I Am The Only Witch Hunter

Chapter 168: Silver Tongue

"That amateur!" The Kid said. "I knew we should have killed him."

"Dunn Longar? He must have planned this all along."

Casper and Buster rode tirelessly, trying to shake off the riders. But it was not easy to do so.

This Sandy Road was accompanied by bald hills and deserts. There was absolutely no coverage for either of them to hide from the chaser's sight.

Soon, their horses would get tired and they would be caught.

Casper looked over to Buster. They shared a knowing gaze. They both knew that it was the end of the line for them.

"Do you have any brilliant plan to escape this time, Buster?"

Buster Cass shared a sad smile. "The nearest river is half a day away. The nearest woods are two days away. Sand is all around us.

We're fucked, Henry."

The Casper Kid let out a long loud laugh. It was a long time since Buster used his true name.

"I'm not planning on spending my last hours running, Roland. I'm going to fight them. You with me?"

Buster's eyes darted around, trying to think of a way out before answering.

The Casper Kid's real name was Henry Alvaro Lichtenfield.

Buster's real name was Roland Louis Graves.

They were both borned into Noble Clans. Their clans were minor, not the Great High Noble Clans like the Costeau of Ashe or the Starcrow of Lyara.

Until now, they still had their nobility but both had refused their lineage when they got the first chance to leave their houses.

They weren't witches nor do they agree with what the witches do to humans. They had first hand experience and a peek behind the curtain of Eldoria.

They knew that commoners and even citizens were nothing more than pigs and dogs ready to be slaughtered for the witches. The nobles kept their mouths shut to retain their wealth and influence.

Henry and Roland weren't like that. They despised the witches and they found each other, another with the same story as them.

So they had partnered up and gone on the road together. Their little 'heists' from all these years were all that they could do to fight back the witches.

They robbed from nobles and high nobles and spread the coins to those who needed it.

They weren't saints, obviously. They admitted that wholeheartedly. They kept some of the coins to have a free life, drinking beers and fucking whores. Most importantly, to see the world with their friends and brothers.

But at the end of the day, they were simply two humans knocking around toys of the rulers. Sooner or later, they would be caught.

That day was today.

Henry dodged an arrow from behind.

"Fuck!" But Roland wasn't that lucky. An arrow hit him at the shoulder and propelled him off the horse.

Henry stopped his horse immediately and jumped down. He grabbed Roland and dragged him behind a large boulder to hide from the arrows.

Roland breathed heavily. He couldn't think of anything.

"It's the end of the line for us, Henry. I guess I will join you in this fight."

Roland grabbed his sword. Luckily the arrow shot his left shoulder so he could still swing the sword. But both of them knew that Roland wasn't going to put up much of a fight.

Henry laughed and patted Roland's shoulder. "I have dreamed of fighting alongside you many times, brother. But you always ran away."

"I do not have any talents in fighting, brother. You should know that."

"And I was also a stupid bastard that didn't even know how to count properly. But you taught me how to cheat in cards, Roland."

Roland smiled. "You're right. I was scared actually. Fighting makes my nerves tremble. I should have learned from you. We might even have a fighting chance if I did."

"Don't say something like that, brother. It isn't your fault."

Henry pulled Rolan to stand up. They're both getting ready for their last match.

The riders caught up to them. Dunn raised his hand and ordered the guards to stay back. He jumped down from his horse and approached the boulder at which the pair of bandits were hiding.

"Not running any more, rats?" Dunn's voice was sarcastic.

Roland popped his head out of the boulder. "Dunn, my friend. What with all the hostility? We can talk this out."

"I am no friend of yours, rat!" Dunn shouted. "How dare you cheat me of my coins!"

"Hey. Hey. It's alright, you know. I understand. So let us give you back the silvers as a token of apology. How's that?"

Dunn grinned from ear to ear. "Apology? And what next? You want me to let you go?"

"If you can do that, I will be very appreciative."

"Keep dreaming, rat. Guard!"

As Dunn shouted, the riders jumped down from their horses and drew their blades.

"Wait!" Roland shouted. "Kill us now and what do you get?

Nothing. Me and the Casper Kid have robbed many caravans, breaking into many banks. We have hundreds of gold coins stacked in a secret cave in the woods.

Let us go and you shall have the best fortune of your lives!"

The riders looked at each other, seemingly considering Roland's offer.

"Remember, sellwords." Dunn said. "I hired you. If you think you can betray our contract, just be prepared to spend the rest of your lives being slaves in a quarry."

"Sorry, boys." A rider said. "The client is right. We can't betray our contract."

Roland changed his target and pointed at Dunn. "You! Do you even know who we are?"

Dunn grinned, "who are you then?"

"I am Roland Louis Graves, first son of Louis Percy Graves, the rightful heir of Clan Graves. The Casper Kid's real name is Henry Alvaro Lichtenfield, second son of Alvaro Nicholas Lichtenfield.

We are nobles of the Eldoria Kingdom. Our lives are protected by the Royal Court and any one who dared to kill us without a trial shall be hunted by all the clans of Eldoria.

You want to kill us? Then bring us to the Royal Court."

Dunn let out a sharp snickered laugh. "Are you making me a fool? Why don't I just kill you here? No one will know a thing!"

"Humans won't know. But you think witches can't? They have the magic to see the past, present and future. Kill me and Lord Henry here and you shall know the true wrath of our High Lords and Ladies!"

Dunn's hand clenched tight. His brow furrowed. "Fuck those witches… They might actually be able to find out."

Roland actually didn't know if witches could even do that, he had made it up.

Roland saw the hesitation in Dunn's eyes, he continued. "As a noble in Eldoria, I and Lord Henry have the right to atone for our crimes with golds and silvers. Bring us to a trial and we simply bribe them.

You will get nothing. Nothing at all. So… As I was saying, me and Henry have a cave of golds that we can share with you.

We'll give you that as an apology. You let us go and we forget about what happened today."

"Why do you give me the coins? Can't you just buy your way out of a trial then?"

Roland rolled his eyes. "Coins can only buy your life back. Even after giving the Royal Court the coin, I and Lord Henry still have to stay in prison for a few years. We don't want that."

Dunn considered the offer carefully. He looked around and saw that the riders had lowered their swords. They were all afraid when witches were mentioned. They didn't care if it was the truth or not, they didn't dare to test the Royal Court.

Dunn let out a long sigh. He knew that he had lost control of the riders. At best they would bring the two to the court and wouldn't kill them.

"Fine. But you must lead us to the cave first."

"Certainly!"

Roland turned back to Henry and showed him a thumbs up.

"Holy! You have a dangerous mouth, Roland." Henry whispered to his partner.

"I propose a different deal." Another player had entered the game.
