"Mother, may I speak?"
Queen Nerith looked at her daughter and nodded. "You may."
As time rewound itself once again, Corey heard these familiar words for the two hundred and eighty third (283rd) time.
"You make all these promises, but it seems you're forgetting that you're just one man. You don't seem to be a king, and you're definitely not the Progenitor of your world so you don't have the right to give our people a place to stay."
These familiar words from Syrelle drifted into his ears as he was recovering from the time reversal he had gone through.
For some reason, he was suffering some sort of mental strain and also a little bit of rejection from Time itself.
Although he wasn't certain, he had a feeling that the reason for this was because he could remember over a dozen previous todays he had experienced, and according to Jeremy, this should not be possible.
'I'm getting really sick of headaches.'
"As for your promise in siding with us in the eventual war against major powers of the universe, it has no value."
'Especially this princess that just can't seem to keep quiet.'
"Sure you might be special. A Tier 3-"
"It's enough. It's enough."
Without waiting for Syrelle to finish saying what he had heard over two hundred times, he cut her off.
Syrelle was taken aback at first, then her gaze became dark when she realized that Corey had truly cut her off.
A Mortal just dared to cut off an Immortal?
The audacity!
Syrelle was about to lash out, but Corey spoke before she could. However, his words were not directed at her, but her mother.
"I know that you have no intention of giving me your knowledge despite my offer and my attempts to convince you, so let's skip all of these"
Corey gestured in a theatrical manner, and then he continued speaking.
"I'm not going to talk about that now. I want to talk about something else."
Queen Nerith raised her brows in curiosity. "And what do you want to talk about?"
Corey was about to speak, but he was interrupted by the opening of the doors to the throne room.
He turned and looked back, and when he saw Jeremy and his companions walk inside the throne room, his eyes lit up with a smile.
"Hahh. And there's my friend, King Jeremy."
Everybody looked at Corey with a strange expression the moment they heard his words. Meanwhile, Jeremy felt a shiver run down his spine when he saw Corey's smile. He could clearly recall Corey's words in the previous today.
He just hoped that the number of times he would have to die would not be so much since he was not a fan of dying.
"Jeremy." Corey said as he placed his arm around Jeremy's neck.
"Ryan." Jeremy replied with a forced smile.
"You two know each other?" Syrelle asked with narrowed eyes and a confused expression.
"Isn't it obvious?" Corey scoffed in response, and Syrelle's gaze became cold.
"You know what, I don't care-"
"So, as I was saying your highness. I have something to say, and it's actually very important."
Queen Nerith was about to reprimand Corey for disrespecting her daughter who was the next in line to the throne, but when she heard his words, she held her words and frowned deeply.
"It better be, or else I'll make sure you sleep in a cell that's not so hospitable."
Corey smiled at the queen's threat, and then he removed his arm from Jeremy's shoulder.
"Your palace has been infiltrated by assassins."
"Impossible!"
"That's just absurd."
"Mother. I think we've listened to enough rubbish from this mortal."
Thalos, Olynthia, and Syrelle all spoke respectively the moment they heard Corey's words. Their expressions was a mixture of anger, disdain, and several other emotions.
Jeremy had a stunned expression, and he nearly had the urge to drag Corey by the collar and ask him what the hell he was doing.
They never agreed to do such a thing, and Jeremy could not help but wonder if Corey was right in the head.
Kiefer, Selene, Willow, Elizabeth, Matias, Rorik, and Caesar all had lost expressions. They looked at one another, hoping for one of them to tell them what the hell was going on?
Why was Corey and his friends here?
Why was their King not surprised by Corey's presence?
And why had the mood of the King changed after they finished exploring a dangerous ruin of the Silver Elves?
Why was he extremely solemn and not celebrating like he was meant to? Almost like he was expecting a war?
They had so many questions, but there was none to answer them.
"As much as I respect your potential and the backing you have, I must tell you that I don't really jokes. Especially jokes that's about our treasured defenses."
Hearing the words of Queen Nerith, Corey could not help but raise his brows in amusement.
"Just take a quick scan of your palace, and try to notice anything odd."
"I don't need to do such a thing. My senses have always been spread across my city. I have sensed nothing odd." Queen Nerith replied with an expressionless face.
"What you're currently doing is spreading a fraction of your perception. You're only able to see the surface layer of what's going on your city. Just search a little bit deeper."
Just like the time where he attempted to convince Queen Nerith for the knowledge of the Silver Elves, he also attempted to convince her to just scan her palace.
It was then that he realized that the queen was a very stubborn individual.
"I'm certain that if there were assassins in my city, I would know. Talk less of my palace, my home."
Corey attempted to speak, but she shut him up with a gesture.
"You're a mortal, and I'm certain you have no idea about the extent of the abilities of an Immortal. If I was at my peak, I could destroy your planet if I so wished."
Corey frowned slightly, and looked at Queen Nerith with an emotionless gaze. This time around, he chose to say nothing.
"Guards. Come and escort these people to their rooms."
The doors opened, and three silver armoured guards entered the throne room. They approached Corey, Pamela, Kiefer, Selene, and Willow.
"Don't try anything funny, and I'm certain we'll have no problems." She said, and then gestured at the guards to escort Corey and the rest.
Corey stared at the queen with an emotionless expression for a few seconds before he turned and started walking to the door.
However, he noticed something, and he was forced to stop. He turned back, and looked at the guard closest to him.
His eyes moved to the guard's eyes, and he saw a tiny red dot at the center of the guard's dirty silver eyes.
A deep frown emerged on his face, and then he asked.
"You're not really a guard are you?"
The moment Corey asked this question, the guard. No. The assassin attacked him.
