In the warehouse, the ground trembled. In the next moment, a reverberating groan rolled throughout the entirety of the building. In the next moment, a large section of the ground rose into the air..
Norvax stood guard, watching in silence, as Alyssa unleashed her powers. A giant web of cracks rapidly spread across the floor by the second. You do realize if there was any chance that anything down there was alive, it's now dead, right? Norvax asked, his eyes glinting in amusement.
Alissa scoffed, grunting from the strain of lifting the heavy sections of concrete out of the now collapsing section of the ground.
Large sections of concrete now floated in the air, solely held up by the five glowing energy beams.
" Hello, what's happening in there?" a voice rang out at the entrance of the warehouse.
Norvax's eyes widened slightly in surprise.
" Curses! We completely forgot about the guards!"
In a heartbeat, Norvax arrived at the door, slamming it shut.
"Stay back!" he yelled.
The guard's eyes widened slightly in surprise at the suddenness with which the large metallic door slammed shut.
Unholstering one of his guns, the man crept forward warily.
" Officers, what's going on in there?"
"We've stumbled upon a potentially biochemical weaponized gas chamber in the warehouse. It was the reason we were sent here. In our haste, we accidentally armed it. It was what caused the rumbling you probably felt earlier."
The man's eyes widened in belief, a look of fear rippling across his face.
" What the actual hell?!"
The man, Ali Jamal, had worked at the warehouse for close to ten years. Sure, some suspicious things happened from time to time, but nothing that would cause harm to people on such a large scale.
" Is there anything we can do?" he yelled over the noise of the rumbling.
"Evacuate the area with the rest of the guards," Norvax yelled from within, managing to add a tinge of desperation to his voice.
Inwardly, he barely managed to stop himself from laughing out loud.
" Perhaps, I should have considered a career in acting," he mused, a faint smirk appearing on his face.
" We'll take full responsibility for this place. We've already called for reinforcements, and our colleagues are on the way.
A psionic wave rippled through the area, washing over the warehouse.
Norvax smirked, grinning at the anomaly.
" So she's finally here."
To the men outside, police sirens wailed in the distance. A few moments late, the Zolaris' finest arrived, decked out in containment suits.
Of course, all this was only happening in their heads courtesy of Aisha's ability.
Norvax peeped through a small space in the door, observing the retreating guards.
He whistled in appreciation, turning back to Alissa.
" Well, if anything, Aisha's scarier now than when we first met."
A short distance away, Alissa was nearly done excavating the centre of the warehouse.
The five beans of energy she wielded simultaneously stabbed into the ground, plunging into the remaining piles of concrete.
A dull metallic sound rang out, reverberating through the water house.
Norvax smiled darkly, sprinting back to her position.
"Looks like she found something."
Alissa groaned as the light in her eyes faded.
Norvax warily stood beside her, watching their surroundings for any sudden movements.
"If anyone's going to make their move, I reckon they'd move right about now."
His eyes warily swept across the warehouse in search of enemies.
"Right now would be the most opportune time to attack. Alissa's still recovering from using her power at such a large scale, and our allies are a bit of a distance away. Presuming that the enemy knows all this, an attack at this point would actually most likely play out to their advantage."
Alissa was panting heavily, gulping in large lungfuls of air.
" You don't look so good..." Norvax murmured.
" You don't say, "Alissa replied, sarcastically rolling her eyes.
Norvsx smiled in amusement, shifting his gaze to the large opening in the floor before them.
The dust at the cavernous entrance was slowly clearing.
"What do you think is down there?" Alissa asked weakly, her whisper echoing throughout the warehouse.
Norvax grinned wildly. I guess there's only one way to find out.
Alyssa frowned slightly, then her eyes widened in shock.
"You don't mean to..."
In the next moment, Norvax fearlessly leapt into the giant cavern. With a thought, he activated the suit beneath his clothes.
His nano shroud swiftly flowed across his body, enveloping his arms and legs
The silver visor covered his head, instantly shielding him from any noxious gas in case there was any underground.
After a few moments, he landed with a dull thud on top of a large, seemingly metallic structure.
Ordinarily, a fall of that magnitude could have crippled Norvax if he had recklessly jumped into the pit below.
Which was probably what Alissa was thinking at this point.
But, luckily for both of them, he wasn't that stupid or reckless.
Well, he wasn't reckless most of the time, if you didn't consider jumping from buildings without a parachute, something reckless.
The nano shroud he was wearing instantly absorbed the impact of the landing, harmlessly redirecting it into the surroundings.
So technically, he was quite calculating.
After his nearly fatal run-in with the rogue assassins at the Praesagius HQ, he'd developed a somewhat impulsive habit of wearing his suit on his person at all times.
A necessary failsafe.
Not that the handy suit would help him much if he were forced to combat a maestro or a stronger being directly. That was not its purpose. The real beauty behind the nano shroud lay in its ability to redirect Force. Under such circumstances, the suit would be used for a quick getaway if he could not fight the enemy head-on. Of course, such a getaway would mean jumping out from the top floor of an incredibly tall skyscraper.
In case the situation necessitated it.
Despite that, after the recently concluded battle, he was not so sure about his odds of outpacing a being faster than a maestro, but it was better to try than to fail without trying at all.
" Norvax!"
Alissa's voice rang through the darkness of the deep cavern.
" Are you alright?' she frantically scanned through the dust for any sign of movement.
After an agonizingly long silence, Norvax's voice rang through the darkness.
" I'm alright. I'll be with you in a moment."
Alissa's brows furrowed in confusion.
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
While she wasn't entirely familiar with the captain's ability, she definitely didn't think it was possible for him to humanly jump such a long distance; of course, in this case, the Talented were not exactly ordinary humans.
A split second later, a groaning sound echoed throughout the darkness, then something swiftly moved through the darkness.
After the attack, Norvax had taken steps to prepare for another attack.
Nvifvthem was making several much-needed improvements to his suit.
Previously, the suit could only redirect the force generated from the impacts of his jumps and the frenetic speed at which he ran.
But now, the adaptive shit was able to store most of the rebounding energy and release it in a controlled burst, giving him a boost in speed.
And in this case, jump to extraordinary heights or even change trajectory at the drop of a hat.
Metaphorically speaking, of course, since he was much faster than a hat falling through the air.
Gasping in surprise, Alissa took a step back away from the edge of the hole.
Norvax burst through the darkness, his eyes aglow through the dark visor of his suit.
Flashing her a smile, he nonchalantly dismissed the visor og the shirt, retaining the parts around his arms and legs.
"You came with your nano shroud?" Alissa asked, with a tinge of surprise.
Norvax threw her an amused glance as he tapped his comlink.
"Of course, in this business it's better to be safe than sorry, and unlike most people, it seems I learned from my mistakes. A slight frown appeared on her face. What is that supposed to mean
Norvax shrugged.
"Given the number of times we've been attacked out of the blue, I discovered that I like to be prepared in the event such a thing happens again, and so that is why I've decided to be more, shall we say, vigilant. Hence, the suit it's your life, your choice. "
Well, that certainly makes sense.
So what did you find down there?
From the appearance of things, it seems to be a large vault of sorts. I could not move it even with the nano shroud. Of course, I thought about the risk of alerting our enemies, which is why I'm using the nano shroud to communicate with Jeff. We will need a talented that can wield telekinesis to a great extent to move that thing without destroying it, and before you ask, I considered using your powers, but then that would risk damaging whatever is within the vault. After communicating with Jeff, Norvax promptly switched off all coms.
" What happens next? Alissa asked, sitting down on a crate.
" Now we wait."
