The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 378: Buddhist Relics

The chaos of the Northern Continent has settled down.

The sky is crystal clear, with eight Qilins shuttling through the clouds, pulling the carriage flying towards the north.

"Brother, why hasn't Mother Houtu come with us?"

Ao Luan asked in the carriage.

That guy not clinging to Sun Wukong, instead, made her somewhat unaccustomed.

"Recently, she's been pestering Lord Lao Zi of the Great Monad."

Sun Wukong said: "She's very interested in the Wanling Net."

Ao Luan was stunned for a moment, somewhat surprised: "She likes the Wanling Net?"

"With that, she can order people around while lying in bed every day."

Sun Wukong said.

Ao Luan immediately understood.

She lifted the carriage curtain and could see some kneeling figures on the ground.

As the carriage progressed, all the people who saw it on the ground were now kneeling.

"This place is ours now."

Ao Luan thought to herself.

The Northern Continent now belongs to the Wanling Country.

At this moment at Wudang Mountain, tens of thousands of people stand at the foot of the mountain.

Amidst the crowded heads, different flags can be seen, representatives and monarchs of various nations converge here.

Sun Wukong's carriage descended from the sky, and with the protection of eight Qilins, it landed steadily on the ground.

Ao Luan and Sun Wukong stepped down from the carriage together.

"Heavenly Emperor!"

The dense crowd kneeled on the ground, praising the Heavenly Emperor.

It was an astonishing sight.

The unification of the Northern Continent, a feat not even achievable in a mortal's lifetime, was accomplished by Sun Wukong.

He and Ao Luan looked forward, with the Bull Demon King and Immortal Master Erlang standing there to greet them.

Several years had passed, Immortal Master Erlang hadn't changed much, but the Bull Demon King's demeanor had altered significantly.

Different from the period at Huaguo Mountain, after several years of warfare in the Northern Continent, the Bull Demon King's aura had reverted to that of a Demon Saint.

"Well done."

Sun Wukong complimented them.

Immortal Master Erlang and the Bull Demon King bowed in gratitude, behind them the demons and humans of Huaguo Mountain erupted in cheers.

Sun Wukong greeted the generals of various tribes, then raised his head, looking at Wudang.

Above Wudang Mountain, countless Heavenly Soldiers descended from the sky, landing at the foot of the mountain, lining up on both sides to welcome their master.

The True Martial Great Emperor came to the foot of the mountain, surrounded by a group of Immortal Officials.

"You've done it."

He said to Sun Wukong.

The Northern Continent, through vast and mighty changes. Now that devils submit and the Human Clan is unified, what a grand and magnificent deed.

"The Wanling Country has done it."

Sun Wukong replied.

"That's even more meaningful than what you described."

The True Martial Great Emperor stated.

He knew Sun Wukong had not spent much time in the Northern Continent, but precisely for this reason, it demonstrated the value of the Heavenly Dao.

According to the agreement, the True Martial Great Emperor should return to the Wanling Country.

"Heavenly Emperor."

With two words, he expressed his allegiance to Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong joyfully accepted.

The two together received the audience of the leaders from various nations of the Northern Continent.

It was merely a ceremony, symbolizing that from this moment on, the Northern Continent belonged to the Wanling Country.

Through the tedious rituals, Sweeping Star silently moved behind Sun Wukong.

"That child had an accident, and went to another continent."

She said softly.

Sun Wukong slightly nodded, the boy still needed tempering, he was not surprised.

The ceremony of the day was incredibly long, not only humans but thousands of Demon Kings from the Northern Continent came to kneel in worship.

Ao Luan stood beside Sun Wukong, watching each Demon King kneel in succession, as if witnessing a rebirth of the once great Wanling Country.

"Brother, we can unify the Three Realms."

Ao Luan had never been as certain as he was at this moment.

"I know."

Sun Wukong believed as well.

It's just that as he looked upon the Northern Continent, the unification of the Three Realms seemed easily within reach.

But things are often not as simple as they appear.

The chaos in the Northern Continent was nearing its end, yet the other Three Great Continents were increasingly mired in turmoil.

Over the course of two years, the Immortals had seized control of the other Three Great Continents. Not only was the Wanling Heavenly Dao unable to permeate, but even the statues of Sun Wukong erected in various places were destroyed.

The struggle in the Southern Continent became more intense, and the Immortals, failing to change the Human King, co-opted the civil and military officials of the Han Dynasty.

Sun Wukong had also planted some agents, but to little avail.

There were innumerable Immortals in Lingshan and the Heavenly Palace, and even spread across the nations of the Three Great Continents, they could maintain tight control over the human realm.

The people of Huaguo Mountain, for all their wisdom, were no match for these Immortals.

"Perhaps I should take a trip."

Sun Wukong thought to himself.

He had heard that Lingshan was preparing to make a move against the Crown Prince of the Southern Continent.

This Crown Prince was someone he had to protect; he had already sent Zhang Liang to the Southern Continent in advance.

Having grown up in Huaguo Mountain, as long as the Crown Prince encountered no issues, the Southern Continent should be spared from major disasters.

Aside from the Southern Continent, over these two years, Sun Wukong had also ascertained the thing that Buddha had been searching for.

"Buddhist sarira?"

After the ceremony, the Great Emperor Zhenwu and Sun Wukong strolled around Wudang.

He found it odd when he heard the item Sun Wukong mentioned: "Is Buddha pinning his hopes on the sarira?"

"Quite likely."

Sun Wukong stated.

Great Emperor Zhenwu grew even more curious: "Whose sarira is it?"

"It's the sarira of World Venerables of the Buddhist order left behind after they passed away in various places before the time of Buddha. There are eight in total."

Sun Wukong replied: "They are treasures of the Buddhist order that could provoke unforeseen events should they be reunited."

"What kind of events?"

Great Emperor Zhenwu asked again.

"I do not know."

Sun Wukong said: "Lingshan has already gathered six of them."

Great Emperor Zhenwu frowned slightly: "You didn't stop Buddha?"

"I tried to, but only the Buddhist order can find the sarira."

Sun Wukong said, noting that the movements of the Buddhist order were exceedingly secretive and challenging to detect.

Ao Luan once came across one, but due to the inability to distinguish its authenticity, it was snatched back by the Buddhist order.

Fortunately, the remaining two sarira are extremely hard to find; it seems even Buddha doesn't know where they are.

Sun Wukong placed great importance on these two sarira: "One of the seventh and eighth sarira is said to be left behind by a World Venerable from beyond the Three Realms."

Great Emperor Zhenwu was taken aback.

"Beyond the Three Realms?"

He found it somewhat inconceivable, furrowing his brows and pondering for a moment: "In that case, why don't you make a trip to Lingshan?"

Great Emperor Zhenwu spoke: "Between you and Buddha, who is stronger?"

"We are evenly matched."

Sun Wukong replied.

No one knew how strong Buddha was, but Sun Wukong was aware that Buddha was bound by laws and could not exert his power at will.

If he were to cause a disturbance in Lingshan, Buddha would have to exert more power than he currently has in order to protect his order.

Sun Wukong did not wish to resort to such a method unless absolutely necessary.

Buddha was seeking the sarira, while he, too, was searching for a surefire strategy for victory.

"The Heavenly Dao can grant me power."

Sun Wukong said: "The development of the Northern Continent is crucial."

This land would become his source of power; should the Wanling Heavenly Dao spread here, he would grow stronger.

"Have you found a way to awaken all of Wanling?"

Great Emperor Zhenwu asked next.

Sun Wukong hesitated for a moment, then nodded.

Although not an ideal method, he did have a way to accelerate the awakening process.
