"So, what now?" Vega asked softly, her voice carrying a mixture of curiosity and calm as her gaze shifted from Anthony, who now sat in silence once more.
Seeing Vega not pursue the matter of him keeping the truth from her made Anthony's lips curve into a faint smile. One of the reasons he loved Vega so deeply was because of her remarkable quality of understanding. She was not the type to speak recklessly without thought, nor did she allow her emotions to dictate her decisions as so many others did. Unlike most women in relationships who might erupt into accusations, Vega was thoughtful, grounded, and patient.
'I truly won the best woman existence itself has to offer,' he mused inwardly, his heart swelling with quiet gratitude.
"What do you mean by, what now?" Amara asked, her tone curious.
"I mean," Vega replied carefully, "are there any reparations to be made? Like… a rune formation to be drawn, or maybe a soundproof barrier? Perhaps even a pool of blood, say, like a tube of blood or something, that I'd have to plunge myself into?" she asked, her tone calm but tinged with faint amusement.
Both Klaus and Amara stared at her, their expressions caught somewhere between bewilderment and disbelief, as though silently wondering from where she had conjured such strange ideas.
"This isn't some kind of ritual, honey," Klaus said, his voice laced with mild exasperation. "Where did you even hear or see such things? Is it in the military?" He asked the question in a tone that made it sound as though he was already preparing himself to march over to the military and give the League of Supremes a piece of his mind for filling his daughter's head with such nonsense.
"I was only asking," Vega replied lightly, shrugging off their looks. "Don't worry about it if there isn't anything of the sort." She had merely been curious, after all.
Amara gave a soft hum, her golden eyes glimmering. "Well," she began, "you might feel pain during the bloodline awakening. Even if you possess an ability that renders pain null, it might not help in this case. Bloodlines are… truly mysterious, after all."
Vega arched an eyebrow at that revelation, then gave a small nod. Pain didn't concern her in the slightest. If that was all she had to endure in exchange for such an all-round boost, then she would gladly embrace it without hesitation.
Klaus's voice suddenly broke the momentary stillness. "Aren't you disappointed or angry that we couldn't find anything to help increase your chances of awakening a higher-rank bloodline?"
Amara's golden eyes lingered on her daughter, waiting intently for a reply. She wanted to hear Vega's true thoughts. Deep inside, Amara still carried guilt, for it was her own bloodline rank that placed limitations on her daughter.
Vega stared at both her parents for a long while before speaking. She could not perfectly comprehend how they felt, but she could understand enough.
"Is there a reason for me to be angry?" she asked, her voice calm but firm. "You both have given me everything and more, anything that any parents could ever give their child. You indulged nearly all of my whims and needs, and even took me to countless planets for vacations. How many parents on our world can do that, or have even dreamed of doing that for their children? I dare say none."
Her words lingered in the air, sincere and heavy with truth.
"What right do I have to be disappointed?" Vega continued, her voice growing firmer. "There are countless talentless people in this universe who refuse to give up and continue to struggle every single day. And yet everything I possess right now, I have because of you both, without even lifting a finger. And now, a high-rank bloodline falls into my lap, simply because I have turned twenty years of age." She paused briefly, her voice warm and sincere, utterly devoid of deceit.
"If I were to be angry, it would make me the most ungrateful daughter ever birthed since the dawn of existence. Even the Demon Race is not so wicked as that. So, to answer your question, no. I feel neither disappointment nor anger. Rather, I feel only genuine happiness. After all, I know that countless people fantasize and wish every single day just to have even a shred of what I have been blessed with." A soft, radiant smile spread across her lips as she finished.
Her words carried the weight of truth. Which daughter, or child, could rightfully be angry at their parents after being given such a perfect life? Parents who had sacrificed two decades of their very lifespan, solely to make their child happier, stronger, and safer?
Even dogs, even the lowest of the low, would not dare harbor such ingratitude.
Smiles slowly graced the faces of Klaus and Amara as they listened to their daughter's words. Amara, in particular, felt something stir within her veins, a positive feeling coursing through her body like a balm after years of lingering guilt. Vega's words had been exactly what she needed to hear. They soothed the pain of two decades' worth of failure that she had carried silently with Klaus.
If Anthony and Vega had not been present, Amara would have burst into tears of pure happiness and relief.
Though she had lived for over a millennium, though her emotions toward others had dulled and waned beneath the weight of time, her heart still beat with fervor for her daughter, for her husband, for her family.
Every fiber of her willpower strained as she held back the tears that pressed insistently against her eyes. Her heart thundered within her chest, shaken by the flood of emotions.
Beside her, Klaus too wore a gentle smile. Though he, like Amara, held back his tears, he brimmed with pride. Pride that he had raised such a perfect daughter, not the spoiled and arrogant heirs so common among the clans and empires of power, but a true gem of character and heart.
At last, Amara rose from her seat. She walked toward Vega, who remained seated beside Anthony, and lowered herself to her daughter's level. Without hesitation, she wrapped Vega in a warm embrace.
"Thank you," Amara whispered, her voice low but heavy with love, joy, and hope. She lingered there for a few heartbeats before slowly pulling back, rising once more, and returning to her seat beside her husband.
The atmosphere within the room had shifted, the heaviness replaced by warmth, happiness, and love.
It was then that Anthony finally chose to speak, sensing that the moment had ripened into the perfect time. His voice cut through the gentle silence, calm yet carrying weight.
"I might have something," Anthony began carefully, his eyes flicking to Vega, then to her parents. "Something that could help increase Vega's chances of awakening a higher-rank Human Bloodline."
