Edmund stared at Jamil in shock.
"Did this guy just spit flames out of his mouth?! How is that even possible?"
The man in question grinned, then hurled two twin jets of flames from the palms of his hands.
Edmund grimaced, conjuring a wall of water out of thin air, quickly placing it in front of him.
The jets of flame transformed, turning from a vivid orange to a violent red, then quickly morphed into a ferocious white.
Edmund gasped, conjuring more water.
" This is insane."
The temperature in the room spiked, triggering the heat sensors.
With an abrupt gesture, Jamil crumpled the sprinklers, blocking the water that was supposed to flow into the room.
The floorboards hissed, smoked, then burst into flame.
"You know, if you kids could come quietly, then we could avoid making a scene."
Wth a placating gesture, Jamil casually threw a literal stream of fire at Xander.
Without missing a beat, Warren activated his ability, frosting over the floor with ice.
A split second later, the floor imploded due to the abrupt change in temperature and pressure.
Wth a grunt, Warren raised the wall of ice, pushing it towards Jamil.
Jamil grinned and increased the pressure on Edmund, while simultaneously halting the ice with his telekinetic ability.
"You kids are so fun."
A split second later, the water started frothing, hissing with thick tendrils of steam wafting off of it.
Edmund's eyes widened in surprise, his mouth falling open in disbelief.
" What the hell?!"
With a grunt, Edmund pushed the wall of frothing hot water at Jamil.
Without missing a beat, the man effortlessly parted the water, walking through it with ease.
Just then, one of the occupants of the other room, a chubby man with a bald head, rapped on the door.
"Hello, are you alright in there?"
For a brief instant, everyone froze. Then burst into action.
Warren lunged at Jamil, both fists encased in icy gauntlets of ice, electricity running down his hands.
With a flick of his hand, the corpse flew off the floor into Warren's path, just barely missing him.
The door whipped open, sucking the chubby man into the room, then slamming shut with a resounding thud.
A cruel smile appeared on Jamil's face, twisting his features into a crazed expression.
"As you can see, we're quite alright, thanks for asking."
With a revolting snap, the man's neck snapped around completely, his eyes widening in terror in those final moments.
Jamil grinned, his glowing brown eyes narrowing in amusement.
"That wasn't so bad...."
The smell of piss and shit wafted sickeningly through the room, mixing with the lingering scent of ozone and smoke.
Edmund warily took a few steps back, watching Jamil intently.
His brows furrowed in contemplation, a slight frown appearing on his face.
" Does he also have telekinesis?"
Jamil parted the wall of water with alarming ease, and yet from everything they'd seen so far, only his mastery of flames and uncanny speed were only telekinesis could explain how he'd been unharmed.
Jamil looked at the three youths with confidence, an amused smile forming on his lips.
"The three of you can't beat me," Jamil taunted, his lips cracked open into a mocking grin.
"You simply can't, it's just not possible with the way you are now..."
Xander grinned, rolling his shoulders slightly.
" Much as I hate to admit, with that artifact on him, there's only so much damage we can do."
Intriguingly enough, said artifact was hidden on Jamil's person, so he was making things easy for them.
Xander's smile grew wider, his grip on his blades increasing.
"I'll have to destroy the artifact he's using first, then that should create an opening for us to reach him.
Jamil grinned.
" Brilliant plan once more. But then again, if I can see it coming, it definitely isn't going to work."
Xander smiled, boldly pointing one of his blades at him.
" Well, just have to see about that, won't we?"
Back in the warehouse, Alissa nearly lost consciousness from Carlisle's burst of energy.
" What the hell is he doing?" The Phantoms stunt had nearly drained her remaining reserves of energy.
For a brief instant, the works spun around her, and age cobbled unsteadily on her feet.
" Well, hello there..."
Alissa spun around, falling to her knees from the force of her own momentum.
In the distance, the furious clash between Norvax and two Talented continued, the area gradually transforming from the sheer violence of their abilities.
Despite his earlier taunts, the giant's smile had now disappeared, a slight frown appearing on his face.
Despite his best efforts, he could not keep up with Norvax's uncanny speed, even with his ability.
From what Norvax had been able to seduce so far, the man had a rare, mirroring ability.
This allowed him to mimic the abilities of his opponents and even more extraordinarily surpass them for a brief instant.
That would explain how the man was able to match his speed at certain points in their fight.
Norvax grinned, his eyes glowing ominously behind his silver visor.
He spoke, his voice echoing menacingly from within his suit.
" You're a fraud, you know that?"
The giant silently increased the intensity of his jabs, mixing them up into an irregular, unpredictable rhythm to catch Norvax off guard.
Norvax nonchalantly wove through the attacks, using the small respite to close the distance between him and the giant in an instant.
Without wasting a second, he delivered a brutal jab to the bigger man's solar plexus, the suit instinctively amplifying the force of the blow.
" I see right through you," Norvax whispered.
" You're a weakling trying to be great. Cowards..."
The bigger man grunted in pain, staggering back slightly.
A split second later, he lounged, swinging his fists through the air with prodigious strength, but a moment later, Norvax stood behind.
With a seemingly lazy effort, he kicked the giant behind the knee, bringing the colossus down to one knee.
With a yell, he dashed forward, activating the suit's reserves of kinetic energy and adding them to his own strength.
Gipping the man's arms mid-stride, he hurled him at the lanky fellow, the giant's body hurtling through the air at an incredible speed.
The lanky Talented instantly raised an arm, stopping the man's body midair, but an instant was quite long for a man like Norvax.
In that brief moment, he stood behind the still-moving Talented, his eyes shining through the visor, gleaming with a promise of pain.
His armoured fist blurred through the air, striking the man squarely in the back of the head.
The man crumpled like a puppet whose strings had been cut.
" Well, that makes two of them now."
Norvax came to a stop, breathing heavily from the exertion.
Then, almost, the giant slowly rose to his feet again.
Noevsx paused, staring at the man in quiet disbelief.
"You have got to be kidding me!"
The giant rolled his shoulders, then nonchalantly cracked his neck from side to side, spitting out a tooth in the process.
The man ripped off his now tattered T-shirt, flexing his muscles.
He grinned maniacally, a crazed light shining in his eyes.
" Well, not bad for round one. What do you say to round two?"
Just then, more figures emerged around them, their eyes glowing eerily.
Norvax suppressed the urge to curse out loud, gritting his teeth.
Ten horrendously, when he tried to move his feet refused to move.
Gazing down, his eyes narrowed in realization.
" Damn!"
The ground was creeping up around his suit, rooting him in place.
That made him the perfect piñata.
With a thought, he tried to activate the suit's kinetic energy stores.
[Kinetic energy...0%]
[Kinetic energy stores depleted...]
Norvax stared at the notification on his visor in disbelief.
" Perfect! Just perfect."
The giant lunged forward with a roar, his colossal fist barreling towards Norvax's head.
Norvax gritted his teeth, manipulating the air around him into a makeshift shield. In front of the giant's unrelenting force, the shield cracked and then shattered into pieces.
" This is probably gonna hurt..."
Just then, a dark-haired man calmly strode through the midst of the unfolding chaos, nonchalantly phasing through the giant.
Almost impossibly, time crawled to a stop, all the activated abilities slowing down in the air.
Norvax watched the figure approach in shock.
Despite the chaos unfolding around him, the man seemed untouchable.
"Where did this guy come from? And how the hell did he get here?"
With a smile, the man calmly strode forward, seemingly unbothered.
"Don't worry, I'm here to help. My name is Carlisle. I'm with Alissa, and I'm here to help."
The man's voice resounded directly in Norvax's head.
" What the hell?! How is he even doing that? My suit is impervious to telepathy."
Carlisle smirked.
" Not my kind of telepathy, it isn't."
What was more frightening was the fact that Norvax couldn't tell what his rank was, even with the suit. It was almost like the man did not exist.
With unnatural ease, he hefted Norvax out of the ground, then nonchalantly passed through the unmoving Talented.
A few moments later, they both disappeared.
To the Talented, it seemed like Norvax had vanished right before their eyes.
