The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 165: These Words Are Unpleasant

At the beginning of the New Year, the four Great Saints of the Demon World left Wanling City.

A few days later, Emperor Donghua summoned all the Earth Gods and Mountain Gods of the Western Continent to the Wanling Hall.

"Greetings, Great Saint!"

Thousands of old men knelt before Sun Wukong, forming a vast sea.

This unique scene left Sun Wukong dumbfounded for a while.

"Rise."

He waved his hand and said, "From now on, greet me with a clasped hands salute."

The Earth Gods and Mountain Gods stood up, looking at him with the utmost respect.

Sun Wukong's gaze swept across the crowd, noticing a group of Earth Gods and Mountain Gods in the back without appointments.

Their qualifications, having passed Emperor Donghua's tests, were beyond doubt for Sun Wukong.

He summoned the Jade Seal, and immediately countless lights flew out from it, landing on those old men.

Sun Wukong granted them their Immortal Positions.

"From now on, carry out your duties well."

He said.

"Thank you, Great Saint!"

The Earth Gods and Mountain Gods thanked him with clasped hands.

"As for you..."

Sun Wukong surveyed the others, and with a smile said, "Keep up your good work, and take extra care of the people passing through your territories."

"Your command is our wish!"

All the old men in the hall replied.

"Great Saint."

The old men seldom had a chance to visit Wanling City, and so they bent over and pleaded, "May we stay here for a moment?"

They could not leave their assigned lands without Sun Wukong's permission.

"You may."

Sun Wukong knew their desires and nodded in agreement.

The old men were overjoyed, and after taking their leave, they all rushed to the Chuanyin Hall.

At noon, Lady Rakshasa brought a Daoist nun wearing a colorful silk hat to Wanling City.

"Sister, it's the first time I've encountered someone like me."

Lady Rakshasa spoke affectionately to the Daoist nun.

"Rakshasas are indeed rare."

The Daoist nun replied.

Lady Rakshasa was adjusting the Spiritual Network in West Liang Woman Country when she accidentally came across the Daoist nun and discovered she was also a Rakshasa who had cultivated a human form.

Having rarely met one of her kind, Lady Rakshasa invited the Daoist nun to Wanling City.

"What place is that?"

The Daoist nun suddenly pointed at a beautiful palace.

"Chuanyin Hall."

Lady Rakshasa answered.

"Why are so many people queuing?"

The Daoist nun saw a crowd of short old men outside Chuanyin Hall.

"May I go have a look?"

She asked.

"Of course, you may."

Lady Rakshasa nodded and led the Daoist nun over.

Upon approaching, they found that these old men were either Earth Gods or Mountain Gods who had specifically come to visit Chuanyin Hall.

Female demons of various species had brought them incense; their sweet voices were like a spring breeze, healing their mundane lives.

Many Earth Gods and Mountain Gods brought local specialties to express their gratitude.

The female demons joyfully welcomed them.

Each female demon was surrounded by a group of Earth Gods and Mountain Gods, with Water Moon Fairy having the most around her.

But the crowd around Daji was larger than Water Moon Fairy's and the other female demons' combined.

It was clear who was the most popular.

"Does Miss Daji have any troubles?"

Daji looked different from the other female demons, with not much of a smile on her face, and the Earth Gods and Mountain Gods were concerned, "May you share your troubles with us? We are willing to relieve them for you."

"It's not exactly a trouble."

Daji said, "Just now while bathing, I suddenly thought of Huaguo Mountain."

"I have a bathing lake on Huaguo Mountain, but here, there is only a bathhouse."

Daji disliked the bathhouse of Chuanyin Hall.

"That's not difficult!"

An Earth God laughed, "I have a Cleansing Spring, a naturally hot water source, originally the bathing place for the Seven Immortal Nuns. Now that the Western Continent has been given to the Great Saint, the nuns no longer come, so Miss Daji, you are welcome to use it."

Daji was overjoyed.

The Earth Gods around Water Moon Fairy were also very attentive.

They had all inquired about the Fairy's preferences.

For this visit, each Earth God brought specialty delicacies.

Water Moon Fairy looked at the small mountain of gifts and then at the eager people, her mouth twitched, but she still resisted the urge to lash out.

The Taoist nun watched the scene unfold and couldn't help but silently chant a Buddhist mantra in her heart.

"What's the point of all this suffering?"

"Wolves!"

Suddenly, a cry of alarm came from the crowd.

A few female demons dodged with panic-stricken faces: "There are two of them!"

"What!"

Before the others could react, they saw the Water Moon Fairy had already rushed over, with quick eyes and deft hands, she grabbed something and exclamations rang out.

Many female demons gasped in shock.

"Immortal, Immortal..."

Someone said tremblingly: "Please don't come over here!"

"What's wrong?"

Lady Rakshasa looked around puzzledly: "Where are there any wolves around here?"

"They're talking about roaches."

The Taoist nun saw the two cockroaches in the hands of the Water Moon Fairy.

"Go away, and don't show up here again."

The Water Moon Fairy said to the cockroaches in her hand.

She placed her hand on the ground.

As if understanding her words, the two cockroaches nodded their antennae and scurried out of Chuanyin Hall, disappearing from sight.

"Sister is truly brave!"

The female demons gathered around with admiration: "To dare catch cockroaches with bare hands!"

"I'm used to seeing them, so I'm not afraid."

The Water Moon Fairy's expression was somewhat complex.

With piles of food appearing in her room every day, she had become very familiar with cockroaches.

"The Fairy is truly kind-hearted."

The Earth Gods praised: "Even the lives of cockroaches are pitied and loved."

The female demons nodded in agreement; they had originally not been too fond of getting close to the Water Moon Fairy because she ate a lot.

But this unintentional act garnered her their goodwill.

Seeing this, the Taoist nun smiled.

It had been two years since she'd seen the Water Moon Fairy, who seemed to have changed somewhat.

But it appears she's doing well here; there's no need to worry.

"Let's go!"

The Taoist nun took Lady Rakshasa and left.

The two arrived at Wanling Hall.

"Great King, this is..."

Lady Rakshasa was about to introduce the Taoist nun to Sun Wukong.

"This is a Bodhisattva."

Sun Wukong, seeing the Buddha Light emanating from her, asked: "May I know the Bodhisattva's honored name?"

"I am Vilanpo Bodhisattva."

The Taoist nun said.

Lady Rakshasa was shocked; wasn't she a Rakshasa? How could she be a Bodhisattva?

"I used to be a Rakshasa."

The Bodhisattva explained with a smile to Lady Rakshasa.

Stunned, Lady Rakshasa pondered; can a Rakshasa also become a Buddha?

"What brings the Bodhisattva here?"

Sun Wukong asked again.

"My son is the Star Official of the Hairy Head Star; does the Great Saint know him?"

Vilanpo Bodhisattva asked.

Sun Wukong nodded: "Of course, I know him."

The Star Official of the Hairy Head Star is one of the Twenty-Eight Constellations, also known as the Rooster. He had attended his banquet in the Heavenly Palace, and they had had a fight during the commotion in the Heavenly Palace.

Back then, the Twenty-Eight Constellations had deployed the Star Map. Sun Wukong struck it down with his cudgel, and they lost contact thereafter.

"My son wishes to join under the Great Saint's banner, and I have come to speak on his behalf."

Vilanpo Bodhisattva stated.

"That's no trouble at all."

Sun Wukong smiled: "Just tell him to come over."

Regardless of whether they were friends or foes before, he welcomed anyone who sincerely wished to join.

Vilanpo Bodhisattva smiled and nodded, didn't linger, and left after saying a few words.

Lady Rakshasa sent off the Bodhisattva, her curiosity piqued. The Bodhisattva was a Buddhist figure, so why would she have a son?

She saw Sun Wukong deep in thought, with a contemplative expression.

Does the Great King have the same thoughts as I do?

Lady Rakshasa asked: "What is the Great King thinking about?"

"The Star Official of the Hairy Head Star is a rooster."

Sun Wukong replied unconsciously: "I thought the Bodhisattva was..."

He stopped mid-sentence; the remark was inappropriate and unspeakable.
