The USB documents contained extensive evidence of the deputy director's embezzlement and corruption.
It is by no means his complete report, but it is surely sufficient to fire him if reported normally.
They included photographs and chat logs, and video recordings of his past misdealings. Everything was meticulously documented with great care.
"This represents evidence that the deputy director is taking kickbacks from the company.
As long as you give this evidence to the director, I can guarantee that even if you do not get promoted, you will still gain the director's attention."
Arjun kept urging with false sincerity dripping from every word. "I believe that soon you will be promoted step by step.
Go! This is your chance that might not come again in your lifetime. Take this information to the director's office and report the deputy director!"
His eyes gleamed with malicious intent as he spoke.
---
Ten Minutes Later
After a great effort by Arjun, he watched as Alex took the USB drive containing evidence about the deputy director's embezzlement to the director's office.
Outside in the corridor, Manager Arjun watched Alex's actions with glee. His face displayed a sinister smile stretching across his features.
"Hehe, perfect."
"The fool actually believes it and dares to go through with it."
"It was an open secret throughout the company that the deputy director took kickbacks from the company."
There is a reason Arjun had never dared to report it himself because it was simple and obvious.
This deputy director was a distant relative of the chairman!
It is well known in the corporate industry that one should not mess with people who have connections in the organisation; you will never end well for anyone.
Family connections trumped everything after all.
But he was able to manipulate this naive kid into action instead.
And the fool actually dared to report the deputy director to the director.
That required truly foolish bravery! Or complete ignorance of company politics.
Time passed slowly, minute by minute. Each second felt like an eternity to Arjun, who was waiting outside anxiously for the noise but all he got was silence instead. The quiet was maddening.
"They have not emerged yet after half an hour."
"Nothing bad is gonna happen, right?"
"No, think positive. This kid is probably going to get fired on his first day, haha."
Arjun chuckled with malicious satisfaction bubbling inside him.
Through the half-transparent blinds, he could observe that Director Divansh had seen the USB drive contents.
The director slammed his hand on the table in anger. His face contorted with rage after he saw the evidence. The sound echoed through the office.
Another ten minutes elapsed with agonising slowness.
Alex walked out of the director's office calmly. His expression was neutral and unbothered.
Arjun immediately stepped forward with fake concern in his voice.
He feigned worry while asking
"How did the report go? You did not get fired did you? Even if you were dismissed do not be discouraged. You are a talented person who has contributed to the society. I believe in you..."
His voice oozed false sympathy and manufactured compassion.
However before he could finish speaking Alex smiled and interrupted him midspeech.
"Thanks for the reminder Manager. Thanks to you I got a promotion and a raise."
After saying this Alex extracted a work identification card. It displayed a grade of D level! The plastic gleamed under the fluorescent lights.
The company's employee ranking system ranged from A to G levels, each representing a distinct tier of power and influence within the organization.
A-level represented the chairman himself, absolute authority.
B-level executives controlled entire divisions.
C-level directors like Divansh managed departments.
D-level supervisors headed teams.
E-level employees were regular employees.
Below that lay F and G for junior and contract workers.
Alex had received D-level shortly after taking office leaping over three entire hierarchical tiers in a single bound.
This level was identical to Arjun's former level, which was supervisor status with team management authority and budget control.
They were now equals in the corporate hierarchy, at least on paper. But everyone present knew Alex's trajectory was ascending while Arjun's was about to plummet.
Manager Arjun stared in complete disbelief. His face filled with utter astonishment as the reality crashed down on him like a tidal wave. His jaw went slack, eyes fixating on that damned D-level badge.
How was this possible?!
Alex had not even been in the position for one full day. Not even eight hours.
He was promoted straight to supervisor level?!
This was completely absurd! It defied all logic and company policy.
There was definitely something fishy happening! Someone was pulling strings behind the scenes.
Arjun's face contorted with rage and confusion.
He ignored Alex completely and charged into the director's office like an angry bull that will not stop until he got the expalnation.
His footsteps pounded against the floor. Unable to contain his fury he demanded "Director how did he as a mere newcomer get promoted to my level in less than one day? Is it only because of this report incident, surely not right?!"
His voice rose with each word. His fists clenched at his sides.
Director Divansh nodded calmly without any visible emotion
"How did you know about the report? Well I don't know how you know about the report but Alex was the first to informed me about this matter. Afterward I immediately told the chairman about it.
Subsequently the chairman expressed his tremendous appreciation for Alex. He explained that he had recently learned of corruption within his AI company.
However he had remained silent deliberately to see who would dare expose it and speak up for the company's interests.
Whoever dared to speak out would be promoted as the chairman had decreed. So many employees and managers in our marketing department failed to see through the deception but this newcomer did.
Therefore the chairman said Alex deserves to be promoted immediately."
His explanation was methodical and crushing.
Manager Arjun was rendered completely speechless! His mouth opened and closed uselessly.
Damn it all!
If only he had known this earlier!
He might as well have taken this evidence and reported it himself! The opportunity had been in his hands all this time.
In that case he would be the one receiving a promotion and raise. The reward should have been his.
The director suddenly remembered something additional. He continued
"Oh right there is one more matter I need to discuss with you. It concerns the position of our Marketing Department Head. We only have one Marketing Department Head position. Since he got promoted your position will be..."
At this point Divansh smiled while handing Arjun a small box. The smile was not kind.
Arjun accepted it with trembling hands. His fingers shook violently.
He opened it slowly with dread filling his chest.
There was a work badge inside! The plastic felt cold in his palm.
The employee badge had an "E" printed on it! The letter seemed to mock him.
This letter represented a regular employee level! Bottom tier.
It also meant one thing crystal clear.
He was being demoted! Stripped of all authority.
Arjun's eyes welled with tears threatening to spill. He still wanted to explain desperately "Director why was I treated like this? I..."
Before he could speak further Divansh interrupted him coldly
"No need to say anything more.
Although your performance is decent your interpersonal relationships are a complete mess. You are far too arrogant.
Look around the company. How many of the lower-level employees do you have good relationships with? None correct?
So in view of your arrogant behaviour, I have discussed this with the chairman. We have decided to send you down to the lower level to learn how to get along with employees properly. Good luck!"
His tone was final and dismissive.
Poor interpersonal relationships.....
Arjun could do nothing but only wail in his heart about the great injustice that was he being subjected to.
In fact, Director Divansh's statement was only one of the reasons he gave.
The most important reason was that he had realized the manager and Alex seemed to be at odds constantly.
He is not blind Arjun had been digging holes for Alex all along! Every single interaction had been hostile.
The fact they did not fire this scheming man outright demonstrated that Divansh already considered himself merciful and generous.
-------------
Not Long After
Arjun walked out of his private supervisor's office carrying a large cardboard box. He looked depressed and frustrated beyond measure. His shoulders slumped with defeat.
His office had already been given to Alex. The nameplate was already being changed.
What terrible luck...what cosmic injustice...
Targeting someone had backfired spectacularly. Instead of achieving his goal he was demoted publicly.
Watching Alex move into his former office with a beaming smile Arjun was so angry he nearly vomited blood.
Bile rose in his throat.
No!
This revenge must be taken! He would not accept this humiliation lying down.
His mind raced with dark thoughts and schemes. This was not over. Not by any means.
