Ant Lord in the Star Realm

Chapter 187: One Look

Dragon Cypress and Ink Orchid dared not linger any longer. After clarifying matters with Wuye, they decisively withdrew.

They jogged all the way, leaving the range of the Land of Origin Force. Only then did Ink Orchid speak.

"Dragon Cypress, do you intend to help these Barley Bug Warriors deal with the White Poplar Ant King?"

"It's not about helping these Barley Bug Warriors. It's my own decision. I must kill the White Poplar Ant King."

Ink Orchid was momentarily bewildered and confused.

"Why? Is it for the Purple Tung Divine-Given Seed?"

"That's merely an ordinary Wild God-Given Seed with stronger enhancements. Not worth risking so much for you and me."

"The White Poplar Divine Seed? But that's a Life Seed. If the White Poplar Ant King is killed, the Life Seed dies, too."

"That's how it usually goes, but... there are abnormal cases as well..."

"Abnormal cases?"

"I remember telling you before, the five great Flame Spider Roving Merchant Tribes co-manage a forbidden Wild Divine Grade God-Given Seed..."

"Forbidden? You never told me that!"

"Alright then. It's not too late to tell you now."

Dragon Cypress paused, determined the direction, spread his wings, and took to the air, switching to flying speed.

Ink Orchid hurried closely behind, urging, "Hurry and tell me!"

Dragon Cypress: "This Divine Grade God-Given Seed is called the 'One-Glimpse Flower.' It mutated from the Four-Glimpse Flower God-Given Seed. The blossom-fruit cycle is six years; each time, only one flower blooms at the top, yielding one fruit. As for the enhancement effects..."

"You can't even call it an enhancement. It grants an ability, and the bestowed ability is one-off—disappears after a single use."

Ink Orchid pressed on, "What ability?"

Dragon Cypress: "The ability is named 'Heaven Returning Glimpse.' It can force a Life Seed Plant to revert to its primordial seed state."

Ink Orchid: "!!!"

Ink Orchid's mind spun rapidly. "Azure! Azure was turned back into a seed back then!"

Dragon Cypress: "Exactly. Azure was probably struck back into seed form by human civilization, using a similar power."

Ink Orchid: "And the Flame Spider Roving Merchants! They can change their own Life Seed between plant and seed forms at will."

Dragon Cypress: "That's right. It's a similar principle."

Dragon Cypress paused, then continued, "There are quite a few uses. First, if a Life Seed Plant takes fatal damage or faces death from a failed evolution, this ability can save it by returning it to seed form."

"Second use: God-Given Seed needs open space and abundant Origin Force to grow. Some warriors, upon gaining a God-Given Seed, may sow it without careful planning. Upon evolving into Evolution Mountain Lords or Lord-Level, there might be conflicts between their God-Given Seed and other Life Seed Plants. At such times, 'Heaven Returning Glimpse' can revert the God-Given Seed to a seed, letting the user resow it in a better spot."

"Third, if you find a naturally grown, large-scale, valuable Wild God-Given Seed in the wild, you can return it to seed form and make it your own Life Seed."

Ink Orchid: "Forbidden? Is there a fourth use?"

Dragon Cypress spoke calmly, "The fourth: if a warrior with a God-Given Seed dies of old age, their God-Given Seed will also die, but not instantly. If you use 'Heaven Returning Glimpse' in time, you can return it to an unowned seed, allowing another warrior to nurture it in their Life Pouch, making it their own Life Seed."

Dragon Cypress: "And now there's a fifth use—kill a warrior with a God-Given Seed, use 'Heaven Returning Glimpse,' and claim their God-Given Seed as your own."

Ink Orchid fell silent.

The fifth use made any insect uncomfortable, especially those who possessed a God-Given Seed.

Dragon Cypress: "On the Ten-thousand Tribes Continent, there really are tens of thousands of Insect Tribe settlements. But all along, they've basically coexisted peacefully. Even if there's conflict, it's limited to insults, slander, or minor scuffles between Little Warriors—just petty squabbles. Major conflicts hardly ever break out. The reason's simple: everyone here is a clever insect and knows very well that, win or lose, war is never a gain."

Dragon Cypress: "But the appearance of the 'One-Glimpse Flower' has shaken that tranquility somewhat."

Dragon Cypress: "'One-Glimpse Flower' first appeared in the 'Great Cornelian Kingdom,' formed by several Spotted Leaf Beetle Tribes. Spotted Leaf Beetle is a species weak in combat, so they secretly cultivated Beast Clan Warriors and incited them to raid small tribes, looting the God-Given Seeds of their warriors."

Dragon Cypress: "Once or twice, perhaps it could be hidden, but many times, suspicion inevitably arose. The existence of the 'One-Glimpse Flower' was discovered by the Greedy Ground Beetle-formed 'Variegated Leaf Kingdom.' The Variegated Leaf Kingdom dispatched a host of King-Level and Lord-Level Warriors, launching a surprise attack to wipe out the Great Cornelian Kingdom and seize the 'One-Glimpse Flower.' But the affair was too public—news of the One-Glimpse Flower got out. Variegated Leaf Kingdom instantly became everyone's target. No matter what they explained, no insect trusted them. Neighboring kingdoms united to nip the threat in the bud."

Dragon Cypress: "Yet the Variegated Leaf Kingdom was a major state with over ten thousand insect population. On the verge of great war, the many Spider Kings of the five great Flame Spider Tribes mediated. The Variegated Leaf Kingdom surrendered the 'One-Glimpse Flower,' thus avoiding a genocide-level war. After further discussion, everyone felt that, as a Divine Grade God-Given Seed, the 'One-Glimpse Flower' was too precious to destroy. So it was entrusted to the five great Flame Spider Tribes, taken back to the Flame Spider Ancestral Land, and jointly overseen by the stationed five Spider Kings."

Dragon Cypress: "The One-Glimpse Flower blooms once every six years, producing a single One-Glimpse Fruit, which is publicly auctioned once it ripens. All Insect Clan Warriors possessing God-Given Seeds across the continent may apply to bid. When applying, you just need to state your intended use and secure guarantees from at least three Spider Kings. After you win the One-Glimpse Fruit, a Spider King from the Ancestral Land supervises its use."

Dragon Cypress: "Of the five uses I mentioned earlier for the One-Glimpse Fruit, the first four can be relatively easily approved for application."

"Oh——"

This story was truly captivating—the Ten-thousand Nations Continent was indeed fascinating.

Ink Orchid listened with relish and lingering longing. After a moment's reflection, he asked, "Dragon Cypress, so is competition for the One-Glimpse Fruit fierce? Is it expensive?"

Dragon Cypress: "Very expensive. But still within what you and I can manage."

Dragon Cypress: "The information about the One-Glimpse Fruit was something I learned by chance. That time, Melde and another Mountain Lord named 'Hundred Department' were discussing whether there was any evolution level above King-Level..."

Ink Orchid immediately interrupted, "Is there an evolution level above King-Level?"

Dragon Cypress: "Of course! We just don't know the details, and those who do are evasive..."

Dragon Cypress: "Melde and Hundred Department Mountain Lord used the 'One-Glimpse Flower' as indirect evidence. In theory, nearly every Insect King should have at least one God-Given Seed, right? Before dying of old age, every Insect King would want to pass it on to their successor, wouldn't they?"

"An Insect King's life span is a thousand years, a bit more with extension—at most twelve hundred. The One-Glimpse Flower bears fruit every six years; that's two hundred fruits in twelve hundred years, right? On the Ten-thousand Tribes Continent, how many Insect Kings are there among all the kingdoms and tribes? If not a thousand, at least eight hundred, right? Theoretically, every six years, five or six Insect Kings should die of old age, so each One-Glimpse Fruit auction should have five or six Insect Kings competing. Isn't that correct?"

"Moreover, many Insect Kings have more than one God-Given Seed. On average, every One-Glimpse Fruit auction should be highly competitive. In reality, it's just the opposite—there aren't many old Insect Kings using it to pass on their own God-Given Seed."

Ink Orchid: "!!!"

Ink Orchid: "Could it be that some Insect Kings continue evolving and secretly... or is it..."

Dragon Cypress twitched his tentacle and pointed upwards.

Ink Orchid: "Oh——"

This involved the Natural God—one of the truly existent deities, reigning above sun and moon, watching over the Star Realm, holding the fates of all life.

It's best to say little beyond words of reverence.

Ink Orchid changed the subject, asking, "Dragon Cypress, you plan to ask Spider King Spurge or Aconite Spider King to help bid for a One-Glimpse Fruit?"

Dragon Cypress: "Of course!"

Dragon Cypress: "From what the caravan knows, you and I currently have three God-Given Life Seeds and two Wild God-Given Seeds. Just throw out a casual lie—hmm, say the Deep Blue God-Given Seed and Gorgon Fruit Divine-Given Seed both took root in the same reservoir, fought over living space and clashed. I reckon the caravan would be happy to help get a One-Glimpse Fruit for us."

Dragon Cypress declared righteously, "The White Poplar Ant King has brutalized and enslaved Insect Clan Warriors—he deserves death a thousand times. The righteous and brave Dragon Cypress Ant King launching a campaign to take him down is ridding the insects of a menace and saving those poor Barley Bug Warriors. The one at fault is the White Poplar Ant King. The White Poplar Divine Seed is just an unmoving tree—a plant—it's innocent. It's Divine Class, too; destroying it would be a pity. That's why it's so necessary for us to save it."

Ink Orchid: "Makes sense..."

Ink Orchid: "Dragon Cypress, how do you plan to kill the White Poplar Ant King? Strike while he slumbers and is evolving to Evolution King Level? Isn't that too risky?"

Dragon Cypress: "That's the basic idea. You and I needn't consider it before reaching Mountain Lord Level. After that, we can plan carefully. I've never staked my life recklessly."

Dragon Cypress paused, then said, "The White Poplar Ant King committed a fatal mistake. Since he's already slain so many warriors of the Purple Tung Insect Nation, why did he keep two Barley Bug Warriors alive? The sins of the past and seeds of hatred were passed down and spread among the Barley Bug Warriors—that's what gives us our opening."

"With a prepared mind against one unprepared, success is one hundred percent certain."
