Sophia commanded all four of them by name and instructed them to follow her command, as Axel had already disappeared and had told her that he would need to retrieve it, a trump card of his that could finally help them win the whole battle. In the meantime, Axel requested that she take charge and keep the Bone golems at bay for as long as possible, ensuring the largest number of students would survive. So, from now on, it would be a battle of attrition.
The five of them fell backwards, running over the shoulders of giant bone golems, when a massive line of bone golems separated them from joining in with the students on the back. Sophia used her darkness and shaped it into a large rope with multiple threads at its end. Using that as a slingshot, she threw the four of them over the wall of bone golems.
After which, she carved a path of her own, killing through the bone golems. The most significant number of students on the back were already in a terrible state, more than 200 of the students were already killed, and they were also desperately trying to join in with the strongest ones fighting at the front. They all had deeply regretted not joining with Axel the moment he had started rushing towards the enemy.
But now, seeing Valkyrie and the other four of the strongest students joining alongside them. The relief they felt was beyond anything. But the chilling killing intent of the valkyrie pressed onto the last remaining of the 900 students like a mountain. Making them feel a primal terror that no amount of undead could make them feel.
Sophia's cold voice resounded in all of their ears, "From now on, all of you will follow my orders and fight in the way I command you to. If I tell you to cut, you cut. If I ask you to defend, you defend. If I command you to die, you die. If I command you to live, you live. Even if you have every limb severed from your body."
All the remaining ones could only nod obediently, though her tone wasn't very encouraging, but they all had no choice but to place all of their hopes on the valkyrie now. They believed that the incomparably powerful valkyrie would definitely lead them to victory. At least, it was better to be led by her than to fight with the confirmation of your death already set in stone, which was the situation for them all just moments ago.
Sophia's cold voice boomed loudly again, "We will hold off all the bone golems for 3 minutes. In that time, consume all the healing medicines or potions necessary, and get back in your peak shape. Then we will fight defensively. A drawn-out battle of attrition."
Some of them wanted to ask why we would be doing such a thing, after all, the undead all had endless stamina. They would never be tired or even out of energy after all, they were but mere puppets now. Already dead, but being forcefully kept alive. How could a bunch of humans, so low in number compared to the enemies, manage to stand in a battle of attrition against the very species that had unlimited stamina?
They could only surmise that she had a plan, or maybe there was another, more believable reason. Perhaps the principle would come to their rescue, after he had won his part of the battle. That is what the valkyrie must be waiting for, they all thought. As Sophia, Heinz, Jaden, Enrick, and Thorian all took charge of that front of battle, they struggled greatly but managed to hold off the enormous number of large undead golems for that brief period of time.
A few minutes that was enough for the 900+ students to consume various types of powerful, life-saving medicines of their own. That brought them back to their peak, filled with energy and stamina, and healed from all their physical injuries and mental exhaustion. With the renewed determination, they jumped back on the battlefield.
The other four, except for Sophia, took charge of a large number of students each, dividing them into multiple units and making it easier to command by establishing a kind of hierarchical structure. This approach made the army easier to command and control as a whole.
Sophia passed down instructions to the other four. Through the mental communication artifact they were wearing. Then those four passed down the necessary instructions to the students under their direct command.
In this scenario, Sophia was the leading commander. Heinz, Jaden, Enrick, and Thorian were all squadron leaders who commanded 220-230 students each; those at the bottom of the command structure were all squadron members or normal soldiers in this case.
The regular soldiers were all instructed to use shield-type artifacts in one hand and hold a sword, spear, or any other attack-type artifact in the other hand. So, another round of the battle started. This time, over 900 students came together as one coordinated army, under the command of the valkyrie, led strategically. This time, they were on the defensive side, preserving the stamina of everyone altogether and fighting against the more than 700 bone golems.
Yes, compared to the previous endless onslaught of the more than 11,000 undead. The numbers were even less than a 10 times deficit. But each of the bone golems was far stronger than even 50 undead working together as one.
Sophia could only grit her teeth in frustration and wait for Axel, because she did not like this manner of fighting when she had to retreat and command the army behind her, protecting the students, instead of going all out and focusing on killing her enemies.
***
High in the sky, a resounding, flesh-piercing sound echoed. Turning the heads of the traitors who were fighting against the clones of the principals.
Squelch….
The sword being wielded by the expert forger, Gareth, had pierced right through the heart of the weapon combat classes professor, Fenris, who coughed up an unhealthy amount of blood, looking at the hole in his chest with disbelief. He gave a look of immense hatred towards Gareth, but the latter merely pulled out the sword, and more blood started to rush out from the hole in his body.
With another powerful horizontal slash from Gareth, the head of the powerful initial 4th phase seeker separated from his body. His head and body both fell from high in the sky. Landing on top of a bone golem, splattering the blood and internal organs all over the body of the poor, clueless bone golem, painting it red.
Gareth felt a profound change start to occur inside of him as he finally met the requirements to ascend to the 4th phase, after being stuck on the peak of the 3rd phase for a very long time. He embraced the massive increase in power coming from within and elevated his being into something far superior.
The remaining traitors watched on, their faces expressing disgust. The game tilted even further against them. It wasn't that Fenris did not have any powerful trump cards on his part. However, the concerning thing was that all those turned out to be useless, or less than optimal against Gareth, even though Gareth was a whole central stage weaker in power compared to Fenris.
The clones of the principal showed a subtle smile at their disciple's breakthrough. Selwyn, Darwin, Regina, and Alfred all tried to attack Gareth in the midst of his breakthrough. However, the clones prevented such a thing from happening. Then, as Gareth finally felt his newly acquired strength solidify. He charged into the other battles. Starting to eliminate the other traitors with brutal efficiency. Not a single trace of mercy in his blade. No matter how much they pleaded in their final moments.
