Slaying Demons: Starting with Upgrading my Calligraphy

Chapter 289: Mount Wuzhi!_2

The peak towered over three thousand meters high, allowing one to overlook far into the distance, with all surroundings captured at a glance.

Cultivating the Yama Golden Body requires a large number of souls for sacrifice, and this great battle has come at a most opportune time. It's just a pity that such picturesque mountains and clear waters are to be used to bury that filthy group of demons.

Atop Absolute Peak Mountain, Qi Xiu surveyed the surroundings and waved his wide sleeves. Instantly, countless Cloud Seal Talismans surged out, forming numerous Rune Arrays in all directions. Clouds and mist swirled, alternately concealing and revealing the scene. Accompanied by a few soft, expectant chuckles, Qi Xiu's figure gradually vanished from the summit of Absolute Peak Mountain.

...

"Hurry, hurry! Nanlin Prefecture is just ahead!"

The demonic wind howled, and specters wailed, as numerous aggrieved souls and fierce spirits tumbled and cried out in the air. The Demonic Evil Cultivators, converging from various prefectures, unleashed their horrific and malevolent powers with abandon. They left rivers of blood and widespread lamentation in their wake as they raced forward like dark clouds descending upon a city. Within the dense black clouds, the figures of the Demonic Evil Cultivators flickered in and out of sight, their laughter maniacal and terrifying. Their crimson, baleful eyes overflowed with the light of brutality, cruelty, perversity, and greed.

They had all received the edict of the seven Kings, rushing over from various places.

"The King commands: all those who render meritorious service in this battle shall be rewarded! Brothers, charge! If you're late, you won't even get soup, let alone rewards!"

A Little Demon, wielding a blood-red Command Flag, with a tuft of brown hair on its head and clad in soft armor, half-human and half-beast, leaped up and down. Its shrill voice urged the Demonic Evil Cultivators to accelerate. He was a Messenger Demon nurtured by the seven Kings. His combat power was mediocre, but he was exceedingly fast and used for conveying messages.

In the deepest part of this group of demons, a refined-looking man in a Confucian robe, with red lips and white teeth, sat quietly on a pen-shaped Magic Artifact about three meters long, its tip as red as blood. He held a scroll in one hand, deeply engrossed in reading, utterly out of place amidst the chaotic surroundings.

RUMBLE—

Demonic clouds and fiendish mists that blotted out the sun swept across the horizon, stirring up a vast miasma of foul, rank odors. But just as they swept over a sheer peak over three thousand meters high, the surrounding world altered dramatically. Thunder crashed loudly, and the heavens and earth grew dim. Vast, trembling sounds of thunder surged, and startling lightning frequently tore through the sky, shocking everyone!

"What's going on?"

"Damn, it's an ambush!"

"Which bastard is causing trouble? Get out here!"

"Which idiot led the way? You've led your daddy straight into a pit!"

"Damn it, grab your weapons!"

A cacophony erupted. The Demonic Evil Cultivators within the demonic clouds each deployed their techniques. In an instant, endless black smoke billowed and surged. Massive, grotesque demonic forms were revealed, roaring at the heavens, their voices shaking the land. Demonic Cultivators activated their Evil Methods and revived their Magic Artifacts, while ghastly, shrieking souls and resentful spirits swirled around them.

"My friends from afar, you have certainly kept me waiting," a calm voice slowly resonated from the summit of the sheer peak ahead, just as the Demonic Evil Cultivators were using various techniques to forcibly break through this strange formation.

The mountain wind was chilling, and the sea of clouds churned. A young Daoist stood atop the summit of the mountains. He was clad in a deep blue, wide-sleeved Daoist robe that fluttered in the wind, like an immortal amidst the floating clouds. A jade tassel belt lightly cinched the waist of his robe, exuding traces of refined elegance. The Daoist had a quiet and detached air; his eyes, seemingly half-closed, flashed with wise brilliance. He kept his wide, soft sleeves gathered. An aura as boundless and vast as the ocean lingered around him—profound, inscrutable, and exuding an all-encompassing majesty. An invisible pressure emanated from this seemingly delicate youth.

"You look familiar," the man in the Confucian robe stepped forward, pushing through the throng of wavering Demonic Evil Cultivators. His complexion was as pale as snow, yet his lips were bright red, and his eyes reflected the character for "Resentment."

"I find you familiar too," Qi Xiu replied, his expression shifting slightly as a memory flashed through his mind, his gaze falling on the Demonic Cultivator with "Resentment" reflected in his eyes.

The Demonic Evil Cultivators maintained a list known as the Blood List. Based on its rankings, they would ambush and assassinate cultivators from this province. Correspondingly, the Human Race also had a list of its own, named the Demon Subduing List! And this Demonic Cultivator before him was none other than the Bloody Grudge Scholar, Jia Changsheng, ranked one hundred and thirteen on the Demon Subduing List.

This man was originally a Confucian cultivator named Jia Qing. As his lifespan neared its end, unwilling to perish, he turned to practicing the Demonic Path's cultivation technique, the Sea of Blood, Resentment of the Netherworld and Longevity True Scripture. From then on, he changed his name to Jia Changsheng. Within five years of turning to the Demonic Path, no fewer than seventy thousand lives had been lost at his hands. He was listed as a top-priority Demonic Cultivator by the Xiangchu Prefecture Town Office. Later, due to cleansing operations in Xiangchu Province, he was forced to flee into Dianchuan Province and lay low. After the Hundred Thousand Great Mountains officially invaded Dianchuan Province, this man became active once again; in just three months, he had slaughtered nearly a hundred thousand people. Previously, more than ten Ancient Sect Cultivators had attempted to ambush and kill him. However, the Sea of Blood, Resentment of the Netherworld and Longevity True Scripture he practiced granted extremely strong Life Force, allowing him to escape at critical moments during several ambushes.

I originally intended to net some small fry, but I didn't expect to catch a tiger-striped fish on the first try. It seems this place is indeed a feng shui treasure land!

A hint of purple shimmered in Qi Xiu's eyes as he activated his Observing Qi Skill. The auras of the nest of Demonic Evil Cultivators before him were instantly clear. Seven were at the Bloodstain level; the rest were at the Initiate Realm. Apart from Jia Changsheng, the auras of the other six Bloodstain cultivators were muddled and indistinct; they were hardly formidable opponents.

Even so…

"Jia, quickly, take him down! This brat maliciously ambushed us. If we're delayed in carrying out the King's orders, we'll all be punished!"
