System: My Doomsday Train

Chapter 74: "Doomsday Marriage Certificate".

"Tieling Wasteland" is a low-level area, where a maximum of level 3 trains can be accommodated, and only level 3 monsters may emerge. When the train reaches level 3 and is fully equipped, ready to advance to level 4, it needs to head to a higher-level domain and start preparing for a career change.

There are two career change options.

Mechanical Train, Flesh and Blood Train.

Each level-up introduces changes not only by increasing the train's basic speed and allowing for more buildable parts but also by adding one or more new functions with each level.

For example, the new function upon reaching level 2 is "Personalized Customization."

And the additional new function when reaching level 3 is—

"Heritage Value."

Heritage Value is a feature only available for level 3 trains, and having a sufficiently high Heritage Value presents more opportunities in high-level regions, such as... when an elusive black market dealer waves to stop the train, allowing you to purchase rare goods from him, or gaining entry into black markets that require a certain Heritage Value.

Or some special parts may require a certain amount of Heritage Value to be installed.

And so on.

Only benefits, no drawbacks.

There are several ways to acquire Heritage Value.

Taking in a child under 12 years old adds 1 Heritage Value.

A couple on the train signing a contract with a "Doomsday Marriage Certificate" adds 100 Heritage Value.

A newborn among passengers adds 1 Heritage Value.

And so on.

...

Heritage Value, as the name suggests.

Whether by taking in children or having newborns, these passengers basically provide no power to the train and continuously consume the train's resources.

Heritage Value is the corresponding compensation offered.

A meager reward given to those willing to consider the legacy of civilization in the apocalypse.

The reward isn't too generous.

If it were too generous, childbearing would become a business.

The special tool "Doomsday Marriage Certificate," if finding a suitable couple on the train, adds a full 100 Heritage Value to the train. He has no concept of Heritage Value, but he has a concept of taking in 100 children.

100 Heritage Value is definitely not a small amount.

But...

"..."

Chen Mang shook his head regretfully and put the Doomsday Marriage Certificate into the drawer beside the console. There was no use for it for the time being; there wasn't even one couple on the Constant Star Train, let alone true love, and the train hasn't upgraded to level 3 yet, so Heritage Value isn't needed for now.

Let's talk about it later.

After inventorying the items dropped by the Red-eyed Rabbit and the first kill rewards, Chen Mang turned his gaze to the remaining rewards.

The level 3 boss Zombie King dropped not only a white-grade Vehicle Accessories Blueprint for a "Continuous Bed Crossbow."

But also a reward.

"Handheld Zombie Perception Shield."

Again with this stuff, if it weren't for giving one of these shields to the Train Captain of the "Bloodthirsty Bull Train" during a previous deal, he would now have three of these items.

These things are only useful in specific situations.

Most of the time, their effect is quite limited, as the wasteland's monsters aren't just zombies, and it can only block the perception of level 1 zombies. But having it is better than not, so he threw it into the drawer alongside the Doomsday Marriage Certificate.

The final harvest was from the rewards dropped by slaying the Corpse Tide.

The quantity was indeed large.

There were hundreds of items.

-

928 units of level 1 Corpse Flesh.

23 units of level 2 Corpse Flesh.

-

Yes, killing zombies only dropped these things, all "Corpse Flesh"; it seems to be a special resource, similar to "Spider Silk," and nothing else dropped.

Nor did any accessory blueprints that could use the special resource "Corpse Flesh" drop.

He checked the white accessory "Continuous Bed Crossbow," and the resources needed weren't Corpse Flesh.

He temporarily didn't know what these resources were for.

He tossed them all into the corner of a refrigerator; the quantity was quite large, taking up a lot of space, and it looked bloody and somewhat disgusting, so the fridge was just right.

Not to mention the space, it definitely keeps things fresh, and even the smell is sealed in.

The smell won't come out of the fridge, nor will it affect his chilled cola.

Not bad.

Thus—

All the gains from this night's journey were inventoried, and it was quite a haul. He was very satisfied with this.

In this world, killing monsters was not the mainstream development method.

Except for the Flesh and Blood Train.

For the Mechanical Train to develop, the most important resource is actually only one, that is "iron ore." The status of other resources is inferior to iron ore, even if his train can massacre Corpse Tides at will, all he would gain is more Corpse Flesh.

Slaughtering Corpse Tides cannot yield important resources like iron ore.

Mining is the main development path.

Dealing with monsters, evasion is the best way.

"Sleep!"

Chen Mang got up from the console, stretched long and stretched his limbs, then walked to the bed and plopped down. It was already late, quite tiring, sleep first, and deal with the remaining matters when he gets up tomorrow.

In his dreams.

He dreamed again.

This time he dreamed his train had hundreds of carriages, with a hundred open-air carriages, each equipped with four "Sakura Fall Rocket Cannons."

The train sat on the wasteland, surrounded by tens of thousands of monsters, roaring and charging.

Black clouds covered the sun, and even the ground trembled because of it.

He just chuckled coldly, waved his big hand, and countless rocket cannons with orange-red tail flames immediately covered the sky, and the harsh whistling sound resounded through the entire sky all at once.

When countless rocket cannons fell into the monster group, a sky full of fire soared into the sky along with the black clouds, like a god's wrath sweeping the world.

When the black cloud dissipated.

Wherever the eye could see, all was rubble.

And the "Powerful Magnet" embedded on his train's head, upgraded to a hundred levels, was emitting a powerful white light, quickly drawing the items dropped by the dead monsters into the carriage, and at that moment...

He faintly heard an untimely voice coming to his ears.

"Brothers, get ready, we're going mining."

"Mining takes some effort, mining requires hard work."

"Hey ho..."

"I'm going to shout one, mining requires dedication."

"Yo hey..."

"I'm going to shout two, all hands on deck for mining."

"Yo la..."

"I'm going to shout three, swing those arms in circles."

...

"..."

In the morning, successfully awakened by the noise, Chen Mang had washed and stood expressionlessly at the train cabin's window. He looked out at the bustling scene outside; it was already light, and the slaves had started working. However, today was a bit different.

That goblin slave Doba was leading the chant.

The voice was so loud it even penetrated the train cabin, waking him from his pleasant dream.

Doba, swinging a pickaxe and shouting, while the rest of the goblin slaves followed the chant's rhythm, swinging pickaxes and loudly responding with equally raised voices.
