The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 353: The Doctrine of the Heavenly Taoist Sect

Sun Wukong returned to Huaguo Mountain.

A grand banquet was held in Yunxiao City, where all Wanling people gathered together.

Everyone was delighted, still buzzing with voices deep into the night, reluctant to leave.

"Seeing everyone return, my heart is filled with joy."

Sun Wukong found Water Virtues Star Monarch and said, "These two hundred years, I must trouble you all again."

"Rest assured, Great Saint."

The immortals smiled, "We who created Wanling can surely rebuild it."

"Speaking of which, Great Saint."

Suddenly, Water Virtues Star Monarch asked, "How will you resolve the matter with the Jade Emperor?"

"No need to resolve it."

Sun Wukong answered, "Fifty years of rest would be quite rare for him."

He remembered Zhang Yu, whom he had once seen on Kunlun Mountain.

Without the constraints of the Heavenly Emperor, the Jade Emperor might live a happier and freer life.

"After fifty years, I will bring him back."

Sun Wukong continued, "The Wanling Heavenly Dao does not conflict with the Three Thousand Immortal Paths."

The immortals felt relieved; they had long known that Sun Wukong would not harm the Jade Emperor.

However, not hearing the answer firsthand inevitably caused some unease.

"Brother, come drink a few cups with me."

At this time, Immortal Zhenyuan came over with a wine pot.

Sun Wukong noticed seven shy girls behind him: "You found them?"

"Not hard to find."

Immortal Zhenyuan replied and then asked, "Did you meet Mrs. White Bone?"

"I did."

Sun Wukong nodded.

The White Bone Demon returned to Huaguo Mountain, and because she did not receive Sun Wukong's immortal power, she seemed unwilling to transform into a demon, causing many to worry.

After Sun Wukong's return, he gave her a divine light, which might awaken her soon.

"Great Immortal, why do you suddenly ask about her?"

Sun Wukong was curious about why Immortal Zhenyuan was interested in Mrs. White Bone.

Before Zhenyuan could answer, shouting came from afar.

"Overthrow Lingshan, reclaim Wanling! Drive away the Buddha, save our brethren!"

Someone yelled standing on a table.

He seemed drunk; his loud shout led many demons and humans to start shouting along.

"These words should not be spoken carelessly."

Immortal Zhenyuan's expression darkened, as he wanted to stop it.

"No harm."

Sun Wukong stopped him: "If Lingshan is annoyed, I'll bear it."

He was not afraid of Lingshan at all,

This rare opportunity allowed these awakened ones to vent.

Sun Wukong watched their crying and laughing faces, only when drunk could he see the most genuine side of these people.

The place they missed was Wanling Country, not Huaguo Mountain.

People laughed, cried, and sang; the night passed in this way.

By the next day, they were once again filled with confidence and took up their posts at work.

Sun Wukong found the Grandmaster.

"How about the matters of the Underworld?"

The Grandmaster asked.

"It has ended."

Sun Wukong briefed the situation in the Underworld and said, "Emperor Donghua will help me oversee the Underworld from now on, and no major issues will arise."

"That's good."

The Grandmaster nodded.

"Master, the so-called Heavenly Dao cannot be without doctrines."

Sun Wukong suddenly said.

The Grandmaster was slightly startled: "What are you thinking of doing?"

"Establishing the doctrines of the Wanling Sect."

Sun Wukong bowed his hands: "I ask for Master's help."

"That is possible."

The Grandmaster nodded: "Ultimately, what do you aspire to achieve with your Wanling Heavenly Dao?"

Sun Wukong thought for a long while and finally uttered four words.

"Great Unity under Heaven."

What he pursued was not merely these four words, yet they converged to the same path.

The phrase Great Unity under Heaven had appeared during the Warring States Period in the Southern Continent, known throughout the Four Great Continents as the supreme dream, the ideal world humanity could eventually reach.

"Indeed, something you would bring up."

Grandmaster praised Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong gave a bitter smile.

In some ways, he did not favor such classical phrases.

But the more well-known something is, the more effective it can be.

The goal of a harmonious world is simpler and easier to understand than benevolent governance.

"A harmonious world is the future, yet it lacks the process of getting there."

Grandmaster asked, "What is the path you wish to take?"

"Wanling Country."

Sun Wukong said.

Grandmaster looked at him in surprise.

"Wanling Country is the sole path towards a harmonious world."

Sun Wukong added.

His answer had already appeared in practice.

The combination of ideals and materialism is Wanling Country.

"The path of Wanling Country still needs research."

Grandmaster said, "Achieving a harmonious world is however far beyond reach."

Sun Wukong shook his head: "The path must be explored, it's unavoidable."

He paused: "At least now, I can ensure not to take the wrong path."

The knowledge and insights he gained from the Heavenly Book have already solved many future pathway issues.

Even afterwards, if he could obtain the power of the Heavenly Book, he could also find the correct path through deduction.

"You have the confidence, I will naturally cooperate."

Grandmaster nodded, agreeing to help Sun Wukong study the doctrines of Wanling Heavenly Dao.

"This will take time, Wukong..."

Grandmaster looked at Sun Wukong: "If you wish to propagate the Heavenly Dao in the future, you must first control a large continent."

"Which continent does Grandmaster choose?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"The Northern Continent is the definitive choice."

Grandmaster said without hesitation: "The Great Emperor Zhēnwǔ has not regained his memory and is still there; you should be able to persuade him to surrender."

Sun Wukong nodded.

"But we cannot only do this."

Grandmaster continued: "You should show yourself as a human, perhaps start with human clan followers."

"Followers?"

Sun Wukong realized, it was true, he had many followers in the Four Great Continents, yet he rarely utilized their power.

Belief is something all immortals and gods cherish, even using it as the source of their immortal power.

Sun Wukong is naturally intelligent, and in fact, has never relied on this kind of power.

The only merit he relied upon was more auxiliary than dependent.

"How to change the followers?"

Sun Wukong asked the Grandmaster.

"With your vast divine skills, simply transform those monkey images into human images."

Grandmaster said: "This way, you can quickly expand your followers."

Sun Wukong thought so too, and immediately set off.

He had never utilized the power of faith, so he still needed to find his way in isolation.

This retreat aroused curiosity.

"Great Saint is already so powerful, why then transform into a human form?"

Some demons did not understand.

"Many of the world's immortals and gods are not in human form; my original form is a wolf, yet I must transform into a human form every day."

Star Monarch Kuimu said: "Practicing in human form is a hundred times more convenient and easily attracts the faith of followers."

Sun Wukong transformed into a human form for the sake of all beings in the Three Realms; there was no issue with that.

However, although the human form is easy for people to adapt to, it's merely adaptation; accepting Sun Wukong's human form as the Heavenly Emperor was a very difficult matter.
