Chapter 249: Illiterate in Tears_1

Her sixth sense told her that Chu Changge probably wasn't in this room.

But Willow Not Supporting Wind wanted to see for herself. Only by doing so could she put her mind at ease; otherwise, she would feel as if something was missing.

As she was thinking this, she slowly approached the slightly ajar door and peeked in.

It seemed there was nothing inside. At least, looking through the gap in the door, it appeared empty.

Everything in the office looked like it had been cleared out long ago, leaving only a worn-out table with peeling paint. Sunlight streamed in, and through it, a thick layer of dust was faintly visible on the table's surface.

"Is no one inside?" Willow Not Supporting Wind clung tightly to the paintings in her hands.

Despite her extreme tension, she didn't discard the paintings, even though holding them made it very inconvenient for her to move.

The thick dust on the floor billowed up when she suddenly opened the door, and Willow Not Supporting Wind couldn't help but cover her mouth and sneeze.

After sneezing, she quickly glanced around. Seeing no unusual movements, she relaxed a little.

Willow Not Supporting Wind withdrew her gaze and muttered to herself, "Brother Chu probably isn't on this floor. I should go downstairs to look for him."

Of course, it was also possible he'd been silently killed by a ghost. But Willow Not Supporting Wind preferred the former assumption. If Chu Changge had been killed by a ghost, there would be no one to arrange things for her.

As she was thinking this, she shifted her feet slightly.

Then, Willow Not Supporting Wind suddenly remembered something.

In her rush to find the paintings, she hadn't paid much attention to her smartphone. She hadn't checked the game screen for a considerable period.

Maybe there were new clues in the game now? Maybe they were related to Chu Changge's disappearance?

Thinking this, she managed to free a hand to take out her phone.

The phone was in her jacket pocket, so it wasn't too difficult to retrieve. Within a couple of seconds, Willow Not Supporting Wind was looking at the game screen on her phone.

In the game, only the character representing her stood alone in the corridor, facing the open office door.

The office door in the game was also open.

But something seemed different...

Willow Not Supporting Wind frowned as she looked at the game screen's depiction of the floor near the office doorway. In this pixelated game, the office interior wasn't empty at all.

There was something just inside the entrance.

[A huge bear trap.]

This thing was right by the door, enormous—it looked like it could clamp half a person. If she hadn't checked the game screen and had carelessly stepped on it, she'd be crippled, if not dead.

"Luckily I didn't step directly in," Willow Not Supporting Wind sighed with relief. "This trap is so treacherous! You really have to keep an eye on your phone while walking. What if there's an invisible trap somewhere on the path?"

Letting out a slight sigh of relief, she took a small step back.

But after stepping back, she suddenly realized something was wrong.

The sense of unease didn't stem from the trap in front of her, but from behind her.

Clutching the paintings in her hand, she swallowed hard and slowly began to turn around.

But before she could fully turn around, her throat tightened abruptly...

「Meanwhile, Fatty and Zi Liang had found Year 1, Class 8.」

At this moment, Zi Liang was sitting on a high stool before the teacher's desk, looking utterly bored. For some reason, after Fatty entered this classroom, he had reverted to his dazed mode.

He stared at his phone screen without blinking, as if he could make flowers bloom from it. He stared for a good few minutes. Zi Liang noticed he didn't shift his gaze from the phone screen until four o'clock.

"Fatty, it's really unnerving when you suddenly stare at your phone screen without blinking like that!" Zi Liang swallowed hard.

Fatty retorted, "What do you know? I'm staring at the screen because something's fishy."

Hearing this, Zi Liang couldn't help but recall Fatty and that Doctor whispering to each other when they had parted ways. He asked curiously, "Did that Chainsaw Doctor tell you something?"

Fatty shot him a sidelong glance. "That's a rather fresh and unconventional nickname you've come up with. Alright, I'm done with the chitchat. We're at Year 1, Class 8. Let's first look for anything related to Chu Hang. We can check the seating chart or things like that to see if we can find this person."

Unfortunately, the two of them couldn't find anyone named Chu Hang.

The seating chart for Year 1, Class 8 was clearly posted on the teacher's desk. Fatty and Zi Liang searched it thoroughly multiple times.

Never mind Chu Hang; they couldn't even find anyone with the surname Chu!

In the game, [Wang Panzi] and [Liang'er] showed no reaction, just mechanically following the two of them as they moved around.

Fatty, refusing to accept it, meticulously checked all the textbooks on the desks, the names on the stools, and the graffiti scrawled with correction pen in the desk cubbies, but still found no trace of Chu Hang.

The desks and chairs in the Year 1 classroom looked like they had all been replaced; they were brand new, with few signs of carvings or graffiti.

"What's going on?" Zi Liang was dumbfounded.

At this moment, Fatty, standing beside him, suddenly spoke, his expression a bit strange. "Speaking of which, that attendance register we found in the office was from many years ago, wasn't it?"

Zi Liang nodded.

Fatty turned his head, looking out the window at the Year 3 teaching building directly opposite. "If Chu Hang was in Year 1 many years ago, wouldn't he be in Year 3 by now?"

Zi Liang also realized. "Not just Year 3, he'd practically be about to graduate!"

Still, searching the Year 3 classrooms was a better bet than here, as Chu Hang might not have graduated from Year 3 that long ago.

Realizing this, the two of them hurried down the stairs and ran towards the building opposite them.

"By the way, Fatty," Zi Liang said, panting heavily as they ran, "shouldn't we really check the Year 2 classrooms too?"

Fatty smacked him. "See what? Let's check Year 3 first, then decide."

They really found something in Year 3, Class 8!

In this classroom, Fatty still couldn't find Chu Hang on the seating chart. However, he resorted to his old trick, scouring all the graffiti on the desks and chairs, and finally found Chu Hang's name.

Fatty found his name on a desk. Next to it was a class group chat ID. It seemed that when noting down the group ID, the person didn't have paper and had hastily scribbled it on the desk.

Zi Liang took a glance.

He didn't pay much attention to the group ID and continued to look at the other writing on the desk.

It was clear this desk was an 'heirloom,' having been used by who knows how many students, so the desk was covered in many different people's handwriting. However, it wasn't difficult to find what Chu Hang had written.

This was because this student had a habit of adding the name 'Chu Hang' beneath whatever text he wrote.

It seemed a bit narcissistic...

Fatty didn't care whether he was narcissistic or not; instead, he continued to examine the writing on the desk that belonged to Chu Hang.
