The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 286: The Strongest in the Three Realms

Two days later, Sun Wukong brought Daji to visit Emperor Ziwei in the Heavenly Palace.

After Emperor Donghua left, it was Emperor Ziwei who managed the Immortal Records.

"What does the Great Saint seek from me?"

Emperor Ziwei called for a boy to pour tea and asked, "Unless Your Majesty orders it, I will not hand over the Immortal Records to you."

"Of course."

Sun Wukong nodded: "I want to borrow Zhang Lu's Second Division to construct an Immortal Mountain for me."

Emperor Ziwei's mind spun and he understood.

"Does the Great Saint wish to establish the Wanling Immortal Path on Kunlun Mountain?"

"Not the Immortal Path."

Sun Wukong replied: "It's the Wanling Immortal Sect."

Emperor Ziwei nodded.

"There is no difficulty in that."

He agreed: "I will immediately have someone seek out Zhang Lu's Second Division. The Great Saint may descend to the Lower Realm to choose a fine mountain."

"Good will."

Sun Wukong finished his tea, stood up, and said to Daji: "Let's go."

"Oh."

Daji smiled at the surrounding Immortal Officials, who all felt a bit weak at the knees.

"Immortals are not so extraordinary after all."

Upon leaving Emperor Ziwei's palace, Daji said to Sun Wukong: "Your Majesty should take me to find Zhang Lu's Second Division; I could command them."

"Stop messing around."

Sun Wukong tapped her on the head.

"I'm doing this for your own good!"

Daji covered her head and spoke, "That Emperor Ziwei was on guard against you the whole time."

"That's to be expected."

Sun Wukong laughed.

He had status but not much clout in the Eastern Continent. As long as Emperor Ziwei did not obstruct him, that was sufficient.

Even the Jade Emperor's treatment in Wanling Country was not better than his; reportedly, he still hasn't found any work.

Sun Wukong took Daji to Kunlun Mountain.

Daji looked at the countless Floating Immortal Mountains in the sky, her eyes sparkling with excitement: "How magnificent!"

"Mm."

Sun Wukong nodded.

Thousands of Floating Immortal Mountains indeed presented a spectacular view.

"Your Majesty, is the cultivation of the Three Thousand Immortal Paths also done with Spiritual Energy?"

Daji continued to ask.

"No."

Sun Wukong shook his head, as the Three Thousand Immortal Paths did not rely so heavily on Spiritual Energy.

There were many ways to achieve immortality, such as Merit Immortality, Alchemy, Artifact Refining, and so on.

"There is a Scripture Pavilion in Kunlun Mountain; when you have the chance, you can go in and learn about the Three Thousand Immortal Paths."

Sun Wukong said.

Daji nodded.

The two wove through the mountains when The Matchmaking God spotted them and flew over spontaneously.

"Great Saint."

The Matchmaking God spoke heartily, "Since you're passing by, why not stop at my place for a while?"

"Not now."

Sun Wukong declined, "I need to find a Daoist training ground."

"A Daoist training ground?"

The Matchmaking God offered to help and started looking with him.

"By the way, Great Saint."

Along the way, The Matchmaking God suddenly asked, "I haven't been to Wanling Country in thirty years; how is my disciple doing?"

"Disciple?"

Sun Wukong looked at Daji.

Daji knew who The Matchmaking God was referring to and nodded her head.

"He should be doing well."

Sun Wukong spoke, "I've slept for so long and still don't know much about it."

The Matchmaking God laughed at this, his embarrassment clear.

"Look at me, I forgot about that."

He hastily apologized to Sun Wukong.

The three of them searched along the way and after half a day, Sun Wukong finally found a mountain peak that he was satisfied with.

"This mountain is not bad."

He picked a picturesque peak.

"Indeed, it's suitable for a Daoist training ground."

The Matchmaking God agreed.

Soon after, Zhang Lu's Second Division flew down.

"Great Saint."

The two people paid their respects to Sun Wukong.

"No need for excessive formalities."

Sun Wukong pointed at the mountain peak and said, "Please transform this mountain into an Immortal Mountain."

"Very well."

The two Immortals immediately called upon the Mountain God and began to transform the mountain peak.

Sun Wukong and the other two stood aside, watching.

Moments later, Sun Wukong felt a sudden urge and walked alone into the forest.

"What do you seek from me?"

He asked into the seemingly empty space.

"Great Saint."

The figure of an old demon emerged.

He bowed to Sun Wukong and said, "My Great King wishes for the Great Saint to pay a visit to the Demon Kingdom."

"Demon Kingdom?"

A flash of golden light twinkled in Sun Wukong's eyes: "So you serve the Six-Eared Macaque."

He continued, "Those of different paths do not plan together."

The old demon was taken aback.

"If he wishes to turn conflict into a friendly alliance, let him give up eating humans and come find me," Sun Wukong said, not at all interested in visiting a place where people were eaten.

"This matter is not urgent; upon your return, have your Great King consider it carefully," Sun Wukong added.

The old demon grew fearful: "Great Saint, as fellow demons, why can you not accept eating humans?"

Sun Wukong looked at him: "It is a bad custom."

He originally thought that demons choosing to eat humans was simply a matter of preference, but now it seemed to him nothing more than a barbaric bad custom.

After the old demon left, Daji approached him.

"Who was that?"

She asked.

"Someone from the Demon Kingdom."

Sun Wukong glanced at her and asked, "Daji, if someone asked you to eat humans, would you do it?"

"Eat humans?"

Daji was startled: "What's there to like about eating human flesh? It's disgusting!"

Her response, as though it were a matter of course, assured Sun Wukong.

Zhang Lu and his second rank would still need some time to finish the construction of the Immortal Mountain.

Sun Wukong bid farewell to The Matchmaking God, then left Kunlun Mountain with Daji.

"Great King, where shall we go next?"

Daji asked.

"To visit various countries."

Sun Wukong replied.

Daji was stunned: "What for?"

"To build the Spiritual Network."

Sun Wukong used a spell, and thousands of clones flew out from his body.

"Go!"

At his command, numerous streaks of golden light flew toward every corner of the Eastern Continent.

Daji watched the scene in a daze.

"Why use clones?"

"It's faster this way."

Sun Wukong seized Daji and sped up his cloud travel.

He wished to complete the Spiritual Network construction in the Eastern Continent as quickly as possible.

Elsewhere, the old demon returned to the Royal Palace.

"I already know."

The Six-Eared Macaque spoke before the report: "We are bound to confront that Sun Wukong eventually."

The old demon sighed.

Demons from the Four Great Continents made up the Eastern Continent, all unwilling to accept the system of Wanling Country; having traveled great distances to this place, how could they easily give up eating humans.

"Great King, why did the Great Saint come here?"

The old demon wondered, "Why has he suddenly stopped fighting with the Jade Emperor?"

"Not that he has stopped fighting, but rather he has changed the means of conflict."

The Six-Eared Macaque replied, "He seeks coexistence with the Jade Emperor, jointly managing the Three Great Continents. In a hundred years, whoever has made greater contributions will ascend to the rank of Great Heavenly Venerable."

The old demon was shocked: "But how will those contributions be judged?"

"Merit, followers, grand achievements... even I cannot judge them."

The Six-Eared Macaque answered, "Nevertheless, when the time comes, they will naturally be able to calculate it."

Nothing in this world couldn't be calculated with Sun Wukong and the Jade Emperor working together.

"This is a struggle for imperial power."

The Six-Eared Macaque said.

The old demon inhaled deeply, feeling a profound respect for Sun Wukong from the bottom of his heart.

Though Sun Wukong had different views from theirs, he was indeed the strongest demon in all the Three Realms – this was undeniable.
