I Am The Only Witch Hunter

Chapter 281: Bat of the Cave

As the flaming sword came crashing down upon the bat, it wasn't able to do anything in response. The reason? Its mind was flooded by the effect of Esturo, a disorienting mental spell that caused its body to convulse uncontrollably.

The flaming sword smacked on one of its wings. Siderius intended to neutralize its ability to fly. But the Dull Steel Blade in his hands was not enough to slice through its flesh, even with the assistance of the flame from Sulfur.

The Chaos Bat quickly overpowered the effect of Esturo and got up on its feet. It opened its mouth and let out a small sound wave toward Siderius.

Siderius stumbled backwards, one hand covering his ear. His nose bled out crimson blood.

"Sonic attack?" Siderius grabbed a Toxic Bomb and threw it on the ground. The green smoke took over the dark space.

Bat was a creature of the night. They could see in the dark no problem. So even with Night Vision, Siderius wasn't that much more advantageous than it.

However, with the thick layer of green cloud, he now was.

The thick cloud blocked the bat's vision, hiding Siderius' presence. Siderius could still see the bat because of his blood vision. He sheathed his sword, extinguishing the flame, and drew it out again. Now he would use it as a mace to smack the bat to death.

The creature was smarter than Siderius gave it credit for. It expanded its black bat wings and took flight, getting out of the green smoke.

Siderius stayed inside the smoke to hide himself. He didn't use his other bombs because it would cause harm to the bat's ears. He wanted to preserve it entirely.

Therefore, for this fight, he could only grind the creature down slowly with his sword. He drew another <Esturo> in the air, making the bat drop down from the air.

It had become accustomed to this ability for a short amount of time. The bat rolled in mid-air. It shook off the disorienting effect in its mind. Siderius used the sling to hurl an ordinary rock at it.

The solid rock smacked on the beast's stomach, causing it to growl in pain. But it still hadn't dropped down. It regained its height and flew around the cave. It landed at a hanging stone spike on the ceiling.

Siderius sheathed his sword and grabbed his bow.

"A ranged fight then."

The Chaos Bat growled loudly. It produced a transparent shockwave that hit the surrounding hanging stone spikes. The spikes detached themselves from the ceiling and fell down to the lay of smoke beneath.

Siderius took off and got out of the affected area. The spikes plunged deeply in the ground. If the hunter was still there, he would have been pierced to death.

Siderius grabbed ten arrows and bombarded them at once toward the Chaos Bat's position. It heard the screeching sound of the arrow and immediately jumped off the evade.

The arrow formed a circle around it. No matter where it dodged, it would get hit. A few arrows went through the soft membrane of its wings, causing it to fall to the ground.

"I can't cut its wings down. But I can tear that off!"

Siderius drew another Esturo in the air, temporarily stunning the bat so that he could get close. He lunged at it again while drawing his sword. Siderius didn't try to cut the wings off but instead punctured a large hole in the soft membranes of its wings.

It worked immediately. A hole was carved out.

The bat hissed at him and opened its mouth wide. Its teeth were as sharp as arrow tips. All of them. Unlike the vampire that only had two sharp fangs.

Siderius clenched his fist and punched its white teeth. All of them broke into pieces. The bat's head snapped backwards.

It screamed at Siderius but he effortlessly dodged the soundwave. His speed was that of a cat, not a human. He grabbed the neck of the bat and banged it repeatedly with the pommel of his sword.

"Come on! Die, you cave dweller!"

The Bat resisted valiantly. A crisp crack echoed as its neck bone was crushed into pieces.

Siderius let go. The gigantic bat fell to the ground lifelessly.

He let out a relief breath. "Not too hard. You are still easy to deal with."

The hunter took out his sharp butchering knife and immediately cut the ear of the bat off. He then continued to dissect the bat right at where it had died to look for anything valuable.

"These wings… They are actually very valuable. I'll probably be able to make a gargoyle out of these wings… Santa Roberto doesn't have a protector yet."

Siderius checked the bat's entire bodies. Except for the wings and its ears, he didn't find anything too useful about it. He threw a bottle of slagpaste on it and set it on fire.

"Depart in peace." Siderius said.

Then he left the cave.

When he went outside, the sky was already dark. Rea had set up a camp near the cave entrance and got ready for his return.

Siderius's nose twitched as he caught a delicious scent.

"You cooked something?"

"Yes, my lord. Why don't you try some?"

"Don't mind if I do."

The hunter dropped the giant wings on the ground near the campfire. Rea glanced toward it.

"Did everything go well, my lord?"

Siderius nodded as he sat down. "For the most part. It has some tricks up its sleeves but nothing too difficult for me to handle."

Rea scooped out the soup to a wooden bowl for Siderius and handed it to him.

"You know. Ashe is a very good cook. She used to cook for me a lot. You should try her food out once you have the chance."

"Of course, my lord."

They spent the peaceful evening chatting about random things. Mostly about the Chaos Beast that Siderius just killed. Once dinner was over, Siderius told Rea to sleep first as he had work to do.

Rea didn't object and went into her tent.

Siderius grabbed the bat ears. Those large spiky ears with purple color.

Sonara was slightly different from Ocula. A witch hunter couldn't take out his own eyes to graft the mutation. That would damage his nerves and cause many problems. The ears were different.

To begin the process of grafting the ear, the first the witch hunter needed to do was to cut out his own ears.

Siderius grabbed the hunter knife tightly.
