Chapter 317: Buddha's Son or Taoist?

Lu Ren squinted his eyes, the blood aura all over his body surged, as if his body was a furnace, even the plants and trees at his feet were slightly scorched, the air around him twisted due to the intense heat.

"Who are you?"

As he spoke, Lu Ren's gaze moved to Guo Muyang. The gray-robed man merely placed a hand on Guo Muyang's shoulder, and Guo Muyang's muscles were in a state of being electrocuted, completely stiff, unable to control his own body.

An extremely exquisite use of power, one could even say it didn't involve any True Qi at all.

The opponent's control over his body's power had reached an inconceivable level, far superior to people like Chen Yi or Chen Tianshou whom Lu Ren had encountered before.

The gray-robed man in front of him had certainly put in a lot of hard work on the Body Martial Path, and Lu Ren could clearly smell the scent emanating from him.

That was the scent of sandalwood, a smell only present in places surrounded by incense for years and years.

Judging by the opponent's attire, he was probably a monastic wanderer from the Buddhist Sect.

Reflecting on this, Lu Ren's expression changed slightly. After all, having stayed on the Beidou Emperor Star for so long, he'd understood from the books Niu Genshan brought back that the Buddhist Sect had long since retreated, even moved away from human settlements, and rebuilt sects in remote wilderness areas.

At least in this Li Luo Realm, there was no trace of the Buddhist Sect left.

Here appeared a monastic wanderer...

The significance of this is immense.

According to historical records, on the Beidou Emperor Star, besides the Li Luo Realm, only the Celestial Dome Realm and the Beidou Realm were human gathering places; other areas were mostly endless forests or demon-infested regions.

The Beidou Emperor Star was simply too vast, encompassing the Three Domains, each of which was many times larger than the entire Earth.

The gray-robed man didn't respond to Lu Ren's question, and his face was slightly excited, staring at Lu Ren continuously, his eyes revealing an expression of excitement as if seeing the light.

"Unexpected, unexpected that in this era, there are people attempting to follow the ancient Buddhist path, even reaching the Bodhisattva Realm and condensing the Bodhisattva Path Fruit!"

Lu Ren said plainly, "Let go of the child beside you."

"Indeed, indeed!!"

The gray-robed man withdrew his hand, and Guo Muyang immediately felt the return of control over her body. She scampered behind Lu Ren.

Guo Muyang whispered, "Should I run a bit further away?"

Lu Ren said, "No need."

There was another sentence Lu Ren didn't say; the strength of this gray-robed man was beyond his imagination.

He's definitely a great master at the Seeking Truth Realm; at least now, the folks in his Inner Realm, most notably Xu Fu, were practically arguing.

This bunch of country bumpkins, having only mingled on Earth for over a hundred years, where would they have the chance to encounter such an unimaginable realm.

It was only because Subodhi once sought ancient Buddha power that he spent some time as a tomb raider, excavated many ancient Immortal God tombs, and even awakened several ancient beings like Chang Xin, who condensed the Human Immortal Path Fruit.

But due to the ravages of time and lack of protective items, several ancient creatures awakened from their coffins merely widened their eyes, looked at Subodhi for a few seconds with a face full of despair, and shouted.

"Heaven has abandoned me!"

Then perished away, turning into a handful of dust.

Subodhi said nothing, staring calmly at the gray-robed man ahead, showing no hint of what was on his mind.

Seeing Lu Ren watching him vigilantly, the gray-robed man rubbed his hands, a bit awkwardly, and said, "I am Xuanzang, a contemporary monastic wanderer of Mani Temple."

Xuanzang glanced away into the distance, then spoke, "I wonder if the Buddha's Son could find another place to chat. There are people from the Shangqing Sect and the Great Ming Royal Family here. If they find us, it would be troublesome."

There was no escaping this encounter.

As for trying to divert disaster, pitting them against each other.

These seasoned and cunning fellows wouldn't fall for it. Lu Ren simply didn't struggle; Xuanzang's attitude was good, following him to take a look shouldn't have any harm.

At least he still had a chance to turn things around.

And seeing how respectful the other party was to him, Lu Ren could not help but be curious as to why the Buddhist Sect on the Beidou Emperor Star, had become like rats scurrying across the street, universally despised.

"Very well then."

Two hours later, a thousand miles from the Taihang Sword Sect, at the foot of the outer mountain of Taihang Mountain, in the wooden hut Guo Muyang had built, the two sat opposite each other.

Guo Muyang sensibly brewed a pot of wild chrysanthemum tea, then went outside to practice her fist technique, recently she could clearly feel that hidden mystical potential within her body. Once she broke through again, her fist technique would enter mastery, and she would become a Martial Path expert.

Xuanzang, cautiously sipping the tea cup, praised, "Good tea."

"..."

Lu Ren had an odd expression. This wild chrysanthemum tea was simply dried chrysanthemums with a hint of medicinal taste, without any true tea flavor. Was Xuanzang being overly flattering?

"Isn't it said that monks don't engage in idle chatter?"

"Idle chatter?"

Xuanzang was slightly taken aback, then realized and smiled, "The Buddha's Son is right, but nothing is absolute in the world. Worldly matters always present themselves in a constantly developing manner, and we must look at everything with both positive and negative perspectives. If we always adhere to old ways and do not accept new things, nor undertake self-reformation, what's left will only be obliteration under the wheels of history."

Oh indeed, a philosopher too.

Lu Ren slightly nodded, "Makes sense."

Pausing for a bit, Lu Ren asked, "Why does Master Xuanzang call me Buddha's Son?"

Xuanzang's expression was somewhat excited, "You possess the aura of Shakyamuni, definitely a disciple of the most orthodox Shakyamuni. I never thought Shakyamuni Buddha would have left a legacy in the world, passed on till now."

Perhaps it's a result of generation gap transmission...

Lu Ren's expression turned more peculiar, though he internally ridiculed, he knew his situation well; his current practice of the Ten Lands True Scripture had been synthesized by the system, encompassing the essence of both Buddhist and Taoist Sects and even more.

If this counted as orthodox Buddhism...

Lu Ren suddenly thought of something; though the main practice of the Ten Lands True Scripture was originally the Ten Lands Great Accomplishment Golden Body Bodhisattva Path, later he craftily got the Real Buddha's True Scripture from Subodhi, the Immortal Skin and Jade Bone from Ji Quanzhen, and the True Martial Emperor Body from Li Changming's hands.

It could be said to have the Real Buddha's True Scripture as the soul, Immortal Skin and Jade Bone as the frame, Ten Lands Great Accomplishment Golden Body Bodhisattva Path as the flesh, and the True Martial Emperor Body as the organs.

If such a mixture still prompted Xuanzang to call him Buddha's Son, if he went to the most orthodox Taoist Sect for practice, those high-achieving true cultivators would also call him Taoist, this indeed is a Taoist.
