The haze clouding Kaiden's mind thinned the moment he saw the movement on the horizon. The confusion, the fragmented rage… gone.
What replaced it was focus. Pure, absolute focus. The demon's head tilted a bit to the side as he stared toward the approaching swarm.
The girls yelped when his massive frame suddenly stirred, no longer standing still and motionless. "Kai?!" Luna blurted abruptly.
What remained of the destroyed house gave out under his weight as he began walking straight toward the incoming horde.
"Wait!" Aria's voice begged as she lunged forward. "Kaiden! Stop! Please!"
"Master, don't!" Bastet shouted in sync. Panic seeped into her tone.
But before either could rush after him, Luna's arm caught Bastet across the chest, and Nyx's hand gripped Aria's wrist. "Let me go!" Bastet and Aria demanded.
The Storm and Space Valkyries exchanged a brief look. They understood each other.
"We must trust our Paragon of Sin," Luna said softly.
Nyx nodded. "Our man knows what he's doing."
Bastet's tail lashed, her ears pinned back. "Of course I trust him! But!"
Aria finished the thought. "I'm so worried my heart's about to stop! Kai is in a vulnerable state of mind right now; he needs to be protected!"
Many onlookers wrinkled their brows as they heard these words. That towering demonic monster… vulnerable?
It felt as if the world itself was vulnerable in his oppressive presence.
Nyx's lips curved into a small, breathy laugh as her eyes lingered on Kaiden's broad, monstrous back. "Then let our eccentric man work his magic…"
The Great Demon of Wrath strode forward, relentless. The air around him pulsed with heat and invisible pressure, the kind that made even seasoned awakened take an involuntary step back.
The horde drew nearer. Dozens became hundreds as demons spilled across the landscape like a tide of living flame and darkness.
But what froze every witness wasn't their number. It was their discipline. The monsters moved in formation, their snarls restrained, their steps unified.
And then, at the forefront, the leader emerged.
A woman - if such a being could be called that - towered above the rest. Her skin was the color of fire, red as if carved from burning stone. Horns arched back from her skull in elegant curves, appearing much smaller and delicate, graceful compared to the giant, threatening horns on Kaiden's head.
Her horns framed a face both regal and cruel. Her golden eyes shone bright, and black armor hugged her body like a second skin. Her presence pressed on the observing humans, feeling oppressive, mighty, and absolute.
Behind her marched the strongest of the horde. These were towering demonic creatures clad in bone and iron, their eyes gleaming with malicious devotion. Even from a glance, it was obvious that they felt protective of the woman walking at the front.
Geralt's jaw tightened as he watched the army advance. A curse came from under his breath.
"That must be the boss monster."
"The boss monster?!" Tessa shouted, eyes wide in disbelief. "That's impossible! The boss should still be inside the dungeon, or at least deep in the wilderness! Our scouts reported no signs of its presence in the outer areas…"
The very idea that such a creature had appeared here, so far away from the boundaries of its domain, shocked her to her very core.
The monsters were freed from their restrictions when the dungeons broke a little over a week ago, yes. But they observed something interesting. Monsters tended to remain close to their dungeons when they did not sense the presence of humans.
In case they did, they would wander farther and farther away from their dungeons in search of human lives to snuff out. But if they did not - such as should be the case in this reservation where wilderness went on forever and ever - the monsters were expected to explore their vicinity and, after finding nothing, remain close to where they seemed to think 'home' was.
It was a rather new finding that stood on flimsy legs, thanks to how new the tragic event was, but as Tessa said, they did scout for signs of the boss monsters. Their artifacts should've alerted them to the presence of such a mighty monster.
The aura it gave off should've made all the artifacts go off.
Then the realization struck her like lightning. Her breath hitched.
"The roar…" she whispered. "She rushed here because of that roar."
The others around her froze. The meaning was obvious. Kaiden's transformation, his demonic challenge, had called out to something greater.
"Kai…" Aria whimpered. If the monster truly heard his roar of challenge and declaration of supremacy, she must've come here to answer his challenge!
Her yandere heart was blazing. She even sent Nyx quite the stinky side-eye as she resumed her struggling. She could not bear watching her man walk calmly toward his demise.
It wasn't that she didn't trust him… She was just overcome with worry and protective instinct. She would much rather be chided for being a clingy girlfriend once the danger was averted than let him make a mistake.
But while the awakened puzzled over the question of whether this was truly the boss monster, the four women of Kaiden didn't need to guess. They could see the truth written in the air, using their connection to the Demonic Pornstar System.
It granted them all quite a useful ability.
Above the red-skinned woman's head floated crimson-colored, brightly glowing text.
<Calypso, the Infernal Matriarch - Level 100>
The numbers alone made Luna's stomach twist. Her power level was absurdly higher than anyone else's here. Not even Geralt was level 100, and monsters tended to have much higher average stats than their human equivalents. Boss monsters… much more so.
And the title, Infernal Matriarch, made her appear as something far beyond a common dungeon lord. It was a title of authority. The demons listened to her every command.
The wild beasts obeyed.
This was a Boss in every sense of the word. A sovereign among monsters.
"She's the boss monster…" Bastet murmured with a worried gaze.
Nyx nodded slowly. Her grip around the felinid's waist trembled as she was overcome with dread. "And he's walking straight toward her."
The others could only watch as Kaiden, still a massive hulk of demonic muscles, continued forward. What made them truly worried was that he appeared to be in some form of a trance.
The Infernal Matriarch stopped. Her burning gaze fixed on him. The lesser demons fanned out around her, growling with utmost threat.
The air between them began to distort from the sheer weight of their combined presence. One, a freshly awakened Great Demon, the other a ruler born of hellfire itself.
Even before a single word was spoken, every soul present could feel it:
Two apex predators had found each other.
As Kaiden's hulking, demon-muscled form reached the edge of her personal guard, a shudder ran through the Infernal Matriarch. Her lips, which had been set in a severe, commanding line, began to tremble.
Then, in a move that shocked every single soul present - the struggling Aria, the fearful women of Kaiden's group, the puzzled awakened, and even the surrounding demons - Calypso's cruel, fiery eyes suddenly turned watery.
The blazing confidence that defined her title was shattered.
With a speed born of instinct, not fear, she dropped. The magnificent, terrifying Infernal Matriarch, Level 100 Boss Monster, sank to her knees in the dust and ash. Her forehead bowed low in an act of absolute, irrevocable submission. The glowing text above her head remained, serving as a bizarre reminder of just who she was.
A string of words escaped her lips, choked with an emotion that sounded terrifyingly like adoration and relief:
"My Lord... I have longed to find a being of your caliber since time immemorial. Please accept me as your most loyal follower."
She dared not lift her gaze to his face. To look into his eyes, she knew, would be an act of both disrespect and a challenge to his newfound dominance. Calypso did not care to think about whether she was stronger or not. She did not even try to measure his power, for it was irrelevant.
What she saw told her more than enough.
Thus, Calypso simply knelt. Her powerful body was reduced to a pleading mess before the sheer, overwhelming presence of the Great Demon of Wrath.
The air hung heavy in the form of a silence that was far more profound than any sound of battle.
The four women of Kaiden's party watched in dumbfounded disbelief. Nyx's grip on Bastet's waist went slack, which in turn saw the tanned felinid faceplant into the ground.
Calypso's eyes opened wide as the shadow of the Great Demon fell fully upon her. He reached her position.
A moment later, she felt something long, hard, and bristly stroke her cheek. It was the tip of Kaiden's massive demonic tail. The touch was an acknowledgment.
Then, with a heavy thud, Kaiden's pants dropped to the ground, freeing his most sacred weapon from its hold.
"My Lord?!" Calypso gasped.
The shock, however, did not last.
A slow, deeply sensual smile of pure, demonic pleasure spread across her face. The watery film in her eyes dried up, replaced by a fierce, loyal intensity. She lifted her chin, letting her gaze finally lock on the Great Demon's formidable anatomy from up close.
She studied his muscles in great detail before she stared into the deep abysses of his red eyes.
"I submit…" she decreed with a tender smile adorning her lips. She reached for the fastenings of her infernal armor, letting the bright plating clatter to the earth around her.
Once her skin was laid bare, Calypso, the Infernal Matriarch, glanced up toward the demon of her dreams, and her long eyelashes fluttered with a mixture of excitement and wonderment. "Claim me as yours…"
Her pitch increased by a good few octaves as her tender smile transformed, turning shy, happy, and wistful all at once.
"Husband~"
