Huai Shi looked down at the plane ticket next to Liu DongLi, suddenly coming to his senses from a hangover.
Chai Fei nodded.
"There's something I've never said before," Huai Shi said after a long silence, sighing softly. "I really hate that air she has, as if she has everything under control."
He picked up his glass, downing the juice and ice cubes in one gulp.
He crunched the hard ice cubes and swallowed them.
The glass was gently placed on the coaster, its smooth rim reflecting Huai Shi's pupils.
He said, "I won't."
"TCH." Liu DongLi tilted his head and sighed.
"To be honest, I'm kind of fed up with her presumptuous arrangements and plans, even though I've never had the chance to talk to her about it." Huai Shi raised his eyes, muttering under his breath, "Who does she think she is? She has that aloof look and doesn't even smile at people. She plans everything for others by herself, thinking it's all for their own good. This woman really had a problem from the start, didn't she?"
"..." Liu DongLi opened his mouth to speak but didn't know what to say.
"So, I'm not going."
Huai Shi lifted his eyes to look at them. "I'm going to stay, and moreover, I will go find her, walk right into Luo's net."
"Are you sick?"
Liu DongLi scratched his wig irritably, looking at him as if looking at an idiot. "You, have you gone mad with this Prince act? Do you think you can handle anything?"
"Actually, I haven't handled anything."
Huai Shi answered calmly, "A lot of times, I think I can handle things. But in the end, there's always someone else helping. The things I do impulsively often only make matters worse. I thought I could save Luo Xian, but now she's still lying in the hospital. How could I dare to think I could save Ai Qing?"
"So what exactly are you trying to accomplish? Do you have a death wish?"
"No, I just remembered..."
The young man sighed softly, unable to help but laugh. "I originally wanted to be best friends with her."
Liu DongLi was stunned.
"From the first time I saw her, I told the teacher that I wanted to be friends with her."
Huai Shi bowed his head, chuckling. "Now that I think about it, she was exactly the same as she is now: prouder than everyone else, and more capable than everyone else. She even played the piano better than all of us, kept to herself, never joining in games.
It was only after we became more acquainted that she would occasionally warm up a little. She was just like a wild cat—impossible to deal with. But she was always looking out for me, willing to be with me even after knowing there was something wrong with me."
"Even though there are many things I'm not happy about, I still admire and like Ai Qing very much. She's still willing to be my friend, so I can't leave. And I can't just stand by and watch her be alone here."
Huai Shi said earnestly, "I will go find her, whether she likes it or not."
Liu DongLi asked expressionlessly, "What if someone tries to stop you?"
"Then I'll play it by ear," Huai Shi shrugged. "If possible, it would be great to kill her Grandfather along the way."
Liu DongLi asked, "What if you don't come back?"
"Then I won't go." Huai Shi shrugged. "I'll go home and get some serious sleep. There's everything in dreams... Can't you wish me well for once?"
"I'm just reminding you not to avoid the objective reality," Liu DongLi said coldly. "You need to understand, this time there's no one to help you."
"Please don't talk like that to a seventeen-year-old," Huai Shi replied with a laugh. "Some things just have to be done, come hell or high water, right?"
"Then I wish you a smooth journey on Huangquan Road." Liu DongLi helplessly picked up his glass and downed the wine in one go. Placing money and a tip under the glass, he added, "I should be going. Take care of yourself."
He turned and left.
Meanwhile, Chai Fei observed the two of them, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Rushing into battle for a beauty, eh? Young man, you've got potential."
Huai Shi's eyes brightened. "So, are you willing to help?"
"I won't." Chai Fei shook her head, smiling mischievously. "If you want to play the hero, please do it yourself. Why trouble a weak, powerless office clerk who can still eat? Oh, and can I order another fruit platter?"
"No, you can't, thank you. I can't afford the bill anymore." Huai Shi shook his head with a sigh. "To tell you the truth, I started regretting it right after I said it. Can you call him back for me? I really do want to go see those giant robots."
Chai Fei shrugged, with a look of helplessness.
"Good luck, little brother!" she clasped her hands tightly, cheering Huai Shi on. "I have faith in you!"
Huai Shi pursed his lips, picked up his backpack, and got ready to leave.
"Hitting the road already?" Chai Fei asked in surprise.
"I'm going home to sleep off this hangover!" Huai Shi snapped, pushing the door open and leaving.
The door closed, leaving Chai Fei sitting there alone.
She looked down at the messages scrolling on her phone and after a long while, her smile grew more joyous and proud.
"Ah, I really am Gold's best friend... Hey, waiter! Another serving of chicken nuggets, please!"
Unfortunately, without that cold gaze from her best friend to accompany her meal, something seemed to be missing.
"I really hope nothing goes wrong," she sighed softly.
