Observatory, Sun Wukong seemed to be immersed in a sea of silver light.
He floated amidst the boundless sea of clouds, gazing up at the stars in the sky for a long time before coming back to his senses.
"Indeed..."
Having been in the Heavenly Palace for eleven days, Sun Wukong discovered proof beyond the Three Realms.
He learned that the Star Monarchs of the Heavenly Palace did not actually dwell in the real stars, and the Moon Palace was merely one of the palaces within the Thirty-three Heavens, not the actual moon.
This realization was crucial to him.
Virtue Palace, a carriage came to a stop.
"Great Emperor."
The officers of Tranquility and Calm bowed to the True Warrior Great Emperor as he stepped down.
The True Warrior Great Emperor had Wang Lingguan tether the Heavenly Horse, saying, "I'm here to drink with the Great Saint."
The Officer of Tranquility immediately ran back to the Virtue Palace to report to Sun Wukong, who was enjoying the stars at the Observatory.
Sun Wukong entertained the True Warrior Great Emperor.
"How come the Great Emperor has the time to come by today?"
He inquired.
"I was just passing by and thought to have a talk with you,"
replied the True Warrior Great Emperor.
In fact, he had just visited the Jade Emperor not long before.
The Jade Emperor originally thought that Sun Wukong wouldn't stir up trouble in the Heavenly Palace, but over these eleven days, he suddenly realized that most of the Immortals became well-acquainted with Sun Wukong.
"This monkey is both literary and martial, and even the skill to form cliques is alarmingly high!"
The Jade Emperor was vigilant in his heart: "True Warrior, go meet Sun Wukong for me, tell him not to hold any more banquets."
Coincidentally, the True Warrior Great Emperor also took an interest in Sun Wukong and came for a visit.
The two chatted over tea.
"Great Saint, what is your purpose for holding these banquets?"
the True Warrior Great Emperor asked.
"I want to make more friends among the immortals in the Heavenly Palace,"
Sun Wukong replied with a smile: "They like the food from Huaguo Mountain, so they will no longer be biased against us."
The True Warrior Great Emperor nodded, seemingly the Jade Emperor had worried too much, Sun Wukong clearly wasn't trying to form any factions.
"By the way, Great Emperor,"
Wukong curiously asked, "Did you make reforms at Wudang?"
The True Warrior Great Emperor nodded: "Yes, that did happen."
He applied the knowledge that Wang Lingguan learned from Huaguo Mountain; although the changes weren't significant, there were some positive outcomes.
"Why doesn't the Great Emperor persuade the Jade Emperor to make some changes as well?"
Wukong pointed out: "This Heavenly Palace really never changes."
"Is it bad to remain unchanged?"
The True Warrior Great Emperor laughed: "The Heavenly Palace and Wudang are different. Here, one lives in carefree comfort, and even if changes are needed, they're not so easily accomplished."
"I dislike a lack of change,"
Sun Wukong said as he picked up a pastry, "Life like this is truly boring."
"How can it be boring?"
The True Warrior Great Emperor shook his head: "The Immortals in the Heavenly Palace live leisurely every day; beings from across the Three Realms dream of becoming Immortals. This place is the epitome of contentment."
It seems the Heavenly Palace will not change any time soon.
Sun Wukong inwardly sighed.
The Heavenly Palace indeed held the finest resources of the Three Realms, what a pity to leave them unused.
But some things, he couldn't force.
Regardless of the state of the Heavenly Palace, Sun Wukong's goal was very simple; at the very least, Immortals must not become an obstacle to him.
Sun Wukong finished eating the pastry.
"Great Emperor,"
he suddenly asked, "Is the time in the Heavenly Palace fixed? Can it be made the same as in the Mortal World?"
Lately, during his visits with the Immortals, Sun Wukong found they weren't so rigid.
If time in the Heavenly Palace could be synchronized with the Mortal World, they wouldn't be so alarmed by changes.
"Time is not fixed but is extremely difficult to change,"
said the True Warrior Great Emperor.
"Why?"
asked Sun Wukong.
"To change it would mean disrupting the Heavenly Palace.
You think about it, demolishing and rebuilding the Heavenly Palace—is that something Immortals would agree to?"
the True Warrior Great Emperor replied.
Sun Wukong was stunned.
"That's only one of the reasons,"
continued the Great Emperor: "Having the same time wouldn't be bearable for every Immortal..."
The True Warrior Great Emperor stopped there.
"To change time, at the very least, you would need consent from The Three Pure Ones and the Four Emperors."
He concluded.
Sun Wukong fell silent then.
The Great Emperor stayed a while longer before standing up to leave.
In the evening, it was time for chess.
Sun Wukong went to Tongming Hall.
"Great Saint."
Inside the Tongming Hall, a Heavenly General pulled aside the curtain, letting Sun Wukong into the Jade Emperor's chess room.
Sun Wukong took a few steps, then suddenly turned around.
"Are you the Curtain-Rolling General?"
he questioned.
"Yes,"
the Curtain-Rolling General quickly replied, taking daily care with the curtains and knowing full well that Sun Wukong was a favorite of the Jade Emperor, he dared not neglect his duty.
Sun Wukong looked at the Curtain-Rolling General, a sense of kinship welling up inside.
"This is for you."
He went back and placed some pastries in the hands of the Curtain-Rolling General: "Thank you for rolling the curtains for me these days."
"The Great Saint is too courteous,"
the Curtain-Rolling General was flattered.
This Great Saint, just as the rumors said, treated all Immortals with respect and courtesy.
After giving the pastries to the Curtain-Rolling General, Sun Wukong entered the chess room.
"Have you arrived?"
The Jade Emperor looked up at Sun Wukong: "Sit."
Sun Wukong sat opposite him.
As usual, the two began to play chess against each other.
"Wukong."
In the midst of the game, the Jade Emperor suddenly said, "Emperor Donghua came to me today and proposed handing over the Ten Continents and Three Islands to you, letting you institute reforms."
Sun Wukong's eyes lit up modestly.
The Ten Continents and Three Islands were rarely trodden by humans, an overseas Immortal Island filled with immortalizing Immortal Grass Ganoderma, where the Immortals lived unfettered, carefree lives.
There resided Emperor Donghua's residence, as well as the Star of Fortune, Star of Longevity, and other venerable Immortals, most of whom had good relations with Sun Wukong.
Carrying out reforms there would indeed not be too difficult for Sun Wukong.
"Does Your Majesty agree?"
Sun Wukong inquired.
The Jade Emperor's chess piece paused.
"I've had other thoughts now,"
he said with a cold tone: "I'll hand over the Immortal Peach Orchard to you, go and see, there are things in the Peach Orchard you might like."
Sun Wukong was stunned.
