The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 94: The Object of Body Refinement

Sun Wukong then sealed the power of the Pagoda and hung it around the neck of the maiden.

"All beings have the Buddha-nature within them."

The Pagoda said: "You cannot escape. Eventually, you will all join us. Better to join sooner than later."

Sun Wukong promptly sealed its voice as well.

"Take it with you; it'll be useful in the future."

Sun Wukong said to the maiden.

"Tian Gou."

Afterward, he called for the Heavenly Dog.

"What does Your Majesty require?"

The Heavenly Dog came over and asked.

"Can you find the Jade Seal for me?"

Sun Wukong asked.

Since his arrival here, he had not sensed the presence of the Heavenly Emperor Jade Seal.

Sun Wukong had thought that Galuo, after being in this world for so long, must have obtained the Jade Seal.

But during their two encounters, he did not sense the existence of the Jade Seal on him.

"The Jade Seal?"

The Heavenly Dog, upon hearing Sun Wukong's question, shook its head: "I have not found it."

"Give it a try first."

Sun Wukong took out the Jade Seal of Xu Xiu San and let the Heavenly Dog sniff it.

After sniffing it carefully and taking in the scents from all directions, the Heavenly Dog said: "I think I smell something similar."

Sun Wukong asked where.

"To the east, about ten thousand li away."

The Heavenly Dog answered.

Instantly, Sun Wukong grabbed it and stepped forward, vanishing into the void.

In the next moment, when they reappeared, they were already ten thousand li away.

The Heavenly Dog was shocked.

"Your Majesty indeed has mastered the Shattering Void!"

Its respect for Sun Wukong grew even more; once Wukong masters one spell, all spells become accessible to him, and he learns any spell with great speed.

After emerging from the void, following the scent of the Jade Seal, the Heavenly Dog led Sun Wukong to a temple.

"It seems to be inside."

The Heavenly Dog said.

Upon seeing the temple, Sun Wukong understood.

The Jade Seal was most likely still with Jile, but he was not carrying it with him.

"Your Majesty, there are only mortals in the temple. I will steal the Jade Seal out."

The Heavenly Dog was eager to try.

"No need."

Sun Wukong did not want to waste time. He extended his hand, and immediately a black object flew out of the temple and landed in his hand.

The Heavenly Dog saw that it was the Jade Seal.

This Jade Seal looked plain and ordinary, its surface dull and lusterless, in no way resembling the Heavenly Emperor Jade Seal—Sun Wukong's other Jade Seals were all shining brightly.

The Heavenly Dog somewhat doubted whether Sun Wukong had found the wrong one.

But it did not dare to voice its doubt.

Sun Wukong examined the Jade Seal; it was indeed the Heavenly Emperor Jade Seal, but it had lost all its power, like an empty shell.

Jile had acquired the Jade Seal, yet he refrained from repairing it, which surprised Sun Wukong.

Yet amid his surprise, he also worried whether the Jade Seal could open the Light Gate leading to the Huabiao.

Sun Wukong sought the Jade Seal primarily to inspect the Huabiao.

"Let's give it a try."

Taking the Jade Seal, Sun Wukong entered the void with the Heavenly Dog and emerged tens of thousands of li away, at the closest place to the Huabiao.

Following the direction sensed in the void, he flew for another ten minutes and arrived at a verdant valley.

"What are we doing here?"

The Heavenly Dog looked around a few times, thinking it was a desolate place.

"Follow me."

Sun Wukong led the Heavenly Dog, using the Wall Penetration Technique to enter the mountain and locate the Spirit Vein.

He took out the Jade Seal, infused it with immortal power, and shone it ahead.

The Jade Seal had no reaction.

He frowned slightly, tried several more times, but the Jade Seal still did not respond.

Sun Wukong then realized that unless the Jade Seal itself regained its strength, it would be impossible for him to open the Light Gate.

He stepped out of the Spirit Vein and looked towards the sky thousands of miles away.

The battle between Immortal Zhen Yuan and the monk was still ongoing, with lightning flashing and thunder roaring in the sky, a terrifying sight.

"There's still time."

Sun Wukong thought to himself.

The Jade Seal is the embodiment of the will of all beings; to restore its power, it must be recognized by the multitude.

However, this Star Palace was different from the previous ones; there was no great disaster.

He could not possibly gain the recognition of all beings in a short period of time.

After pondering for a moment, Sun Wukong split into dozens of clones and visited various kingdoms.

He aimed to win over the kings of the kingdoms and make them acknowledge him as the Heavenly Emperor.

This was not a difficult task; Sun Wukong himself was the Heavenly Emperor. All he had to do was to exhibit divine power, perform miracles, and offer rewards like healing the sick and prolonging life, then most countries would agree.

But there were also several powerful countries that were reluctant to accept him.

Using spells, Sun Wukong discovered that the kings of these countries were already under Galuo's control, considering the White Robed Venerate as the Heavenly Emperor.

"Fifty years from now, endless devils will surge from beneath the ground, and only the White Robed Venerate can save us."

The kings trembled before Sun Wukong's divine might, yet they firmly believed that a great disaster would come to the world in the future, and only the White Robed Venerate could save them.

Galuo had shown them disasters that had befallen other Star Officials; each time a Star Palace plunged into suffering, the White Robed Venerate would be reborn into the world, subdue demons, and establish Buddha Country.

The kings believed that by aiding the White Robed Venerate, they could ascend to Pure Land and become Bodhisattva Arhats of the Brahma Void Heavenly Court.

Their resolve was firm, ingrained after generations of indoctrination by Galuo.

"The Pure Land is not so easily realized."

Sun Wukong thought to himself, figuring out the White Robed Venerate's method of conquering the Brahma Void Heavenly Court.

He did not like this method.

Nevertheless, after some effort, the Jade Seal in his hand regained some luster, with strands of flowing light flickering within.

"Let's try again."

Sun Wukong called all his clones back.

He returned to the Spirit Vein, picked up the Jade Seal, and infused it with immortal power.

"Open!"

At Sun Wukong's command, the Jade Seal emitted a light, shining ahead.

The Spirit Vein, flowing like the Star River, rippled briefly, but quickly stabilized again.

"It still doesn't work?"

Sun Wukong felt a coldness inside.

But he had another method—using the power of other Jade Seals.

Sun Wukong summoned all the Jade Seals on his person into mid-air; they sparkled like stars, resonating with the Jade Seal in his hand.

"Lend it your power!"

At Sun Wukong's command, the Jade Seals shot out rays of light, falling upon the one in his hand.

The Jade Seal in his hand shone brightly, then floated up, casting its light forward.

A shaky Light Gate gradually appeared, flickering like a flame, as if it might extinguish at any moment.

"Come back."

Sun Wukong took back the Jade Seals, noticing that the light inside the Jade Seal had faded again.

In order to open this gate, the hard-earned power it had regained had disappeared once more.

He then took the other Jade Seals back into his body.

"You stay here."

Sun Wukong left the Heavenly Dog behind, stepped into the Light Gate, and vanished.

The Heavenly Dog waited outside, somewhat anxious that the Light Gate would disappear.

The Light Gate only lasted for the time of two incense sticks, but fortunately, Sun Wukong reemerged before the Light Gate vanished.

He had no time to decode the totem, so he used Immortal Law to quickly memorize the totem inside.

"Let's go back."

Sun Wukong and the Heavenly Dog headed back to Wushan.

The battle at Wushan had also ended, with Immortal Zhen Yuan sustaining no small injuries, but he remained vigorous and spirited.

"Brother, that fellow ran away again!"

He said to Sun Wukong, yet there was no sign of disappointment in his voice.

Sun Wukong knew well that Immortal Zhen Yuan treated that monk entirely as an object for body refining.
