The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 48: Rather than Picking a Day It's Better to Just Go with It

The Demon Beasts have a king.

This fact surprised Sun Wukong, and at the same time, aroused some doubts within him.

He led the Mountain Gods, sweeping across the green lands with force, and in just three days, they had nearly cleared the area.

Without any accidents occurring.

"The Heavenly Emperor is truly formidable!"

The Mountain Gods were all very happy.

Along the way, they encountered many Demon Beasts so powerful that they were almost impossible to handle, yet every time Sun Wukong made a move, he could easily subdue them.

Through this journey, both the Mountain Gods and the Kua Fu tribe were filled with reverence for Sun Wukong.

Nothing convinces like strength.

The display of Sun Wukong's immense power also quelled any notions of resistance from the bound Demon Beasts.

Three days later, as they occupied another oasis, a light emanated from Sun Wukong's chest.

He took up the Jade Seal, and watched it emit a bright luminescence, lighting up the snowy ground.

All beings, upon seeing that light, knelt on the ground.

Sun Wukong communicated with the Jade Seal for a moment.

"There are no strong Demon Beasts ahead."

He received information from the Jade Seal and turned to say, "The remaining Demon Beasts are not a threat, clean them up for me."

"Yes."

The response echoed to the skies.

But it wasn't the loudness of their voices, rather that the responders were too many in number.

In these three days, the beings following behind Sun Wukong had grown in number, spreading tens of miles from the ground to the sky.

Sun Wukong surveyed this formidable troop,

Apart from the original Mountain Gods and Giants, there were many beings who had flocked from the oases and others who had come following the news from different places.

They could defeat all Demon Beasts.

"Moon Immortal."

Sun Wukong called over the Moon Immortal, "Immediately dispatch someone to notify the Mountain Gods of both the Northern Wilderness and the Southern Wilderness, and prepare for migration."

The Moon Immortal was delighted, "Your Majesty is going to retrieve the sun?"

"Hm."

Sun Wukong decided to take the sun.

He left the Moon Immortal behind, and with a sudden leap onto the Somersault Cloud, amidst the exclamations of the onlookers, he turned into a golden light and vanished.

The golden light streaked across the sky and in the blink of an eye, he was back in the Southern Wilderness.

Deep within the wilderness, Prime Minister Shouma had been waiting by the lake for quite some time.

As soon as Sun Wukong emerged from the lake surface, he immediately led people to greet him.

"Welcome back, Heavenly Emperor."

The Prime Minister said joyfully, "The Emperor has been informed of your arrival and asked me to welcome you here."

"He certainly gets news fast."

Sun Wukong remarked.

Following the Prime Minister, he entered Shouma Country, and as they passed through the city gates, Sun Wukong was puzzled.

"Why has this city become taller?"

He noticed that the walls of Shouma Country had grown taller since his last visit.

"We attempted to move the city."

The Prime Minister answered, "Shouma Country can fly."

Sun Wukong instantly understood.

Shouma Country must be a large Floating City.

He returned to the Imperial Palace, where the Emperor, leading civil and military officials, welcomed him.

"Can you give me the sun now?"

After the greetings, Sun Wukong asked.

"Of course."

The Emperor nodded, then respectfully said, "Before that, I have one condition, I request the Heavenly Emperor to agree first."

"What condition."

Sun Wukong frowned.

"Please pardon Kua Fu's transgressions."

The Emperor said.

Sun Wukong was completely surprised by this condition.

"Of course."

Sun Wukong nodded; he originally had no interest in punishing Kua Fu.

The Emperor immediately smiled, "Heavenly Emperor, please come with me to retrieve the sun."

He led Sun Wukong into the depths of the Imperial Palace.

"Where is Immortal Zhen Yuan?"

Sun Wukong asked, "Is he in cultivation?"

Immortal Zhenyuan did not come out to receive him, which surprised Sun Wukong.

"Immortal Zhenyuan found Kua Fu yesterday and battled with him."

The Emperor sighed: "Both of them were injured and are now recuperating."

Sun Wukong was stunned.

But he remembered that he had given Immortal Zhenyuan one of his hairs; Immortal should suffer no great harm.

"Is Kua Fu alright?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"That is the reason I am seeking your mercy."

The Emperor said: "His body can no longer withstand punishment."

After all, Kua Fu was the meritorious figure who captured the sun for Shouma Country; The Emperor could not let him die without helping.

Sun Wukong then asked about the reason Kua Fu came to Shouma Country.

"I have heard that he was lured here by a woman."

Sun Wukong said.

"Indeed."

The Emperor nodded: "The Kua Fu clan, in order to ensure his cultivation, did not allow him to have contact with female giants, which provided us an opportunity."

They had used a beauty trap against Kua Fu, and it was estimated that in another year, a child would be born.

While chatting with Sun Wukong, the Emperor led him to the Imperial Palace's treasury.

The treasury was filled with treasures, but Sun Wukong did not see the sun.

"Where is the sun?"

He asked.

"Right here."

The Emperor brought out a treasure box and handed it to Sun Wukong.

True Sun Fire coiled around the treasure box, but it was only the size of a bamboo basket and didn't look like it could fit the sun.

"The sun is really inside?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"This is the Heavenly Emperor's treasure, it contains its own heaven and earth, suitable for nurturing the sun."

The Emperor of Shouma Country said.

This treasure box was not only for nurturing the sun, but also crucial for Sun Wukong's future opening of the Immortal City.

"I see."

Sun Wukong observed the treasure box, and without noticing anything unusual, he then asked: "Can I talk to the sun?"

"Of course."

The Emperor nodded: "It can hear us talk inside."

Sun Wukong then spoke to the treasure box: "Sun, I will let you out, but will you listen to my command to shine upon Wanling in the future?"

The treasure box shivered slightly.

"Why should I listen to you?"

Sun Wukong heard a child's voice.

"Because he is the Heavenly Emperor."

The Emperor said: "He holds the Heavenly Emperor Jade Seal."

"What a joke, even with it, what difference does it make? You're just the same. I'm not scared of..."

The sun gave a disdainful voice, but a light flashed across Sun Wukong's chest, and the sun immediately took back its words.

"Okay, okay, okay... I'm scared, you keep it safe, don't let it come out!"

The sun gave in.

Sun Wukong looked at the Emperor.

"The Heaven and Earth Jade Seal can suppress the sun."

The Emperor said: "I had only heard of it, only to see it for the first time today."

He sighed softly.

Sun Wukong looked again at the treasure box: "Will you truly obey?"

"Listen, I am a good child."

The sun answered: "Originally, I also did only what I should; it's only because you all love to interfere, that I can't find peace."

It didn't have as many concerns as mortals, shining upon Wanling made it happy.

"You need not worry."

Sun Wukong said with a smile: "Once I re-establish order, I will set Heavenly Rules, to prevent anyone from threatening you."

"Then you must keep your word."

The sun immediately said: "If so, I will fully obey you, wherever you want me to shine, I will shine."

Sun Wukong received the promise, and shrunk the treasure box to place over his chest.

He asked the Emperor: "When will the people of Shouma Country relocate?"

"It's better to start sooner rather than later."

The Emperor responded: "I will have them prepare immediately."
