The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 44: Splendid and Brilliant

Three years later, several ships docked at the port of Yongfu Island.

Zhang Liang, seeing the young man and guards disembarking from the ship, promptly bent over to greet them: "Prince."

"There's no need for such formality, sir."

Liu Heng helped Zhang Liang up, saying, "You are an Immortal who has achieved Daoist Skill; there's no need to salute me."

Zhang Liang responded with a smile, "You are the son of the Great Ancestor; you rightfully deserve my grand salute."

Liu Heng, the Prince from the difficult Southern Continent, had come for the purpose of receiving the Hundred Herbs Scripture.

After several years, upon the completion of the Hundred Herbs Scripture, and learning the news, the Southern Continent did not dare to delay, promptly dispatching Liu Heng to receive it.

The Hundred Herbs Scripture is a medicinal classic of great significance. Lv Zhi hoped that by sending someone to receive it, she could gain more support from the people,

"Empress Lv originally wanted to come in person but due to the far distance, she had no choice but to send me,"

Liu Heng shared with Zhang Liang.

Zhang Liang understood clear as day why Empress Lv sent Liu Heng.

Years ago, the Great Ancestor demolished Wei Palace by chance and it was by mere fluke that Bo Ji gave birth to Liu Heng.

This Prince, always aloof from the court, had not an ounce of ambition, and his mother Bo Ji was also a person of sincere and honest nature; neither mother nor son would pose a threat to Empress Lv.

Empress Lv's dispatch of Liu Heng to fetch the Hundred Herbs Scripture served a dual purpose: one, to show respect to the Monkey King by utilizing the stature of the imperial family; two, as Liu Heng posed no threat to her.

"Sir, has the Monkey King agreed to see me?"

Liu Heng inquired of Zhang Liang.

Their quest for the scripture was on urgent notice, all due to a sudden idea of Empress Lv, without prior notification to the Monkey King, so Liu Heng was unsure whether he would be successful.

Zhang Liang couldn't help but laugh and said, "Rest assured, the Great King is considerate and polite. Now that you are here, how could he not see you?"

Liu Heng was overjoyed.

Then Zhang Liang added, "However, you must first accompany me around. Once the Great King finishes meeting with other guests, then you may proceed to see him."

Liu Heng immediately remembered the several ships at the port flying the Dragon Flag.

"Are there other countries also here to receive the scripture?"

Liu Heng asked, not expecting others to have taken similar action to Empress Lv.

"There are plenty,"

Zhang Liang said with a smile: "More than a dozen countries from the Four Continents have sent envoys to acquire the scripture."

Liu Heng's eyes widened in astonishment, and Zhang Liang continued, "However, you arrived early, being the second one here."

Liu Heng immediately felt relieved: "Who was the first?"

"The King of the Kingdom of Aolai."

As Zhang Liang escorted Liu Heng around Yongfu Island, he also explained.

The Kingdom of Aolai had close ties with Huaguo Mountain, and its King even regarded the Monkey King as his mentor. As soon as the news of the Hundred Herbs Scripture spread, he personally led a delegation over.

Liu Heng secretly admired.

He toured Yongfu Island with Zhang Liang, who led him through bustling areas, leaving Liu Heng dazzled.

"Huaguo Mountain truly is a treasure trove of the human world."

Liu Heng thought to himself that the sights he was seeing were even more flourishing than those of Chang'an.

Demon figures in human form filled the streets, dressed appropriately, their expressions full of vitality.

The cleanliness of the streets here also astonished him. Without any human spellcasting, even the brooms avoided pedestrians, leaving the streets spotlessly clean.

Rows of lanterns floated neatly above the street and did not hinder pedestrians. According to Zhang Liang, at night, these lanterns would light up, decorating the entire Yongfu Island with bright and shining lights.

All these were somewhat expected, as Liu Heng had heard about them before. However, he also saw many Spiritual Objects he had never heard of.

What shocked him the most were some human children flying back and forth above the rooftops.

"Are those humans?"

Liu Heng pointed at the children and asked.

Zhang Liang looked up and saw that these children did not have the characteristics of demons; they were clearly human—Huaguo Mountain had some human craftsmen and artisans who settled here, and naturally, their children grew up here as well.

"They're human."

Zhang Liang waved his hand and pulled the children down to the ground.

"This is a marketplace, no frolicking allowed, be careful or the Bear Demon King will snatch you away."

Zhang Liang warned them sternly, and the children immediately ran off in a panic.

Liu Heng was dumbfounded: "Master, they're all mortals, how can they fly?"

"They're wearing Heavenly Clothes."

Zhang Liang replied: "Huaguo Mountain is establishing a floating Royal City, and in order to adapt to life up there, weavers have woven Floating Dao Talismans into the fabric, calling it 'Heavenly Clothes.'"

These Heavenly Clothes were not yet perfected, but they could already be used by the children.

In recent years, Huaguo Mountain's technological advancements have been swift, and some of the Spiritual Objects are so well-hidden that they can no longer be discerned from appearances.

Liu Heng's face was full of amazement: "Why haven't I heard of such magical clothing outside?"

Zhang Liang smiled and shook his head: "Prince, haven't you noticed something different about Huaguo Mountain since you arrived?"

"Different?"

Liu Heng thought for a moment: "Now that you mention it, the air here does seem a bit different."

"That's the Spiritual Energy."

Zhang Liang replied, knowing that Liu Heng had learned some Daoist Skill for strengthening the body and would definitely be able to feel the Spiritual Energy of Huaguo Mountain.

After three years of accumulation, Huaguo Mountain's Spiritual Energy had become much more concentrated, capable of supporting some phenomena that were impossible in the past.

"Heavenly Clothes can only be used in Huaguo Mountain," Zhang Liang said. "Once they leave Huaguo Mountain, they lose their function, and naturally, no humans would buy them to take home."

The demons of Huaguo Mountain were becoming increasingly clear that the Spiritual Network was a treasure.

Sun Wukong defined it as infrastructure, and indeed, it achieved this effect—with the help of the Spiritual Network, demons could create Spiritual Objects at will.

The infinite possibilities brought by the Spiritual Network turned even the Royal City from a dream into an achievable goal. All demons were striving with all their might to build the Royal City and earn praise from the Monkey King.

Liu Heng was filled with emotion: "How great it would be if our humans had this technology."

Zhang Liang shook his head; that was simply impossible—the Spiritual Network and technology of Huaguo Mountain were all created by Sun Wukong. Without him, there would be no Huaguo Mountain.

However, a being like Sun Wukong, if one searched throughout the Three Realms, they surely could not find a second one.

"Prince."

Zhang Liang's ears twitched, hearing the summons.

He said to Liu Heng: "The King of the Kingdom of Aolai has left Shuilian Cave, the Great King has asked me to take you there."

"Alright."

Liu Heng straightened his clothes.

Accompanied by his guards, he followed Zhang Liang away from Yongfu Island and entered the native land of Huaguo Mountain. Upon entering the mainland, the surrounding environment immediately became filled with the singing of birds and fragrance of flowers, utterly different from Yongfu Island.

Liu Heng admired the beautiful scenery, becoming increasingly curious about the Monkey King.

"Why doesn't the Monkey King build his city here?"

He was about to ask Zhang Liang when he suddenly heard the sound of a Phoenix and looked up, only to be greatly surprised.

A Phoenix, pulling a carriage, suddenly swept across the sky, leaving behind two glowing wheel tracks, brilliant and resplendent, immeasurably magnificent.

"What is that?"

Liu Heng asked.

There was even a portrait of a monk hanging behind the carriage.

"That must be Elder Jin Chan who has lost his way."

Zhang Liang stroked his beard and sighed deeply, "Immortal Zhenyuan is looking for him."

That Golden Cicada was famously bad with directions, always getting lost while wandering around Huaguo Mountain.

Immortal Zhenyuan had a feud with him, but would never miss any opportunity to flaunt his carriage in front of Golden Cicada and to mock him.
