The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 2: Two Flaws of Fu Xi

The news of Black Long Hair Gong Gong toppling over Buzhou Mountain sent shockwaves across the world.

Every Immortal and demon went after Gong Gong, flipping through the Nine Heavens and the lands, not even sparing the black sows in pigpens.

In the forest, members of the Black Bear Clan were cursing Gong Gong that his sons be born without assholes while they were busy shedding their fur.

"Damn it, why is this fur so hard to shed!"

The young Clan Leader rubbed himself against a tree while complaining, "Mother, why did you give me such hard-to-shed fur?"

"Idiot, how much can you really rub off on a tree!"

An old she-bear on the side scraped her body with a knife, "Using a knife is quicker!"

"You're also an idiot, you scrape today, and tomorrow the stubble will be back."

The old Clan Leader, frustrated and disappointed, "Using a hair removal liquid is much more thorough!"

"Hair removal liquid?"

"It's magma. Without the skin, where would the hair attach!"

While the old Clan Leader spoke, he poured a bucket of magma over himself and immediately, the smell of cooked flesh filled the air.

"Dad, you seem to be cooked."

The Clan Leader cried out in alarm.

At this moment, a Bear Demon suddenly ran in.

"Clan… Clan Leader!"

"What?"

The bear Clan Leader's heart tightened, "Have those people come searching here?"

"No, no, Leader, a great Immortal has arrived by the sea, who can cast a spell to help us shed our fur!"

The Bear Demon answered.

"What?"

The bear Clan Leader stopped rubbing against the tree.

To think there was such a person!

"Lead the way."

He called all his clan members and followed the Bear Demon to the sea.

"Great Immortal, please help us shed our fur!"

At the seaside, a group of Black-haired Demons knelt on the ground and incessantly kowtowed.

Sun Wukong looked puzzled, but still waved his hand, casting off all the hair from their bodies.

"Thank you, great Immortal, thank you!"

A group of shiny white Demons happily left.

Sun Wukong then sat on a cliff rock and began to meditate.

He needed to recover from his wounds.

Soon, the excited Bear Demons ran over, only to find Sun Wukong meditating.

They did not dare to disturb him, so they could only wait.

After about the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, the bear Clan Leader noticed that some of Sun Wukong's black hair was receding, leaving behind dazzling patches of fur.

"He's changing fur!"

He exclaimed.

"Golden fur!"

"He turned from black fur to golden fur!"

The other Bear Demons exclaimed too.

The Bear Demon King, on realizing, slapped his thigh, "That's it, besides shedding, we could also dye our fur!"

The rest of the Bear Demons had a sudden realization.

"That's right."

They joyfully returned.

Sun Wukong rose from his meditation and looked around, the Demons had all disappeared.

There was too little Spiritual Energy on this land, and his injuries had hardly recovered.

"If only I could find some Herbal Medicine."

Sun Wukong thought to himself, although he didn't have a fatal injury, they were by no means light, and without Herbal Medicine, it might take a month to heal.

Unfortunately, this world didn't seem like it would last another month.

"You've been following me for a long time."

Sun Wukong turned around and said, "It's time for you to come out."

As his voice fell, the sea roared and surged, revealing a giant tortoise hundreds of feet long.

"Heavenly God above, I am a ten-thousand-year-old turtle."

The giant tortoise bowed its head and spoke.

With a flash of Eyes of Golden Flame, Sun Wukong nodded and asked, "What do you want with me?"

"Please, Heavenly God, save my life."

The trembling tortoise said, "I've followed you, Heavenly God, whose power is limitless; surely you can save me."

It had witnessed Sun Wukong descending from the sky, breaking Buzhou Mountain, and terrifying with his Divine Skills.

A thought flashed in Sun Wukong's mind; unfamiliar with life here, this old turtle must surely know many things.

Thus, Sun Wukong nodded and said, "My Immortal Body is injured, if you can find some herbs to help my recovery, I will surely save your life."

"Of course."

The giant turtle was overjoyed, for it knew that across the sea, there were Immortal Elixirs that could help Sun Wukong recover.

"Take me there."

Sun Wukong turned and transformed, resembling an exiled young immortal; his features were picturesque, and his eyes sparkled like stars.

The giant turtle was stunned and felt an even deeper reverence.

It carried Sun Wukong on its back and embarked on the journey.

On the way, Sun Wukong expressed some of his doubts.

The giant turtle told him it didn't know what Chaos was.

The way it described this world, Sun Wukong felt it was very similar to the Three Realms, undergoing Reincarnation every one hundred and twenty-nine thousand years.

However, there were differences from the Three Realms as well; the cycles of destruction and creation here were exceedingly similar, all recorded within the Heavenly Destiny.

"What is this Heavenly Destiny?"

Sun Wukong inquired.

There seemed to be no Heavenly Palace here, so how could there be a Heavenly Destiny.

"I haven't seen it."

The giant turtle responded, "I've only heard that it's a pillar, and only a few can see it in their dreams."

Immediately, an ornate column emerged in Sun Wukong's mind.

Could it be that?

He pondered.

Sun Wukong traveled over the sea on the turtle's back, witnessing the floodwaters engulfing the earth.

A great hole was torn in the sky, and a torrential downpour fell like a deluge, with floodwaters sweeping through the forests, carrying broken branches and stones across the land.

"Was it also I who caused this destruction?"

Sun Wukong gazed up at the sky.

"Yes."

The giant turtle said, "I saw you, Heavenly God, break the heavens."

Sun Wukong was thoughtful.

The earth had become a vast ocean, the plains submerged, with devastation everywhere; yet many cities and houses were built upon the mountains and were not greatly affected.

"Why are the houses all built on the mountain?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"The destruction of heaven and earth is a foreordained Heavenly Destiny, which all beings have long known; yet, they still hope that this time the Heavenly Destiny can be broken."

The giant turtle answered.

Because they knew in advance, people were prepared.

Despite the heavens falling and the earth rending, casualties remained minimal for the time being.

"Why do you not hate me when you know full well it was I who shattered the heavens?"

Sun Wukong asked again.

He had shattered Buzhou Mountain, yet the giant turtle offered help voluntarily, which puzzled him.

"Only you could save me from Fu Xi and Nuwa."

The giant turtle replied.

"What grudge is there between you and them?"

Sun Wukong inquired.

The giant turtle then began to recount its story.

As it turned out, its clan was the pillar used to mend the heavens.

Nuwa didn't want to marry Fu Xi and had to mend the sky; therefore, she needed a giant turtle, from which to cut off its limbs.

In order to stop Nuwa, however, Fu Xi had killed all the giant turtles in advance.

"My father cultivated for tens of thousands of years, only to be slain by a single stroke from Fu Xi."

Tears filled the giant turtle's eyes, "Fu Xi, in order to fulfill the Heavenly Destiny, trained diligently from a young age, becoming more powerful than anyone else; no one in this world can defeat him."

"Knowing the dangers, why did you not prepare?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"Of course we did."

The giant turtle said to Sun Wukong, although Fu Xi was formidable, he had his weaknesses.

"What weaknesses does Fu Xi have?"

"Stupid head."

The giant turtle answered, "My father was extremely clever and saw that he had a stupid head, so he thought to use the Turtle Breath Technique against him."

"Play dead?"

"…Yes."

The giant turtle nodded.

Curious, Sun Wukong asked, "Did it work in the end?"

"That brings us to his second weakness."

The giant turtle suddenly became somber, "My father calculated everything, but he did not foresee that he had another weakness."

"What is it?"

"He's a glutton!"
