Chapter 7 Ning Yuhuan's Part-Time Job

Xu Lin left after having lunch with Chi Linyue the next morning.

He returned to school a little after ten o'clock.

Ning Yuhuan is a diligent student who basically spends her time in the library when she has nothing else to do.

In a key university, there are many people who study hard.

For example, when Xu Lin arrived at the library a bit after ten, he found it was already packed.

The library starts from the second floor and has ten floors in total.

Today, Ning Yuhuan is on the sixth floor.

Since the elevator was broken, Xu Lin had to take the stairs, going up floor by floor, casually glancing around, and he noticed that each floor was full of people.

Some were sitting on chairs, some standing, and some sitting directly on the floor.

The environment really influences people, even someone like Xu Lin, who usually lazes around, felt the need to be quiet in the library.

If he disturbed these diligent people, Xu Lin would feel embarrassed.

The sixth floor.

Following Ning Yuhuan's hint, Xu Lin finally found her near the window.

"Hubby, over here!"

Ning Yuhuan beckoned to Xu Lin in a hushed voice.

Xu Lin went over, and Ning Yuhuan quickly made room for him on the chair, covering about seventy percent of it.

There were no more seats available, and it was hard to find one in the library between ten and eleven.

It's important to note that Ning Yuhuan isn't one of those girls with a petite or flat backside; on a small chair, sitting on thirty percent of it was definitely uncomfortable. Even girls with smaller backsides wouldn't be comfortable, let alone her.

The library's chairs aren't big.

"You sit; I'll get a book to read."

"Uh-huh!"

Xu Lin then went to check out the nearby bookshelves.

After all, it's the library of a key university, and the shelves are full of books of all kinds, from ancient to modern and from home and abroad.

Xu Lin walked around the sixth floor and even spotted works by recent years' Nobel Prize in Literature winners.

However, he really couldn't appreciate these books. When he was young, Ms. Ren often made him read various foreign classics. He had read world classics like "Robinson Crusoe," "Notre-Dame Cathedral," and "Don Quixote," which everyone knows about, but if he hadn't been rewarded with snacks and games after reading them, Xu Lin wouldn't have been interested in those books at all.

He doesn't like reading.

After wandering around for a while, Xu Lin had no idea what book to read.

Eventually, he picked up two books: "Selected Ci and Fu" and the first volume of "The Story of the Ming Dynasty."

With the books in hand, Xu Lin returned to Ning Yuhuan.

Seeing him back, Ning Yuhuan wanted to make room for him again.

"You sit; I'll just stand."

Xu Lin insisted.

Ning Yuhuan was working on exam papers for the English level six, so Xu Lin didn't sit down.

At this moment, Xu Lin opened "Selected Ci and Fu," which consisted of fifty pieces. The content was not much, but with various annotations and translations, it became quite a thick book.

Xu Lin skimmed through the table of contents and saw famous works like "Divine Lady's Ode," "Gao Tang Fu," "Dengtu's Love of Beauty," "Changmen Fu," and "The Rhapsody of the Luo River Goddess" listed there.

Xu Lin was just curious to take a look, and at the same time, study his own extraordinary memory buff.

Next, Xu Lin opened "Divine Lady's Ode," authored by the renowned ancient handsome man Song Yu. In his other work "Dengtu's Love of Beauty," Song Yu claimed, "having a graceful appearance bestowed by heaven," meaning he was blessed with such good looks, and because of his handsomeness, the neighbor's beautiful woman, the "Daughter of the Eastern Neighbor," peeked over the wall at him for three years. However, Song Yu was not moved, proving he was not just handsome but also a gentleman with a virtuous character, not inferior to the so-called Saint Liu Xia Hui.

In history, those briefly mentioned are never ordinary people, and Song Yu was certainly not; he and Pan An were both dashing great talents.

Song Yu was prominent enough for Xu Lin, so he chose to read Song Yu's works first. There were three of his works here: "Divine Lady's Ode," "Gao Tang Fu," and "Dengtu's Love of Beauty."

The three works didn't have many words, totaling just over two thousand words, and Xu Lin memorized them carefully after just reading through them once.

Xu Lin found this somewhat addictive since earnestly reading once was enough to remember, similar to getting a hundred bucks immediately after moving a brick. This positive feedback made Xu Lin a bit obsessed, and in just over half an hour, Xu Lin memorized the fifty pieces of ci and fu in their entirety.

This gave Xu Lin a sense of achievement.

Then he opened the first volume of "The Story of the Ming Dynasty" to read. Compared to the ancient texts earlier, the modern vernacular made for much more comfortable reading. Xu Lin scanned page by page, not too slow, not too fast, and although he didn't remember every punctuation mark, he had a clear understanding of what each section discussed.

"This buff is strong!"

Xu Lin marveled.

"How can you read so fast?"

Hearing Xu Lin's rapid page-turning, Ning Yuhuan couldn't help but turn her head and whisper a question.

Xu Lin pointed to his head, "Good memory, just need one read-over. Feel free to quiz me."

"Then I'll quiz you!"

Ning Yuhuan got interested, and Xu Lin let her randomly flip to a page in "Selected Ci and Fu" and ask what line belonged to a certain phrase, or what phrase belonged to a certain line.

Ning Yuhuan did as told.

"Page 132, line 17."

From the first character of that line in "The Rhapsody of the Luo River Goddess," Xu Lin softly read: "Like a startled swan, graceful like a wandering dragon..."

Ning Yuhuan asked again, "In 'Gao Tang Fu,' the line 'As the long wind arrives and waves are stirred, so like the lone tree of a beautiful mountain' is on what page and line?"

"Page 98, line 24!"

Ning Yuhuan was a bit surprised and continued to ask some more questions, but found that Xu Lin could answer all of them.

"Is your memory really this good?"

"Impressive, right?"

"Impressive!"

Ning Yuhuan felt a little proud; Xu Lin was her boyfriend.

Noon arrived quickly, and Ning Yuhuan packed up her things, shouldering her single-strap backpack and leaving with Xu Lin.

The two of them ate rice noodles at a noodle shop outside the campus, spending a total of over forty. Though they didn't add any side dishes, it wasn't really cheap. This is Jiangdu, where prices are generally higher compared to ordinary cities, and this is considered relatively affordable consumption.

Feeling full, Xu Lin rubbed his belly and checked the time; it was just past one in the afternoon.

"Senior, how about we rent a room for a few hours?"

Xu Lin felt a bit tempted. As the saying goes, after a meal, one tends to think about certain things.

But the senior said, "No way, I have a part-time job this afternoon, from two-thirty to five-thirty!"

"What kind of part-time job?"

"It's just correcting homework at an institution, and I also tutor on the side!"

Ning Yuhuan eagerly asked, "Honey, are you going?"

"Where is the location?"

Xu Lin, feeling bored and thinking there's no harm in going, asked.

Then Ning Yuhuan gave him an address. Xu Lin checked it out; it wasn't far, about five kilometers from here, though there's no direct subway line. However, he noticed shared bicycles nearby.

Xu Lin said, "Let's take a shared bicycle there!"

"Oh! Then let's take a shared bicycle!"

Ning Yuhuan thought she also needed to rent a shared bicycle, meaning they each would have one. But Xu Lin cleared half the space in front of him, inviting her to sit on the bike.

Ning Yuhuan immediately sat happily.

Xu Lin smelled the fragrance of her hair and whispered in Ning Yuhuan's ear, "You're older than me by a year, senior. Sometimes I feel you're like a little girl."

Ning Yuhuan: "Anyway, I'm older than you by a year!"

Xu Lin laughed, "Sooner or later, you'll call me brother!"

"I won't!"

"Don't worry, there'll be a day!"

When Xu Lin rented a room two nights ago, he wanted Ning Yuhuan to call him brother, but she refused firmly and couldn't let go. She needed the lights off and covered her eyes, and during their time together, she was silent, biting her lip.

Xu Lin could only patiently await his chance.

Soon, Xu Lin twisted the shared bike towards their destination.

He wasn't slow, mostly keeping it at full speed. However, several red lights on the way meant Xu Lin reached the destination twenty minutes later.

Ning Yuhuan modified homework at an educational institution as a part-time job, and six other girls from different schools worked there part-time too.

Like Xu Lin accompanying his girlfriend, there were three other boys from different schools there as well.

"Did you want me to come because you saw others with their boyfriends?"

Xu Lin played with Ning Yuhuan's hair.

She didn't tie a high ponytail today, her long hair reaching her waist, and she had a lot of it, looking especially beautiful.

"Take a guess!"

"Senior, you're being cheeky again!"

"Take a guess, won't you?"

"Oh dear, are you acting cute now?"

Xu Lin seemed to glimpse the doorstep of a new century.

Ning Yuhuan, with her hands behind her back, looked at him and said leisurely, "I just want my boyfriend to be with me!"

"Alright, I'll accompany you!"

In the afternoon, from two-thirty to five-thirty, Xu Lin accompanied Ning Yuhuan while she corrected homework, but it was actually quite boring, and his phone was almost dead from playing games.

Amidst the boredom, Xu Lin opened the author portal to check on the progress of "My 26-year-old Miss Maybach."

Within less than twenty-four hours, it had ninety-seven thousand favorites and twenty-one thousand monthly votes.

As a new book, its performance was explosive, truly extraordinary.

Especially with Wu Chengfeng's promotion, Wu Chengfeng is already halfway to being a legendary figure. The reason he's considered halfway is because end-of-year selection hasn't happened yet, but he's certain to become a legend. His momentum is very strong, and next year there's a high chance he'll become Platinum.

Therefore, with his promotion, almost half the site knew about Xu Lin's book. Many people came upon hearing about it, clicked to see, found the quality exceptionally high, and added it to their favorites.

Additionally, there's no way to know the exact number of rewards since there's no total count available, but there are thirty-eight Alliance Leaders, eight Silver Alliance, and five Golden Alliance?

The Golden Alliance seems to be mostly Wu Chengfeng's rewards, because one of them is from Wu Chengfeng himself.

"Damn!"

"It's not as direct as giving it to me, the site takes half, and what's left gets taxed."

Five Golden Alliance, that's fifty thousand.

Because the reward amount is so high, right now Xu Lin's novel, which has only nine thousand words, is ranked first in sales.

The momentum is quite terrifying.

Regarding this, Xu Lin remained calm.

As time passed, it finally reached five-thirty in the afternoon.

In tasks like Ning Yuhuan correcting homework, the part-time pay is only 80 yuan.

When Ning Yuhuan got the money, she was quite happy.

That's when Ning Yuhuan showed Xu Lin her WeChat wallet balance.

"Honey, look at my wallet balance!"

Xu Lin glanced at it.

Balance: 16,853.34 yuan.

"I also have more than twenty thousand in my bank card."

Ning Yuhuan hugged Xu Lin's arm and said, "This will be my dowry in the future!"

"Don't think too far ahead."

Xu Lin patted her little head and added, "Also, don't be so obsessed with romance."
