BA DUM!
"Please help us…"
BA DUM!
"It hurts so much…"
BA DUM!
"This is not fair… this is not fair!"
BA DUM!
"What did we do to deserve this?!"
BA DUM!
"It hurts… it hurts so much…"
BA DUM!
"Mother… father… I miss you… where are you?"
BA DUM!
"My son… give me back my son…"
Emil felt like he was drowning in a sea of darkness, of pure shadows, yet every time he heard the beating of his heart, the voices would continue, endlessly.
Unknowingly, the moment he stepped into this laboratory, a connection between the tortured, awakened minds of his people was made.
Their screams, their emotions, their agony, he could feel them all, and he could hear their thoughts, their agony…
He could even feel their pain.
"Where am I? What's going on?"
As he kept sinking, the voices became louder, and louder, and louder.
"Ahh… why do you feel so much pain?"
As he asked this question, he glanced into the sky.
The darkness swirled around, suddenly creating countless stars.
The stars merged together, creating countless images, visions.
The images of memories, of the suffering and agony his people had gone through.
How they were captured, enslaved, tortured…
How they saw each other being drained out of every droplet of blood and then turned into drugs.
Children, mothers, fathers, adults, elderly, nobody was spared, even babies.
"Everyone…"
As he glanced at the pain and the suffering of their lives, he compared it to his own life.
Raised on a small rural village, he was protected because it was a village made of honest people.
They were far away from the big cities, hidden behind a huge mountain.
Nobody would ever come to annoy them, and nobody ever learned of the "value" of Emil's blood.
The chief of the village raised Emil with love even when he only found the baby at his doorsteps, like his own son.
He had a life of innocence and joy, despite the difficulties that came alongside living on a poor rural village.
He and his friends and family… they lived a good life, nonetheless.
Compared to these people, the misfortunes he went through were simply nothing at all.
A mere bother…
A little thing that didn't really matter.
"You've lived a good life…"
"I'm happy… for you…"
"Has it been good, son?"
"It was nice, isn't it?"
"These feelings… they feel so nice."
"Thank you for sharing us your life… your memories."
Emil realized the agonizing voices stopped. The mental connection with his people also allowed him to share his memories.
And then these memories that were transferred to their brains, allowed them to feel happiness and calm down, even if slightly.
"Empaths, that is what we are called."
"Huh?"
Emil heard another voice, of a very old woman.
Suddenly, a granny of his same tribe appeared behind him, smiling gently.
"Hello, Emil… My name is Vacualta," she said. "I am the oldest member of our tribe."
"T-The oldest?" Emil wondered.
"Yes, the oldest that landed on this planet, at least…" she said. "Although, I've stopped living long ago."
"S-So you're dead?"
"Indeed. But I live, my existence, my memories, my mind, prevails within the connected minds of everyone."
"The connected minds…"
"It is a unique power we share, our psychic powers, minds, and memories form together and give birth to a Mind Realm of its own. This is where we remain even after death. But if our race stops existing one day, we'll all stop existing as well."
"A-Ah… I…"
"I know you're scared, and I know you don't know what to do anymore… the pain that accepting all these voices and memories inside of your brain must have caused you to pass out, hm, son?"
"Yes… it was so painful… I had no idea everyone was going through so much pain, so much suffering… it makes me so afraid, I-I don't even know what to do…"
"Hm… Our kind, despite awakening psychic powers on those that ingest our blood processed into a drug, often seem to show no psychic powers of their own, isn't it?"
"Ah…"
The granny slowly walked towards him, patting the young man's shoulders with her three-fingered hand.
"It is because of our race, our kind, is very kind-hearted. We belong to a world where there was peace and harmony with nature. We evolved psychic powers and abilities to connect with survive the harsh environment. But once it developed enough, we were able to connect with the minds of animals and even plants."
"Oh…"
Emil saw visions of that, of what granny Vacualta showed him, of an alien world with pink and purple plants, with beautiful mountains and azure skies.
In there, his kind wore tribalistic clothes, the bare minimum covering their gray skinned, slender bodies, as they wandered nature peacefully.
"Once we reached this level, there was no longer any threat other than the weather itself…" she giggled. "We could communicate with all plants and animals, and they would offer us shelter and food. We won the evolutionary race by developing a power that went even beyond our biological composition. The first that developed this power, of an Empath, were called Enlighteners."
"Ah…"
Emil saw a large tribe of his people sitting around a huge pink colored tree made of crystals, sitting cross-legged meditating, their bodies glowing brightly.
"This was a ritual called Union of Souls, where all of us would connect our minds and share our feelings, love, and more. Any negative emotion would be purged, ceasing to exist. We were a truly peaceful tribe…. And yet…"
Explosions, fire, the screams of people, images changed once more as Emil saw the tribes and villages of his people being burned and destroyed.
A spaceship floated above the azure skies, and from them people on heavy armor emerged, enslaving his people.
After discovering they had psychic powers, they were immediately brought to giant labs, tortured, torn to pieces, bisected.
These madmen did everything possible to find what was the "trick" that made his kind have such powers…
So they could have it as well.
Eventually, the horrendous drug was formed, its power incredible, granting supernatural powers to anybody that absorbed it and survived the process of Mind Opening.
"Since then, our kind became nothing but cattle… we were persecuted, enslaved, and torn to pieces."
