Henry grinned. "No survivor! No witness!"
A rider tried to run away. Siderius rested the back of his blade on the forearm of his draw hand while pulling an arrow out of the quiver. His ring and little finger held the pommel of Blazing Soul and kept it in place, preventing it from sliding off. His thumb, middle and index finger were used to grab the arrow.
His left hand raised the bow up high.
He was dual-wielding the bow and sword at the same time and was able to switch between the two flawlessly.
Roland was able to spot this in the midst of night. It fascinated him to the core. "You can do that?"
A high-pitched shriek screamed as the arrow split the air and landed nicely at the back of the rider's neck.
Siderius then nudged his right elbow upward, flipping the blade to the front and holding it naturally in the usual grip. He switched from the arrow to the blade in a blink of an eye and without any unnecessary gesture.
Everything flowed together nicely.
Henry slashed his curved blade over the face of a rider. Blood gushed out on Henry's clothes. The rider screamed in pain and dropped down. But that didn't kill him.
Henry plunged the tip of the sword down the rider's throat, ending his life.
The Casper Kid then looked over his shoulder to see three riders surrounded Siderius.
The vengeful hunter did a spin with his sword. The Blazing Soul whirled in the air, aiming to hit the three riders at their heads.
The first one raised his sword to deflect Siderius' blade. Their Weak Steel broke immediately as Blazing Soul slammed onto their skull and broke it.
The second rider felt the utmost danger in his heart. Instead of using the fragile blade, he raised both his arms to brace for the impact.
Blazing Soul broke the blade again and slammed onto the rider's arms, sending him crashing onto his ally behind. The two riders were pushed into the air then rolling a few times on the ground.
The second rider groaned deeply as the bones in his two hands had become bits and pieces. Siderius approached the man and slammed the tip into his skull.
The tip of Blazing Soul wasn't sharp enough to cut into the skull. But its sheer force and durability broke through the bone and crushed the brain inside into porridge.
The last rider scattered backward on his butts.
"Please! Please don't kill me! I won't tell anyone!"
Siderius shook his head. "I don't want to kill you. But you should know that I can't let you live."
"NO! DON'T KILL ME!"
The rider got on his feet and turned his back away. He was able to run for a few steps before three arrows plunged into his back.
The rider fell down to the ground. Blood leaked out and soaked his clothes.
"Holy shit..." Henry looked around to see the bodies laying on the sand. He was able to kill three or four of them.
There were a total of twenty riders. Dunn Longar wasn't included.
Siderius killed seventeen men on his own. The thought of it made all the hair on Henry's body stand up.
"I had a feeling when I first met you that you were dangerous, Siderius. But this is much more than I can imagine." Henry sheathed his sword and wiped the blood off his face.
Siderius laughed. "And I knew you were one capable warrior as well, Kid."
"Please. My real name is Henry. You can call me Henry."
"And my real name is Roland. Pleasure to finally meet you." Roland ran out from behind the boulder.
"Henry, Roland." Siderius nodded to the two of them. "I am here to offer you a job."
"What kind of job?" Roland said.
"Before that." Henry cut in. "Did they tell the truth? You really are a witch?"
Siderius smiled gently. "Do I look like a witch?"
Henry shook his head. "You don't. But not all magic comes to the surface. I have seen many witches that look nothing out of ordinary."
"I can guarantee you. I am no witch. But I do have other forms of power. You will hear people call me White Witch because they thought my power is magic.
I obliged them and didn't refuse. It is better for them to misunderstand than to know what I truly am."
"What are you, truly?" Roland said.
"I told you already. I am a witch hunter. That isn't a joke."
"Witch hunter..." Henry and Roland contemplated the title.
Then Siderius continued. "As I was saying. I came to look for you guys because I need men. Smart and capable men to help me maintain Santa Roberto."
"Santa Roberto? That lonely monastery in the Rottin Woods? It might not be a great place but it is very big with a lot of structures inside. How did you get your hands on it?" Roland asked.
"I killed the phantom that haunted Scalize. The Baron there rewarded me with the place. He also thinks that I am a witch."
"Why me? Why him?" Roland pointed to the two of them.
"You're smart, Roland. Without me, you would have talked your way out of it. And Roland is an experienced warrior with a lot of potential. With the right 'tools', you two can become so much more. You can become something like me."
"You mean..."
"That's right, Roland. Being a witch hunter is not a bloodline nor a privilege. It is a path you can take. And you too can become a witch hunter, Roland.
You and Henry, continue the journey that you have made for yourselves. However, this time, you can do so much more than robbing coins from witches."
Henry clenched his fist. He looked to the heads that were still hanging on the horses of the riders. They were his allies, the people with the same ideals as him and Roland. But they were killed mercilessly.
Dunn might not be a witch but he worked for the Ivitsio Bank. The bank was there to preserve the benefits of the witches. In Henry's eyes, they were all the same.
"Can we have time to think about this?" Henry said.
Siderius nodded. "It is a must that we lay your friends to rest. Their souls need to cross to the afterlife. Let me help you as well."
"Much appreciated, Siderius." Henry said.
The three of them collected the heads of the bandits. Then they returned to the temporary campsite of the bandits. Most of them were slaughtered in a surprise attack.
Their headless bodies scattered on the ground. Siderius and the pair buried them. The vengeful hunter hummed the Dead Rite for each of them to make sure they could crossover safely.
Henry and Rolan lowered their head while Siderius stood in the front and recited the Dead Rite:
"By earth below and sky above,
I shall grant peace and rest thereof.
No shadow's pull, no chain of night,
Can steal this soul from holy light."
