The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 301: Pure Land

In the Northern Continent, there exists a Treasure Pond vast as the sea.

Buddha stands by the pool, a Black Lotus falling from his fingertips, drifting down upon a lotus seat, sinking into the waters.

This is no ordinary water but Merit Water, with eight distinct properties.

The Black Lotus dissolved in the water, never to be found again before it even reaches the golden sands of the pond's bottom.

"This is indeed what Amitabha's will has been anticipating."

Buddha spoke with joy brimming in his heart.

Behind him, various Buddhas and Bodhisattvas stood on stairs made of gold, silver, crystal, and glass.

They all wore faces of delight.

"Buddha."

The Eastern Buddha stepped forward and asked, "What is this Black Lotus?"

He remembered Sun Wukong mentioning a Black Lotus, which seemed to be the one just used by Buddha to test the Seven Treasures Pool.

"We must not speak of this matter."

Buddha turned around, saying, "You only need to know, it no longer poses a threat to us."

The Eastern Buddha did not further inquire.

Manjusri Bodhisattva then stepped forward: "Buddha, will the people of the Rebirth Pure Land be born from this pool?"

"It is indeed so."

Buddha nodded.

There are many lotus flowers in the Seven Treasures Pool, large as carriage wheels, but the Pure Land is not yet created, and no one has been born from the lotuses.

"Today we shall create the Pure Land."

Buddha's gaze swept over the multitude of Buddhas, brows slightly furrowed: "Why has the Guanyin Venerable not come?"

"Today the Great Saint is holding an Immortal Banquet on Kunlun Mountain."

The Eastern Buddha said, "Guanyin Venerable has gone there to observe."

"Guanyin Venerable has made great contributions to the Pure Land."

Buddha sighed, "It's just that her manifestations are constantly abroad, which is not a good sign."

The Eastern Buddha might not know about the Black Lotus, but understood what Buddha was sighing about.

"Buddha, there's no need to worry about Guanyin Venerable's affection for Wanling. "

He smiled and said, "Buddhist Law is boundless, she will naturally resolve the dual-mindedness."

Buddha nodded.

"Let it be, then. Let her go."

Buddha turned to look at the Seven Treasures Pool.

Once today passes and Pure Land is formed, even if Wanling Country develops further, it won't perturb Guanyin anymore.

"I have found the answer."

Buddha thought of Sun Wukong, wondering when he would catch up.

Wanling Immortal Sect.

The Immortals are reveling at the banquet.

The Water Moon Fairy left her table, finding Daji in a room: "Why aren't you going out?"

"Too many people."

Daji lay on a bed reading a book, saying, "It's not interesting."

Having lost her novelty for the Immortals, she had no desire to put on a performance, choosing instead to hide away quietly.

"But today, it seems the Great Saint has something to say."

The Water Moon Fairy said, "Aren't you curious?"

"I don't have to go to know what he will say."

Daji read on with glee, her tail wagging.

The Water Moon Fairy eyed her fluffy tail, feeling a surge to grab it.

Resisting the impulse, she asked, "What is the Great Saint going to say?"

"Of course, it's about Wanling Immortal Path."

Daji turned to glance at the Water Moon Fairy: "Why does the Great King invite those Immortals to Wanling Country?"

"Naturally, for the exchange."

The Water Moon Fairy replied, "After exchange, coexistence is possible."

"Incorrect, incorrect, the Great King is not so petty."

Daji sat up, putting down the book, "The Great King has greater expectations for those Immortals."

The Water Moon Fairy frowned slightly.

"What do you mean?"

"You don't know, Fairy?"

Daji felt somewhat pleased; the Water Moon Fairy had always been smarter, but now Daji had a moment of acumen.

"The Great King established Wanling Country, and all his actions thus far have been to let mortals master Immortal technology," said Daji.

The Water Moon Fairy was momentarily puzzled, but soon grasped the point.

"So that's it."

Water Moon Fairy pondered within her heart, having reached this stage.

Sun Wukong's transformation of the Mortal World was already complete, or at least — it had entered a stable developmental trajectory.

But the transformation of the Immortals had not truly begun.

In the grand hall of the Immortal Sect, the Immortals were fully satiated and quenched.

"What could the Immortals do with it if the Wanling Immortal Path becomes the Heavenly Dao?"

Sun Wukong suddenly asked.

The Immortals were startled and all turned to look.

"Great Saint, can you create the Heavenly Dao?"

Sun Wukong shook his head: "Not yet completed."

He was still absorbing knowledge from the Scripture Pavilion, and should be able to do so once he had absorbed it all.

The Immortals immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

"Great Saint, the Heavenly Dao cannot be forced."

"If the Wanling Immortal Path becomes the Heavenly Dao…"

They thought about it, finding it somewhat unimaginable.

"Perhaps…"

"You all could do anything."

Sun Wukong answered for them.

If mortals can use the Wanling Immortal Path to transform the earth, then the Immortals holding the same techniques and knowledge could naturally do even more.

If those techniques and knowledge were further improved, there might be nothing within the Three Realms that the Immortals couldn't do.

"Great Saint, do you want us to learn the Immortal Dao?"

The Matchmaking God asked.

Sun Wukong nodded.

For the further development of the Wanling Immortal Path, the power of the Immortals was indispensable.

"Everyone's Immortal Law..."

Sun Wukong had not finished speaking when suddenly his expression changed, and he left the grand hall.

The Immortals also sensed something amiss and followed him out.

They all cast their gazes towards the Northern Continent.

There, a giant Buddha Light rose.

That Buddha Light seemed capable of illuminating the Three Great Continents.

"What is that…"

The Immortals were shocked.

"A Pure Land."

Sun Wukong said.

He had not anticipated the Buddha's speed to be so rapid.

"Hmm?"

Sun Wukong suddenly felt something was wrong, he swiftly flew high into the sky, two beams of golden light shot forth from his eyes towards the Northern Continent.

That no longer hidden divine light instantly drew out the Heavenly Palace's Immortals who had not attended the banquet, they crowded on the clouds to spectate.

However, in just a moment, Sun Wukong retracted his divine light and flew back to the Immortal Sect.

"Great Saint."

The Matchmaking God and the other Immortals crowded around: "Did you discover anything?"

"The Wanling Immortal Path…"

Sun Wukong replied: "The combination of Buddhist Law and Immortal Dao, rebuilding the Northern Continent."

He felt two emotions deep within.

One was astonishment, the other, joy.

The Buddha was reconstructing the Northern Continent, and within that Pure Land, traces of the Wanling Immortal Path were to be found.

That could not be said to be the Wanling Immortal Path, but at the least, it derived from Immortal Dao.

Sun Wukong had never thought that the Buddha, whom he believed would be quite stubborn, was the one most adept at absorbing changes.

"The Buddha has moved ahead of us."

Sun Wukong looked towards the Immortals.

Observing his glowing eyes, the Immortals once again looked towards the Northern Continent.

That never-extinguishing Buddha Light, was the most vivid proof, proving the value of transformation to the Three Realms.

Some Immortals started to realize what Sun Wukong wanted to do.

"Even mortals can run forward."

The Deity of the Moon stepped forward, leaning on her walking stick, and said to Sun Wukong: "If the Great Saint doesn't disdain an old body like mine, I am willing to serve."

"Great Saint."

The rest of the Immortals came to their senses and one by one, paid their respects to Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong hoped to lead them to discover more wisdom and power, the Immortals rejoiced for this.

Sun Wukong was also in high spirits.

With the help of the Immortals, he could uncover the secrets of the heavens and earth, and even halt the cycle of the great calamity of reincarnation, and find that answer.
