The Magnificent Son-in-law

Chapter 515: Fighting to Be Cannon Fodder

Want to live?

This question seems somewhat redundant.

Because if these people were truly seeking death, they wouldn't have been so desperately yelling for help earlier.

The young man lying motionless at the bottom of the pit responded decisively: "I'm Meng Lang, considered the deputy among these people. If you can save us from here, we're willing to lead the way ahead."

"Not bad, you've got the hang of it." Xiao Feng said with a satisfied smile.

In Xiao Feng's eyes, these people were no different from the traitors during the resistance period; their actions might be contemptible, but they could serve a purpose.

For instance... walking ahead to clear the mines, acting as cannon fodder.

And Meng Lang was clearly a person with a very clear understanding of his position. After stating his stance, he raised his voice and said to the others: "I won't say much else. As cannon fodder, you have a chance to live. Not as cannon fodder, you'll only be here waiting to die. You figure it out."

As soon as he finished speaking, the others who were still hesitating immediately voiced their willingness, scrambling to be cannon fodder.

What Meng Lang said was naturally something others could think of, but they couldn't be as decisive as Meng Lang.

From this perspective, even as cannon fodder, there are levels.

...

After busying for a full two hours, the seven cannon fodder were finally rescued, but each was trembling from the cold, without their outerwear, looking like plucked quails.

Apart from that, the hair at the back of their heads was shaved off, which made it feel even colder, like standing in front of an air conditioner with cold wind blowing incessantly at their back.

Of course, this wasn't the worst.

The worst off was the one whose face was stuck to the bottom of the pit; a layer of skin on the face came off, wrapped in bandages, looking indescribably miserable.

Moreover, there was a large wet stain behind their pants, causing anyone to frown and show a disdainful expression at a glance.

"Can, can we have some clothes?" someone pleaded while wiping their nose.

"Pushing your luck, huh?" Zhao Guo'an said irritably, "Being able to save you already shows enough goodwill, and you still have the nerve to ask for clothes?"

Meng Lang took a few deep breaths and asked, "How do we get there?"

Xiao Feng smiled: "It's simple."

As he spoke, he jumped down, landing on the belly of the one-eyed man, using it as a stepping stone to exert force again, and upon jumping, he grabbed the edge on the other side of the passage and climbed up with ease.

This operation left Meng Lang and others dumbfounded, thinking this is way too much!

However, the problem is that we can't do it.

"Ugh..." the one-eyed man stomped on the belly, his vision went dark, almost unable to catch his breath, his eyes uncontrollably widened, filled with burning wrath.

He wanted to curse countless times but knew if he really did that, he would only endure even harsher treatment, so he decided to let it go.

After Xiao Feng crossed over, Lin Zhiyan stepped forward, mimicking the action by stepping onto the one-eyed man's belly and then jumping to grab the edge.

However, just as she was about to exert force, she felt her wrists being grabbed by a pair of large hands.

"I'll pull you up." Xiao Feng said.

Lin Zhiyan immediately looked up, suspecting Xiao Feng did it on purpose, but she still released her hands, allowing him to pull her over, taking a few steps on the wall before landing successfully.

Then... she bumped into the arms of the person in front.

In an instant, Lin Zhiyan's face turned red at a visibly fast speed, hurriedly escaping from Xiao Feng's embrace.

Seeing Xiao Feng with a serious look made her wish she could punch him!

The young girl, along with Lu Yao and Lin Jiaxuan, quickly followed over; however, this method didn't work for Zhao Guo'an and others.

Lin Zhiyan calmed her emotions and tossed the Steel Whip: "Hold onto it, if you can't step on that one-eyed man, just step on the clothes, and I'll pull you over."

The one-eyed man, having been stepped on several times, was practically moved to tears, finally not being stepped on anymore.

"Old Zhao, you're so young yet squeezed into the weak, sick, and disabled group; don't you feel any shame?" Xiao Feng taunted.

Zhao Guo'an immediately retorted, "Don't look down on people, okay? I don't believe I can't make it!"

Despite his words, he obediently grabbed the Steel Whip Lin Zhiyan tossed over, after several attempts, he jumped down solidly onto the one-eyed man's belly.

"Wow!"

With no psychological preparation, the one-eyed man directly spat a mouthful of blood from his mouth, but the blood wasn't the previous red color; it was a startling black.

Time seemed to stand still, Zhao Guo'an looked at the one-eyed man under his feet, eyes wide open, then at the black blood on the man's face, suddenly feeling struck by lightning.

The man was actually dead?

He didn't know that when Xiao Feng and others crossed before, they intentionally controlled the force and position, making the one-eyed man feel pain but not to the extent of dying right then.

But his jump, adding his weight and the downward force all at once on the one-eyed man's belly, not dying would be the most bizarre thing.

"What are you dazing about?" Xiao Feng snapped, "You've made him die with unresolved grievances, and you're planning to stand on his belly a lifetime as repentance?"

"Bullshit!" Zhao Guo'an cursed, lifting his feet and being pulled up by Lin Zhiyan.

Having gone through this journey of storms, to say they're extremely scared is a bit exaggerated.

But the look of the one-eyed man dying with unresolved grievances made Zhao Guo'an feel somewhat uncomfortable upon recalling.

"Why not run away taking this opportunity?" someone behind Meng Lang whispered.

Meng Lang shook his head, turning around to say: "I don't think going back would be safer than going forward. I won't stop anyone who wants to run."

Saying this, he grabbed the Steel Whip at his feet and leaped onto a piece of clothing at the bottom of the pit.

The others exchanged glances, unable to understand why Meng Lang was so determined to be cannon fodder, but none went back.

...

Once everyone had crossed over, Xiao Feng distributed some food and water to Meng Lang and others, and the group started off.

Walking for about an hour, a staircase leading straight upward appeared, the end unseen.

Xiao Feng and the others exchanged a glance, feeling it looked familiar.

Unlike the first upward staircase they encountered, this staircase was wide and its angle wasn't as steep.

After a brief pause, Meng Lang instinctively led the people forward to open the way.

Yet, those walking behind each frowned, pinching their nose, as if experiencing something painful.

Even Xiao Feng furrowed his brows, feeling somewhat regretful for saving a certain person walking in front.
