The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 117: More Like a Martial God Than Me

The Arhats flew to the wilderness, doubting if they had come to the wrong place, when they saw countless golden halos on the ground, trapping the Immortals within.

*The two of them were secretly alarmed and heard someone on the ground calling to them.*

"Over here, over here!"

Lady Earth Flow saw them and happily shouted, "Quickly, help us break the barrier!"

The Arhats immediately descended, casting spells to try and shatter the barrier.

"Waste of effort."

In the distance, the Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy watched this scene, unable to suppress his thoughts.

*He had already been pounding the barrier for half a day with his rake, and it remained unscathed.*

*If he couldn't break these barriers with his skills, how could those Arhats possibly succeed?*

The Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy turned his head and noticed some Immortals digging tunnels inside the barrier.

"Give up."

He glanced at them and said, "I've already tried digging, it's useless!"

*He had probed with his rake, discovering that this barrier was a sealed golden energy orb, with halo barriers underground as well, leaving no gaps.*

"You'd better wait obediently for the Great Saint to return."

He sighed looking at the sky, "You don't know the power of the Great Saint. It's already a blessing that he didn't strip us of our immortal power."

Many Heavenly Soldiers and Generals nodded in agreement, deeply convinced.

When Sun Wukong caused havoc in the Heavenly Palace years ago, he had stripped countless Immortals of their power. It took them twenty years of cultivation in the Map of Ten Thousand Gods to recover. This time, their immortal power not disappearing was already a blessing from heaven.

Meanwhile, a thousand miles away in the West Sea, Sun Wukong stopped the pursuit.

*His speed was extremely fast, with hardly anyone in the world able to escape his pursuit.*

Yet Gouchen had done it. When Sun Wukong reached the West Sea, he found the sea vast and boundless, but the figure of Gouchen had vanished.

*He had been tracking Gouchen all along; it was impossible for Gouchen to disappear without reason. Gouchen must be hiding somewhere.*

"Moang!"

Sun Wukong summoned Ao Moang.

"Great Saint, what brings you here?"

Ao Moang was somewhat surprised.

"Has anyone hidden in the West Sea?"

Sun Wukong asked.

Ao Moang shook his head, "No."

He was managing the West Sea for the Dragon King; if anyone had hidden in the sea, he would naturally have discovered them.

"Send someone to investigate carefully."

Sun Wukong was not convinced and had Ao Moang start searching.

Gouchen definitely had not gone far, so Sun Wukong sat cross-legged on the sea's surface, monitoring the entire West Sea, ready to detect any stir at any moment.

Ao Moang mobilized all the dragon sons and grandsons, crab warriors and generals of the West Sea Dragon Palace to search for several hours, but to no avail.

*"How is it possible!"*

Sun Wukong was extremely puzzled.

*How could Emperor Gouchen just vanish suddenly?*

*Aside from the vast sea, could there possibly be any other hiding place?*

"Let's try this!"

Sun Wukong got up, the Jingu Bang in his hand radiating dazzling light.

"Break for me!"

Sun Wukong swung the long stick, and in an instant, windstorms raged and golden light tore apart all the Immortal Technique barriers ahead.

The next moment, a floating island appeared in the clear sky.

"What is this!"

Ao Moang was stunned. He had never seen this island before.

Sun Wukong looked at the island, seemingly seeing countless realms shift and countless creations and destructions.

But these scenes vanished in an instant.

The white-clad Gouchen took out a map and collected the island, standing aloft in the sky.

Behind him were countless Immortals.

"You all may go."

Gouchen put away the scroll, waved his hand to the back, and said.

He urged the Immortals to leave, surprising them greatly, "Your Majesty."

"You are no match for him."

Gouchen said.

The number of Immortals, however large, was meaningless in front of Sun Wukong.

The Immortals' expressions changed several times, but in the end, they bowed and flew toward the distance.

Sun Wukong had no intention of letting them leave. His figure instantly turned into golden light, drawing an arc in the sky, trying to intercept their path.

"Great Saint, why make things difficult for them!"

A white shadow appeared like a ghost in front of Sun Wukong.

"I am your true opponent."

Gouchen produced a heavy sword.

"Jingu Bang!"

Sun Wukong didn't hesitate, wielding the stick downwards.

The Jingu Bang, with a sharp whistling sound, slashed toward Gouchen.

Gouchen squinted his eyes, the heavy sword vibrating as he blocked the Jingu Bang without dodging.

"Clang"—two immense forces clashed, producing a roar that could tear through the air. The ears of the Immortals seemed to be pierced, hastening their flight to safety.

With a "boom," Sun Wukong on the sea surface was struck by a tremendous impact, rolling a few times in the air before stabilizing.

Gouchen also gained no advantage, struck away by the fierce impact of the Jingu Bang, his hand trembling on the heavy sword, nearly unable to hold onto it.

*Both were startled.*

"So powerful!"

*Sun Wukong marveled in his heart.*

*Although it was merely a probing move, the strength Gouchen displayed was second only to the Tathāgata.*

"Great Saint, you're injured. Do you still want to continue this meaningless struggle?"

Gouchen said in a deep voice. Though Sun Wukong's power was unfathomable, it was clearly still a distance from what he had heard.

*He noticed Sun Wukong's abnormal state.*

Sun Wukong indeed was injured; the recent explosion had severely wounded him. Although he appeared to have returned to normal, his Immortal Body was not yet healed.

"It's nothing."

Sun Wukong watched as those Immortals flew far, suddenly releasing countless rays of golden light from his body, flying out in all directions.

"Clone Technique?"

Gouchen furrowed his brow slightly, then raised the heavy sword. After a horizontal sweep, countless sword lights turned into cold gleams and poured out, intertwining with the golden light.

In an instant, thunderous roars echoed through the sky, light points flickering continuously.

Sun Wukong frowned slightly, watching those Immortals escape successfully.

"Come back."

With a command, the countless golden rays flew back to him and disappeared.

The countless sword lights also vanished with them.

"Emperor Gouchen's reputation is indeed well-deserved."

Sun Wukong complimented Gouchen Heavenly Venerate.

Since the havoc at the Heavenly Palace, he hadn't encountered such a formidable opponent.

"Great Saint."

Ao Moang finally understood some of the situations and hurriedly stepped forward, trying to mediate.

He knew Sun Wukong inherited the Jade Seal from the Jade Emperor and was one-third of a Heavenly Venerate, but who was Gouchen? He was a true Heavenly Venerate with a complete Jade Seal, his cultivation likely far surpassing Sun Wukong's.

Moreover, as the Martial God wielding power over armaments, Sun Wukong couldn't gain the upper hand.

"Why not let it end here!"

Ao Moang advised.

Sun Wukong squinted his eyes slightly.

"Get out of my way."

Though injured, a Heavenly Venerate was not reason enough for him to back down.

"Your Majesty!"

Sun Wukong's eyes flared with golden light.

"Let's go again!"

He swung down the staff, conjuring a fierce storm between heaven and earth, carrying endless killing intent, surrounding Gouchen from all sides, leaving him nowhere to hide.

*"This guy looks more like a Martial God than me—"*

*Gouchen couldn't help but think.*
