I Am The Only Witch Hunter

Chapter 274: The Dawn

The sun appeared in the far East. The first beam of sunlight pierced through the veil of darkness.

Milla's body was still burning because of the Phosphorus. But she was already dead.

Siderius pulled the sword out of her chest and stepped back. Some of the Phosphorus got on his boots but he quickly isolated them with water then wiped them off.

Xonder died. For real this time. His body fell to the ground with his hand still reaching for Milla.

Xonder wasn't exactly a lesser vampire. He was a minion. An ancient servant of the vampire that Siderius rarely encountered. Even in his long 200 years of life, he rarely saw a true vampire minion.

Minions could survive under the sun because they weren't a vampire. They only borrowed power from their master. They had fangs and could also drink blood. Their strength and speed were enhanced.

Most importantly, they wouldn't die if their master was still alive. But if their master died, they would die as well. That is the connection between a vampire and a minion.

The situation between Xonder and Milla was more complicated than that. They were father and daughter. He did his best to keep his daughter alive and she gave him the power of the minion. They truly depended on each other to survive.

Siderius sheathed his sword. The flame extinguished because of the tightly sealed scabbard.

The people of Pannitha slowly entered the muddy road. They all stared at the scene. The burning corpse of a little girl. The body of the father. And the white hunter with his mask.

Siderius approached Xeros. The Priest jerked back in fear but he quickly realized Siderius was only offering him a hand to stand up.

Priest Xeros grabbed Siderius' hand hesitantly.

"What happened? Why aren't you in the church?" Siderius said.

Xeros sighed deeply and told Siderius about Xarles.

"I see. Such a thing can't be anticipated. Where is Rea?"

"She jumped out the window right as Xonder approached. I don't know where she is though. But she should be fine."

Just as Xeros finished his sentence. Rea emerged from within a home. She ran at Siderius.

"Are you alright, my lord?" Rea said.

"I am fine, Rea. You?"

"I have only a few cuts because of the window glass. Other than that, I am perfectly healthy." Rea smiled brightly.

Siderius observed the cuts on her forearms. It was more than a few cuts. But she hung on very well.

Siderius nodded. "It's good that you're fine."

The hunter then turned to Xeros. "It is your turn now."

Xeros shrunk back in fear. His lips trembled. "What... What do you mean?"

"This." Siderius pointed to the mess around. "Xarles died. There needs to be someone that take charge of Pannitha. There is no one else that can take this position other than you."

"I..."

Xeros looked over the area and saw the concerning expressions of the people of Pannitha. He realized that Siderius was right. Without him, this place would crumble.

Xeros took a deep breath. "I understand."

Siderius waved at a few townsmen. "Hey! Come here and help me bring the corpse of the monster to the morgue."

The townsmen looked at each other. They were wary of him but they couldn't refuse. Milla's and Xonder's corpses were then transferred to the morgue.

Siderius carefully instructed the townsmen to restrain the corpses tightly and not mess with them. Siderius wanted those vampire's eyes for himself.

Xeros took charge and temporarily became the new Bailiff for Pannitha. He commanded the people to collect the bodies of the dead and buried them in the graveyard.

Siderius led Rea to one of the back rooms of the church and treated her wounds.

"Take your shirt off." He said.

Rea blinked her eyes a few times. She had dreamed about this day for many times but when it actually happened, Rea felt a little bit shy.

She carefully removed her shirt and covered her chest. She looked aways because of embarrassment.

Siderius chuckled. "I remember that you wanted to 'service' me the first time and second time we met. Why be embarrassed now?"

"It's different, my lord." Rea whispered.

The first time Rea wanted to test him for Lord Arist. The second time she really wanted to have some fun. But now that they spent more time on the road, she knew what kind of man Siderius really was and they grew more familiar with each other.

This made the situation extremely bizarre from her point of view.

"Let your hands go. I need to treat your hands. All those cuts would be infected if we let them like that."

"Right..." Rea slowly let go. Her upper body was entirely exposed to Siderius.

He was still indifferent as ever. No amount of emotions were shown.

He disinfected Rea's arms with a mixture of herbs and alcohol. Then he wrapped her hand with fresh white bandages.

"Remember to change these twice a day." Siderius said. He tenderly treated her wounds. A sign of softness that Rea had never seen him had before. Another side that was hidden away from the world.

"I understand, my lord." Rea nodded.

"You can put your shirt back on now."

Rea nodded.

Siderius collected everything and walked to the door. "Rest. We will be back on the road tomorrow. The road will be harsh because of your wounds."

"Yes, my lord." Rea bowed deeply. When she lifted her head up, he was already gone.

Siderius entered the morgue at noon. All the corpses inside were moved to the graveyard for burying. The only two left were Xonder and Milla.

Siderius approached Milla's corpse. He cut away her eyelids to reveal the two perfect pairs of red eyes inside.

Fortunately, his attacks and the Phosphorus didn't damage her eyeballs. He deliberately tried to avoid them in the battle.

"The eyes of a vampire can influence other beings. It is a form of hypnotism. This was why no one remembered Milla and Xonder came to their house at night.

The eyes can convince people, making them do what they usually won't, even erasing their memory or adjusting it. The degree of this power depends on the power of the vampire.

Milla couldn't control the minds of Pannitha's townsmen but she could perfectly erase their memories.

I wonder what I can do with this pair of eyes?"

Siderius took out his hunter knife and extracted the eyes.
