The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 316: Not an Illusion

The Six-Eared Macaque arrived abruptly and left just as suddenly.

He did not bring any reply to Sun Wukong, but left many doubts instead.

Soon after, an unexpected visitor found Sun Wukong.

"Immortal, how did you come over here?"

Sun Wukong hosted Immortal Zhenyuan at the Scripture Pavilion.

"Recently, a group of demons have been causing trouble in the Western Continent."

The things spoken by Immortal Zhenyuan surprised Sun Wukong.

Lately, some strange demons appeared in the Western Continent, either claiming mountains as their kings or causing disturbances in cities; they not only practiced Sorcery but also mastered the Wanling Immortal Path, causing considerable trouble for Ao Luan and others.

After investigation by the Great Emperor, it was found that these demons had escaped from the Demon Kingdom.

"Escaped?"

Sun Wukong found this choice of words rather peculiar.

"Yes, escaped."

Immortal Zhenyuan nodded, "Recently the Six-Eared Macaque seems to have gone mad; it's as if he wants to popularize Buddhist Law in the Demon Kingdom, which many demons couldn't stand, so they left the Demon Kingdom."

"Buddhist Law?"

Sun Wukong found it unbelievable.

The Six-Eared Macaque didn't respond to him; instead, he started propagating Buddhist Law, which was such an absurd act.

"Was he brainwashed by the Buddha?"

Sun Wukong thought, no wonder the Six-Eared Macaque seemed odd that day.

"Could the Six-Eared Macaque have done this on purpose?"

He continued to ask.

Immortal Zhenyuan nodded, they couldn't rule out such a possibility.

Sun Wukong then commented, "I'll handle this matter."

Immortal Zhenyuan had anticipated Sun Wukong's response and laughed, "Young brother, can you leave some troubles for us?"

Sun Wukong paused, "Why?"

"You shouldn't interfere in this matter. The demons of the Demon Kingdom see you as a traitor of the Demon Clan; your interference might only provoke more outrage among the demons."

Immortal Zhenyuan paused then continued, "On the other hand, Wanling Country can't rely on you for everything, you care for them too much."

Wanling Country, occupying a vast territory much larger than the Demon Kingdom, naturally has the confidence to deal with the escaped demons.

Sun Wukong thought it made sense; he had always been worried about the Buddhist actions in Wanling Country, and having the people of Wanling Country too relaxed might not be a good thing as some internal pressure is crucial for consolidating thoughts.

But he stared at Immortal Zhenyuan for a long time: "What else?"

There had to be other reasons for Immortal Zhenyuan's special visit.

"Smart fellow..."

Immortal Zhenyuan murmured to himself, then said, "Come with me."

He stood up and took Sun Wukong out of the Scripture Pavilion.

Sun Wukong immediately noticed the airship floating amongst the clouds.

Below this airship, ripples of Spiritual Energy undulated, yet the hull remained motionless, fixed amidst the mist like a work of art.

"Technology has advanced again."

Sun Wukong couldn't help but praise.

Previous airships did not have the ability to hover in mid-air, which, although it seems simple, is extremely difficult to achieve, involving a complete overhaul of the entire propulsion system.

Immortal Zhenyuan became proud: "The improvements are not just superficial."

He called out to the airship, "Let my young brother see the power of this airship!"

Shortly after his words fell, a dazzling beam of light shot out from the airship, blasting towards Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong waved his hand, and the beam exploded in midair, its shockwave dispersing the clouds around for miles.

"Very powerful."

Sun Wukong's eyes sharpened.

This was the airship's hover cannon, firing the Wanling Immortal Path; from its power, just a few shots could raze a small city.

Sun Wukong's gaze swept over the airship, and on one side alone, he saw dozens of cannon ports.

"How about it, what do you think of my new invention?"

Immortal Zhenyuan spoke with delight, "I've always wanted to use it to bombard the lairs of demons, but unfortunately, there hasn't been a chance."

Now that there were troublemaking demons around, he naturally didn't want Sun Wukong to steal his prey.

Sun Wukong's feelings were mixed.

The installation of cannons on the airship occurred after the invasion of Wanling City by the Immortals and Buddhist.

Sun Wukong knew about this matter while he was asleep, but he had never paid much attention to it; now seeing the firepower of the spaceship, he was not sure whether to be happy or distressed.

However, this was ultimately a path, and Sun Wukong should not obstruct it.

After some thought, he asked the most important key question: "Is General Guo Shen still alive?"

This question caught Immortal Zhen Yuan off guard, and he quickly fell silent.

"He... passed away peacefully..."

After a long while, Immortal Zhen Yuan said.

Sun Wukong was relieved: "It seems he is still alive."

Immortal Zhen Yuan clicked his tongue, turning his gaze towards the girl who flew out from the spaceship.

"That is the captain of the Owl."

He said.

The Owl, naturally, was the original owl.

It had transformed into a human, and the biggest difference from ordinary people was its pair of large eyes; golden pupils in black irises, yet devoid of much emotion.

"Great King."

The Owl paid respects to Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong looked at her, who seemed much colder than before.

"What happened?"

While talking to the Owl, Sun Wukong also used telepathy to inquire about the situation from Immortal Zhen Yuan.

How did a perfectly fine owl turn into a cold beauty? And she even became a captain.

"Immortal Master Erlang rejected her."

Immortal Zhen Yuan answered.

Her years of unrequited love had not bloomed, and the passion of the Owl had extinguished.

"Has she let go?"

Sun Wukong continued to ask.

"If she had let go, she wouldn't be here."

Immortal Zhen Yuan chuckled heartily, Immortal Master Erlang does not fancy delicate women, he prefers someone who can fight him.

Upon learning this, the owl shifted from scholar to warrior.

"She's doing quite well."

Immortal Zhen Yuan commented.

Being commended by him, this owl must have considerable combat prowess.

Sun Wukong probed a bit and also saw an unwilling fighting spirit in the Owl's eyes.

"So be it."

He made a decision.

Although war seemed unimportant to Wanling Country, the development of anything always progresses, and perhaps this was a good opportunity to experiment.

Sun Wukong agreed to disregard the demons.

But he kept a thought in mind.

"If the Six-Eared Macaque causes trouble, I still need to take action."

Sun Wukong said this.

The power of the Six-Eared Macaque was second only to the Heavenly Venerate; adding its inherent talent to listen, capturing him would be difficult without Sun Wukong's help.

After keeping this thought, Sun Wukong no longer concerned himself with the affairs of the Demon Kingdom.

He returned to the Scripture Pavilion, continuing to study the Wanling Immortal Path.

The open and secret strife between Wanling Country and the Demon Kingdom continued, fighting for many years without stopping.

During this period, Buddhist forces also entered Wanling Country, stirring up some strange incidents. Sun Wukong was tempted to interfere, but ultimately chose someone else.

He sent the little Phoenix to the spaceship.

"I have nothing more to teach you, go help Sister Ao Luan."

Sun Wukong said, stroking the little Phoenix's head, trusting that Ao Luan would make use of the little Phoenix's powers.

This little demon was more exceptional than anyone he had taught.

The little Phoenix was reluctant to leave, but eventually obeyed and left.

As she departed, Sun Wukong directed his gaze towards the sky.

Compared to a few years ago, the sky had darkened a bit.

Mortals could not perceive such subtle changes, but Sun Wukong could confirm.

It was not his illusion.
