The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 410: A Stalling Tactic

"Boom," a terrifying collision shakes the earth.

In the midst of the mountains, Daji almost falls over; she turns to look toward Lingshan.

"Great King won't run into trouble, will he?"

Daji asks.

"No."

Immortal Zhenyuan watches Lingshan: "He won't be defeated here."

However, though he says so, the expression on Immortal Zhenyuan's face is very serious.

The Lotus Throne presses down on Sun Wukong as it lands on the ground.

After the intense smoke dissipates, a column of light stands erect beneath the Lotus Throne.

The atmosphere around Lingshan immediately tightens as the Arhats stare at Sun Wukong below the Lotus Throne, clenching his teeth as a stream of blood trickles from his mouth.

Just as the suppression is about to be completed, the Jingu Bang blocks the Lotus Throne.

"Clang clang..."

The Lotus Throne continues to press down but is unable to advance an inch.

"Increase mana!"

Buddha's expression changes, brilliant light flies out from the hands of myriad Buddhas, converging above the Lotus Throne, intending to once again press Sun Wukong down.

Sun Wukong takes a deep breath, and a surge of wind and thunder moves around him; flames spew from his body, pouring endless strength into the Jingu Bang.

"Rise!"

The sharp aura of Jingu Bang pierces the sky, its momentum as fierce as a hurricane.

It collides with the Lotus Throne, making thunderous noises deafening to the ear.

The Lotus Throne begins to slowly rise, an astonishing sight.

Everyone who witnesses this scene is stunned.

"Sun Wukong is incredibly powerful."

Lingji Bodhisattva murmurs to himself.

Such power, unique in the world.

If it weren't for Buddha leveraging the strength of all Buddhas, perhaps he wouldn't be able to suppress him at all.

But there are no ifs in this world.

"Increase again!"

At Buddha's command, myriad Buddhas chant in unison, the Sanskrit consistently infused on the Lotus Throne, making it bigger and heavier.

Its upward momentum stops, and once again it presses down on Sun Wukong.

Under the immense pressure, the ground below Sun Wukong starts to burn, turning into a charred black.

But Sun Wukong resists the pressure halfway through.

He propped himself up with the Jingu Bang; man and staff as one, surrounded by a golden light shining brilliantly.

"How many more divine skills does this Sun Wukong have!"

Myriad Buddhas are shocked.

Before they could muster more strength, the next moment, behind Sun Wukong, a light revolves, transforming into a halo; the faces of Human Clan, Demon Clan, and various beings appear within it.

"Great King!"

"Great Saint!"

"Heavenly Emperor!"

One by one... countless voices sound in Sun Wukong's ears, all converging into his strength.

"Boom," once again the Lotus Throne presses down, striking Sun Wukong's body.

"Pfft"

Sun Wukong coughs up another mouthful of blood but withstands it.

A woman materializes behind him, raising both hands to prop up the Lotus Throne.

"It's her—"

Buddha's heart turns cold.

This woman is no ordinary being—she embodies the hopes and wishes of many beings.

Sun Wukong's body flares up with flames, radiant and magnificent, standing in the center like a deity.

He wields the Jingu Bang, crashing it into the Lotus Throne like thunder.

The two collide fiercely, the clash ringing out.

Below the Lotus Throne, a shockwave spreads out, a power difficult for outsiders to fathom, causing all Buddhas to spit out a mouthful of blood, nearly falling from the Golden Lotus.

"How could it be this terrifying!"

They look towards Sun Wukong in horror.

With such a tremendous cost, all Buddhas mobilize yet still find it difficult to suppress—if indeed, Sun Wukong is the first among the Three Realms!

The name of Heavenly Emperor is thoroughly deserved!

Buddha watches sternly as the scene unfolds.

"Suppress again!"

Buddha commands.

But at this moment, the woman suddenly flies into Sun Wukong's body.

A rune flashes on Sun Wukong's forehead, and his whole being ignites like a fireball.

He leaps up, driving immense flames toward the Lotus Throne.

"Explode!"

The massive lotus throne cracked, spewing endless fierce flames upwards.

A golden streak of light pierced through it.

Radiant light burst in the sky, and for a moment, it seemed to turn into eternity.

Daji stared blankly at the blossom unfolding in the sky.

"Is that the Great King's light?"

"This, is indeed my wise brother."

Immortal Zhenyuan revealed a smile, relieved at heart.

Gouchen and Emperor Qinghua watching this scene, were even more overjoyed.

"Heavenly Emperor!"

A surge of passion rose in Gouchen's heart.

This, is the Heavenly Emperor.

Bearing the will of all beings, invincible.

Sun Wukong's undefeated, is the wish of all beings.

Gouchen fixed his gaze on Sun Wukong as he broke out of the lotus throne.

What an immensely powerful, dazzling figure.

"Sun Wukong!"

The Buddha, unwilling to let his efforts go to waste, stirred up a sky full of Golden Lotuses, ablaze.

Those eternal lotuses, vanished in an instant, almost by half.

"The Nine-layered Lotus Throne!"

The Buddha poured his entire essence and spirit into creation, crafting nine virtual lotus thrones in the sky.

"Hurry and help the Buddha!"

Witnessing the situation, numerous Buddhas put forth their power without reservation, pouring it into the lotus thrones.

Nine lotus platforms took shape in an instant, endless mana poured into them, layer upon layer descending, pressing down upon Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong's upright posture never changed, his body merged with Jingu Bang, penetrating the heavens and earth, unstoppable!

One by one, the lotus thrones cracked open in the sky, with auras blossoming.

Lotus thrones, one after another, crumbled down.

The millennia-standing Lingshan, struck by falling lotus thrones, palaces and temples vanished within the flames one after another.

"Lingshan!"

A stir arose among the Bodhisattva Arhats in the sky.

Sun Wukong has just pierced through the eighth lotus throne.

"Boom, boom, boom!"

Just as he was about to break through the last lotus throne, suddenly a bright light shone in the sky, the Buddha's apparition appeared on the throne, holy and brilliant, like a scorching sun.

"We can't wait any longer."

His voice resounded.

"I'll help you pull it out."

The voice of the World Venerable emerged simultaneously.

Before Sun Wukong could react, seven bizarre rays of light suddenly appeared, striking him and scattering a splash of blood behind him.

His momentum abruptly halted.

"What?"

Emperor Gouchen and Emperor Qinghua were shocked as they witnessed Sun Wukong being pressed by the final lotus throne, plummeting toward the ground.

How could this be!

"What's happening?"

Emperor Gouchen asked urgently.

"Heavenly Dao."

Emperor Qinghua's face turned ashen: "Your Majesty's Divine Soul has left the body, the connection with the Wanling Heavenly Dao is severed."

In the sky, the Golden Lotuses beneath the Bodhisattvas had all disappeared.

That was an avatar of the Buddha, its disappearance signified that the Buddha had resorted to a desperate measure, the True Spirit was not here.

They sighed, then arose and bowed to the central World Venerable.

"Thank you, World Venerable."

They looked towards the World Venerable, only to see the seven relics had vanished, and the World Venerable had reverted to the form of a little monk.

"I've used the relics to suppress Sun Wukong's physical body, while the Buddha battles with his Divine Soul in the void."

The World Venerable stated, "This is but a delay, you all still need to be wary."

They had searched for a long time, finally discovering the weakness of Sun Wukong lied in his Divine Soul.

As long as his Divine Soul is separated from the Heavenly Dao, his power would be greatly reduced.

However, this was a desperate measure, it was unknown whether the Buddha could defeat Sun Wukong with his True Spirit.

"Quite troublesome."

The World Venerable looked towards Sun Wukong, whose unconscious form continued to fall downwards, eyes closed, his hair burning like flames.

His hand had loosened, and Jingu Bang had fallen outside.

It gleamed and dashed, trying to save him, but unable to break through the lotus throne.

With a bang, Sun Wukong was pressed under the lotus throne.
