The War God grows stronger from battle because he can infuse external battle will into his strength.
The more the flames of war, the more battle will the War God senses.
Yet, in Gouchen's perception, humanity overwhelmingly supports Sun Wukong.
Gouchen knows that the Three Realms have been changed.
And Sun Wukong understands this as well.
Having contended for the War God's Immortal Position, he surmised that Gouchen would ultimately choose him.
It was a destiny preordained by the Immortal Position.
"The time has come."
For Sun Wukong, the Buddha's actions also meant that the time had come.
Light erupted from behind him, from the Wanling diagram, bursting forth and in an instant, weaving into a river of light that illuminated the heavens.
The Buddha had no way out.
"Well said."
The Buddha rose from the lotus pedestal.
He had intended Gouchen to aid Lingshan, but his efforts were in vain.
Jingu Bang appeared in Sun Wukong's hand.
"Two Heavenly Venerates, take Immortal Zhen Yuan and the others away."
Sun Wukong said.
Emperor Qinghua and Gouchen nodded, and light flew out from them, pulling Immortal Zhen Yuan and Daji away from Lingshan.
Golden Cicada remained in place.
"Golden Cicada, you too should leave Lingshan."
Buddha spoke.
Golden Cicada shook his head.
"This battle has nothing to do with you, leave at once!"
Buddha said.
Golden Cicada was a potential future for Buddhism; he didn't want him to perish here.
"…I shall heed the decree."
Golden Cicada sighed and flew away.
In the blink of an eye, only Sun Wukong and two others remained on Lingshan, facing a sky full of Immortals and Bodhisattvas.
The Jingu Bang in Sun Wukong's hand emitted an excited tremble, the sound forming shockwaves in the sky that made some nearby Bodhisattvas change their complexion.
"What kind of treasure is this stick?"
Lingji Bodhisattva's face turned deathly pale as the sound from Jingu Bang sent shivers down his spine, trembling to his soul.
"Samantabhadra, do you have any tricks for fighting Sun Wukong?"
He asked, turning to the learned and knowledgeable Samantabhadra.
"There are two tricks."
Samantabhadra spoke seriously: "Don't make eye contact."
"Eye contact?"
"Immortals are spreading tales that his eyes are toxic; locking eyes with him will shake one's spirit."
Samantabhadra said.
"Ah!"
Lingji Bodhisattva was startled: "And the other?"
"Stay far away."
"What?"
"That Jingu Bang has immense power; near or far, it will crush bodies to dust."
Samantabhadra replied, "Better to stay far away and avoid its sharp edge."
Lingji Bodhisattva found this very sensible and stealthily took several steps back.
The next moment, Sun Wukong raised the Long Stick.
That was the signal for battle.
Emperor Qinghua and Gouchen God retreated behind him.
Immediately after, Lingji Bodhisattva saw Sun Wukong swing down hard, and a raging fire swept over.
"Block it!"
Five hundred Arhats dispersed in all directions across the sky, Buddha Light blossoming, forming distinct layers of a human flesh light shield.
Then, blinding light exploded into their field of vision.
As the fierce fire swept over the light shield, the five hundred Arhats shimmered like suddenly blossoming moonflowers, instantly flashing into a glaring burst of light.
"It's over, such a senseless death."
This thought crossed Lingji Bodhisattva's mind.
Without any resistance, Sun Wukong's flames engulfed him as well.
With just one strike, the figures of countless Immortals and Bodhisattvas across the heavens were swallowed by endless raging flames.
In the night, all cultivators across the Four Great Continents could see the flames sweeping the sky.
A vast ring of flame unfurled from Lingshan, tinting the sky a thorough red with its blaze.
"The Great King is so powerful."
Daji, who had just left Lingshan, shielded her eyes.
Qing Yuanzi was in even more agony from the glaring light, rolling on the ground.
"We must get further away."
Immortal Zhenyuan swept his sleeves and tucked the two inside, swiftly flying away from Lingshan.
At Huaguo Mountain, all of Wanling took notice of that fierce flame.
They had witnessed the might of Sun Wukong's Jingu Bang in the miniature world.
"The Great King has swung his stick."
The Demon Kings said with a touch of delight: "He's finally getting serious."
Their confidence in Sun Wukong had been deeply rooted through battle after battle.
In the eyes of the Demon Kings, there was no difficulty that Sun Wukong could not solve through combat.
"Second Great King, we need to accelerate our offensive!"
The Demon Kings turned to Ao Luan, only to see her head bowed, caressing her bracelet with a downcast expression.
"Why is the Second Great King not happy?"
The Demon Kings asked.
"It's not that I'm unhappy."
Ao Luan shook her head, looking up towards the Western direction: "Just a bit worried..."
Like the Demon Kings, she believed in Sun Wukong's victory.
She was not worried about Sun Wukong's defeat, but in this world, no one understood better than she did where Sun Wukong stood on the path of Wanling Heavenly Dao.
One more step forward, and Sun Wukong could ascend to a divinity amongst divinities.
A realm where even speaking could set rules, omnipotent in nature.
But this step, unless necessary, Ao Luan did not wish for him to take.
It was an incredibly lonely realm.
Ao Luan did not wish for Sun Wukong to feel that solitude.
The flames that swept across the sky at Lingshan soon faded into the distance.
Lingji Bodhisattva woke from excruciating pain, instinctively feeling his body, which seemed unharmed.
All those who opened their eyes found themselves enveloped in a layer of light membrane.
The membrane had protected them.
"We're fine."
The five hundred Arhats expressed joy: "We are still alive."
The others too showed an expression of one who had survived a disaster.
"Thank you, Buddha."
They spoke to the Buddha.
"Amitabha."
With hands clasped together, Buddha was surrounded by a myriad of brilliant lights, twinkling in the sky like stars, protecting every individual.
Sun Wukong's golden pupils reflected these glimmers, the Buddha's strength was immense, unknown how vast, and now, he had revealed his power for the first time.
Sun Wukong's strike, without any reservations, could have inflicted severe losses to the entire Lingshan, but it was effortlessly blocked by the Buddha.
"Difficult to deal with."
Both Emperor Qinghua and Gouchen God appeared concerned.
Sun Wukong, however, just smiled.
"Ah, that's how it should be..."
A look of pleasure appeared in Sun Wukong's eyes.
He soared high into the sky, his eyes flickering with intense combat fervor, which ignited into a vortex of flames swirling around Sun Wukong.
Gouchen paused upon seeing this scene, then slowly curled the corners of his mouth into a smile.
Although deciding where to stand had been a difficult choice, Gouchen realized that perhaps on an instinctual level, Sun Wukong was more to his liking than the Jade Emperor.
This was a Heavenly Emperor even more impassioned than him.
At times as placid as the ocean, at times as fervent as fire—these two bizarre qualities converged upon Sun Wukong.
Gouchen was not averse to it.
The Buddha sensed Sun Wukong's intent to battle.
"Anuo, Jia Ye, I will fight Sun Wukong," declared the Buddha. "You two hold off the Heavenly Venerates."
"This..."
Anuo and Jia Ye exchanged glances; however powerful they were, they wouldn't be able to stop those two freaks!
"The eight Bodhisattvas and the Randeng Ancient Buddha will assist you."
The Buddha added another sentence.
Then the two Buddhas readily accepted the command.
