Extra's Path To Demon King

Chapter 336: Energy Arcana

Just like Heinz, Sophia, and Axel. The other three were also dominating the sheer endless number of the undead in their own ways -

Thorian Blackvale, the youngest prince of the Blackvale kingdom, was always ostracised and sidelined, treated as if he never existed, for not showing any exceptional talent. That abandoned seed had finally begun to grow and reveal a sliver of its true potential. Thorian, having had a tough childhood and grown up quickly, matured far too early, a common occurrence among the Blackvale Kings' children.

Each child developed distinct personalities, or quirks, good or bad. They would be left to their devices. No one would care about them in general unless they demonstrated their worth, qualities that could be useful. To be valuable to the kingdom. However, even then, those who would prove useful would only be used as tools.

Something that Thorian understood far too early in his childhood, he developed himself into a logical and analytical individual, possessing an extremely keen intuition. But in truth, it was not intuition but calculation and probability working on a subconscious level at incredible speed, a lover of math, in simple terms.

A perfect trait of personality for someone who was a mage branch specialist, both of his aspects being Arcanist and Spellcaster, primary and secondary aspects accordingly. The spellcaster aspect, in particular, was like a gun that was pre-loaded with bullets ready to fire, but not quite helpful for his current situation.

To explain a bit more, the bullet here was pre-encoded magic spells, in a specific number of slots which his spellcaster aspect had, ready to activate just by the use of mana. These magic attacks are instantaneous and endless. But specific types of magic will only work on a particular kind of subject. So, he naturally had no spells pre-encoded that could be deadly for the undead.

So, he was using his Arcanist aspect at the moment, an aspect that aligned almost too well with his subconscious, super-calculative, and logical mind. In truth, the arcanist aspect holders were like scientists, but they wielded magic. They experimented, analyzed, and methodically researched, discovering the truths of nature, its workings, and reality as a whole.

It was an aspect exactly opposite to the spellcaster; the latter was something in which you had to pre-encode spells into specific number slots, several magic spells that you could spam endlessly as long as you have mana to cast the magic and stamina to withstand the endless use of magic.

But for the arcanist aspect, you can research in the midst of battle, think critically, and after knowing enough, you can, on the fly, create spells, methods, or constructs that could directly counter someone or something.

Of course, among those who are talented on the path of magic, most of them would receive the same Arcanist aspects, but even if two people have one or maybe both aspects the same as each other. The two individuals would develop their paths quite differently, much as many students choose to study math. However, there were endless types of math, and each student could excel in different areas.

Specifically, if one did well enough in the trial, they would receive a title or attribute that would make their path very unique and powerful, even among those who have the same aspect. So, Thorian also had an exceptional talent. Everyone who has the Arcane aspect has the attribute Arcane Magic. But Thorian did not receive a title, but another special skill within the Arcane Magic attribute. Which was Energy Arcana.

A special skill that allowed him to alter his energy and imbue it with a special property that could counter other types of magic or abilities, or a unique kind of energy. As long as he had enough understanding of it, he could alter the properties of his energy, by extension, alter his arcane magic, to add the fundamental countering effect to something specific.

That's precisely what was happening; till now, he was dancing around a sea of bones, maintaining himself on a higher ground, stomping all over the skeletons' heads or shoulders. He was studying the death energy, which seemed to be corroding the very life force of the living, as he finally understood its core operating principles well enough.

He began to create multiple streams of mana, each with subtly different colors, even different elements. Like a proper researcher, he began to use each of the other energies on the endless sea of undead, combining them with various types of magic or attacks until he had identified some patterns and methods he deemed most effective against the deadly death energy.

Of course, the counters he could produce remained much weaker compared to the blue lightning of Axel. He was using the purest form of lightning from the pseudo-rune lightning imbued in his rune sword. The power and potency of it likely surpassed even the power of someone who had the highest affinity with the lightning element. The destructive lightning power was a sufficiently potent counter to the evil death energy.

As for the valkyrie, there was no need even to say anything about her. The more he saw her colossal battle prowess, the more he began to doubt if she was human. That all-encompassing darkness that she wielded like the very extension of her being could even devour that evil energy like it was nothing. She looked more like a Grim Reaper who kills other Grim Reapers for a living. Those red eyes, which he couldn't even look at. She was a murderer through and through.

How could she be the future savior of humanity? If someone told him that she was instead the destined doom of it, he would find it much easier to believe.

As he finally found the most optimal method to counter the undead, he himself was surprised by it. It was sound-based magical attacks. And an extremely low frequency of sound-based attacks. In truth, all of these skeleton undead were like puppets, imbued with straightforward commands. A connection between the death knight and the ethereal cores of every single skeleton existed.

Some abstract connection through necromantic magic. Which can be affected by a very low frequency of magic-based attacks. That frequency was too low for normal human minds to hear, but as peak first-phase Seekers, they could indeed listen to it to some extent.
