The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 365: Cruelty

East Sea, the Dragon Palace City is resplendent with light.

Not far from Dragon Light City, seven Spider Demons were busy painting on the faces of Gouchen God and Huangjiao Great Immortal.

"I endure... endure..."

Gouchen was pinned under a mountain, unable to move, and could only close his eyes, remaining unresponsive like a rock.

Huangjiao Great Immortal, on the other hand, was laughing heartily, seeming not to care at all.

Only when the Spider Demons tired of their game did they leave behind two seashell-shaped boxes and departed on their colorful bubbles.

"You really can endure."

Gouchen opened his eyes and said to Huangjiao Great Immortal.

"These demons aren't bad."

Huangjiao Great Immortal said, taking a breath, and skillfully sucked the box in front of him to his lips, opened it, and ate what was inside.

"At least we don't have to eat seaweed anymore."

He said so.

Gouchen's face darkened: "Don't let the demons confuse your mind."

Huangjiao Great Immortal shook his head: "Can't I find some fun?"

"That's not any sort of fun..."

Gouchen hadn't finished speaking when he suddenly startled, realizing that an outsider had appeared.

"Sun Wukong."

Gouchen's voice sounded somewhat somber.

Sun Wukong appeared at the bottom of the sea at some point, looking at him calmly.

"Are you here to humiliate me?"

Gouchen asked, "Were those seven Spider Demons arranged by you?"

"If I wanted to humiliate you, I wouldn't have sealed this place."

Sun Wukong responded.

Gouchen was at once speechless.

The Dragon Palace City was nearby, they watched as it was built, bustling with people, yet no one ever came here to mock them.

This mountain was personally declared by Sun Wukong as a forbidden area, where only the fearless Spider Demons dared to come for amusement.

Gouchen took a deep breath.

"So what are you here for? To strip me of my Immortal Position?"

He probed: "You've made no moves this past year, it must have been what you were researching, right?"

Sun Wukong gave a slight smile.

He had indeed earnestly researched the War God's Immortal Position for the better part of the year.

"I've found a way to strip you of your Immortal Position."

Sun Wukong said.

"Ha ha, how is that possible..."

Gouchen couldn't help but burst into laughter, but then he saw Sun Wukong stretch out his hand to reveal the Jade Seal.

The moment the dazzling Jade Seal appeared, Gouchen felt his strength start to fade.

"You..."

Gouchen could no longer laugh: "You've gained control of the Jade Seal?"

"Not yet."

Sun Wukong shook his head: "It just so happens that your Immortal Position aligns very well with me."

He was able to find the method to strip away Gouchen's Immortal Position so quickly because he himself was qualified for the role of War God.

The Immortal Position of the War God could easily be taken by him.

But Sun Wukong quickly withdrew the Jade Seal.

"I won't take on the role of War God."

He said: "It doesn't suit me."

Sun Wukong had initially thought the power of the War God was important, but in reality, this power overlapped with the Wanling Heavenly Dao.

"Strength through battle, I can achieve that too."

Sun Wukong stated: "Holding the Wanling Heavenly Dao, whether there's war or not, the Heavenly Dao will grow stronger through Wanling."

Gouchen, with a cold face, stopped talking.

Sun Wukong watched for a while, realizing that Gouchen remained as stubborn as ever, and lost interest in talking further.

He turned around to leave, when Huangjiao Immortal suddenly spoke: "Wait."

Sun Wukong turned his head to look at him.

After a long silence, Huangjiao Immortal said, "Next time, would you also talk to me?"

Each time Sun Wukong came, he focused his attention on Gouchen, leaving Huangjiao Immortal feeling inexplicably ignored.

"...Okay."

Sun Wukong nodded in agreement and then left the bottom of the sea.

Golden Cicada was waiting for him on the surface of the water, and immediately asked him as soon as he saw him.

"Why does the Great Saint care so much about Gouchen God?"

"That War God Immortal Position can help me confront the Three Realms' great calamity."

Sun Wukong answered, "Cultivating another one is far too difficult."

The more Sun Wukong understood the Jade Seal, the more he realized that changing some Immortal Positions was extremely difficult.

Immortal Positions demand very high personal requirements, just as you can't expect the Fire Virtue Star Monarch to do the job of the Water Virtues Star Monarch, and someone lacking the traits of a War God cannot assume the role.

Even if he were the Heavenly Emperor, cultivating a suitable War God would be too short a time in two hundred years.

"I will find a way."

Sun Wukong said. Gouchen was a general he must have.

But for now, he couldn't seem too eager.

Sun Wukong pulled the rope and flew back to Huaguo Mountain with Golden Cicada.

Outside the temples of Huaguo Mountain, thousands of demons were listening to Guang Hui elder's lecture.

Upon the arrival of Sun Wukong and Golden Cicada, elder Guang Hui immediately led these tense-looking demons to greet them.

These demons were neither from Huaguo Mountain nor from Wanling Country.

They were the subordinates of the Six-Eared Macaque.

Leading them were the Macaque King and several other Demon Kings.

"Past grudges, whether remembered or forgotten, I will give the chance to be wholly erased."

Sun Wukong opened his mouth and said, "You have been here for one year, living peacefully, and I am very pleased."

These demons were here because the Six-Eared Macaque no longer wished to establish a Demon Kingdom.

A year ago, the Six-Eared Macaque suddenly abandoned them and vanished without a trace. The now memory-restored Macaque King brought a group of demons to seek refuge with Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong left them to dry for one year, receiving education in temples, and now the time had come.

"To my subjects, you represent an unpleasant memory, which I cannot leave unpunished."

Sun Wukong unfolded the Wanling Map in the sky.

"Go forth, enter my Wanling Map, and you will forget all troubles."

Sun Wukong said: "I will strip you of your emotions and command you for fifty years. As compensation, you will learn part of the Wanling knowledge and become people of Wanling."

The demons looked at the Wanling Map in the sky with some reverence.

Although they had long heard that there would be such a requirement, seeing the Wanling Map still filled them with fear.

"If you refuse, you may leave."

Sun Wukong said, "I won't stop you, but if you return later, I won't give a second opportunity."

The demons shuddered inside.

"I, I'd better leave."

A Fox Demon couldn't help but run away.

Seeing this, several other demons also ran off.

Sun Wukong manipulated them in such a cruel way, they found it hard to believe.

Yet some demons stayed behind, reassured, only this Sun Wukong could instill in them the feeling of a Demon Emperor, only this could make them devoted to him.

"I'll go first."

The Macaque King led by example and flew into the Wanling Map.

He had not been happy in his little world, often envying the Bull Demon King and the others.

After a long lapse of years, the Macaque King realized while the Six-Eared Macaque's philosophy might favor demons more, his Divine Skills were still incomparable to Sun Wukong.

He chose a new path.

The remaining demons hesitated for a moment on the spot but then flew into the Wanling Map one after the other.

Demons are accustomed to following the strong. Regardless, Sun Wukong was the strongest demon in the Three Realms, and following him was better than living in constant fear and trepidation on the outside.
