The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 125: Novice Monk

The White Robed Venerate possessed the Heavenly Emperor Jade Seal, overseeing the Three Realms of heaven, earth, and humanity.

The Pure Land was not devoid of the Underworld and Reincarnation; rather, it was transformed by the White Robed Venerate—he merged the Three Realms into one, breaking the boundary between life and death.

The White Robed Venerate, with a smile, said to Sun Wukong, "I have set the battle in the Heavenly Court, thus ensuring victory."

Sun Wukong felt a slight sink in his heart.

He scanned the battlefield and then calmed down again.

"You miscalculated. I can win this war."

Sun Wukong spoke.

The White Robed Venerate was slightly surprised, then watched as Sun Wukong swung his Long Stick, unleashing a burst of intense flames, engulfing his vision once again.

When the White Robed Venerate reformed, the fire around him was vast, burning heavenly Dao traces in the sky, each trace manifesting a Wanling diagram, suppressing his Dharma likeness.

"Locking me down is useless."

The White Robed Venerate told Sun Wukong, "As long as my Buddhist children don't die, your Immortals can't outlast them."

While they spoke, the surroundings were far from calm, with bursts of battle flames exploding around them, continuously sending out large and small shockwaves.

"If you want to stop my Buddhist children, you have to scatter their souls."

The White Robed Venerate asked, "Can you exterminate them entirely?"

Sun Wukong was about to speak when two thick bolts of lightning suddenly split from the clouds above the Wanling diagrams, erupting in deafening thunder.

He waited for the thunder to pass before saying, "Your Buddhist children regenerate because there is a spring flowing underground; there must be a sacred object supporting it. If we find that object and destroy it, that's it."

The Underworld reincarnation also needs the Six Paths of Reincarnation; Sun Wukong did not believe these Buddhist children could regenerate on their own.

"Even if there is such an object, how would you find it?"

The White Robed Venerate was not worried.

However, Sun Wukong already had an idea: "Not just you are aware of the Pure Land."

The White Robed Venerate was taken aback, then a sword light streaked past him, plunging towards the lotus formation on the ground.

He looked down to see the sword light burst and explode within the lotus formation, completely shattering a group of just-revived Buddhist children.

It was the Jade Emperor's Heavenly Sword.

The battle in the sky had intensified, the fire light covering the sun, radiant and dazzling.

The resurrected Buddhist children flooded into the battlefield like a tide, yet the Heavenly Soldiers and Generals did not retreat; the war drums thundered, and their momentum was overwhelming.

The two forces clashed, Divine Swords against Tin Staffs, clanging and sparking.

The Jade Emperor floated in the middle of the battlefield, surrounded by the Heavenly Sword; the sword light was tangible, flickering and causing countless Buddhist children to fall.

Wanling, having regained his strength, was equally powerful, his omnipresent flames burning all the lotuses around him to ashes.

Countless Buddhist children surged towards the two, then turned into a light rain falling to the ground.

"These Buddhist children do not fear death."

Wanling killed several Buddhist children with a casual strike and said, "We need to destroy their Immortal Souls, or they can regenerate."

The Jade Emperor frowned slightly and had not yet responded when the Buddhist children, with cries shaking the heavens, arrived in an instant.

Wanling flew over, wielding a sword, emitting a burst of blinding light; then, scream after scream, countless lotuses fell to the ground.

"We can't drag this out."

Wanling said, "If we don't solve these Buddhist children, the Heavenly Soldiers and Generals will surely be defeated."

"I'll suppress them first!"

The Jade Emperor raised his hand, his Immortal might vast, turning into a Vast Ocean of sword light, hanging upside down in the high sky.

Everyone shuddered; beneath the Vast Ocean, the void shattered, and thousands of sword shadows fell from the sky.

"Suppress!"

At the command of the Jade Emperor, the sword shadows covered the land like a tsunami, the ground thunderously and violently shaking.

The many resurrected Buddhist children were once again slain on the spot.

"Their Immortal Souls are still intact."

Wanling frowned slightly; the Immortal Souls of these Buddhist children somehow survived under the hand of the Jade Emperor, seemingly protected by some sacred object.

"Buddha, does your Buddhist sect have any Magical Treasure that could..."

Gouchen was about to inquire Buddha, but saw Buddha descending toward the ground.

"Heavenly Emperor wants me to find the object of rebirth, and the battlefield is left to you."

With that, Buddha suddenly vanished into thin air.

He transformed into a mortal and descended to the ground.

"Great Monk."

A voice arose next to Buddha's ear: "Do you really intend to help Sun Wukong?"

It was the voice of the White Robed Venerate.

Buddha's disguise could fool others, but it couldn't escape the eyes of the White Robed Venerate.

The White Robed Venerate persuaded again: "You should be creating a Pure Land with me for these chaotic beings."

"Indeed, but after all, Sun Wukong is the Heavenly Emperor."

Buddha responded, "I am a man of the Three Realms, yet I have no choice but to help him."

"Another excuse to deceive me."

The White Robed Venerate spoke: "Sun Wukong's divine heart has been shaken by me; Immortal, you might as well wait and see who wins between him and me before making a decision."

"Aren't you also deceiving me?"

Buddha couldn't help but laugh: "Sun Wukong is no ordinary person; it's impossible to sway his divine heart."

He understood Sun Wukong; all the arrangements made by the White Robed Venerate were not enough to shake Sun Wukong's divine heart.

How could someone, who would destroy a world he lived in for two hundred years for a true future, be stopped by a mere Pure Land?

"You and I both know, these myriad mortals can't stop Sun Wukong, if he could be subdued by this, why didn't you reveal the truth to him?"

Buddha said: "The paths you and he pursue are different, speaking out is futile."

The White Robed Venerate fell silent.

What he did was indeed not to subdue Sun Wukong, but to provoke him.

"Amitabha."

Knowing further words were useless, the voice of the White Robed Venerate faded away next to Buddha's ear.

Buddha looked up, seeing the magnificent Dharma manifestation in the sky.

At this moment, the Dharma manifestation was enveloped by the Wanling Heavenly Dao, resembling a giant cocoon, unable to break free.

"Quickly find that treasure."

Buddha's ear heard Sun Wukong's voice again.

He glanced at the figure covered by flames, then started searching on the ground.

Perhaps he was the only one who could find that treasure in the entire battlefield.

Buddha knew the Pure Land very well; the rebirth in the Pure Land relied on the Seven Treasures Pool, which had disappeared on this land.

It's impossible for there to be no Seven Treasures Pool here.

The power of the clear spring came from the Seven Treasures Pool; Buddha applied the Supreme Divine Power, unraveling layers to locate a pavilion.

"It seems to be in this place."

Standing in front of the pavilion, Buddha could hear the Buddhist chants coming from within.

He pushed open the door, entered, and saw a little novice monk.

The novice monk was sitting on a lotus, holding a wooden fish, and looked somewhat panicked.

Buddha sighed inwardly.

"You are the Seven Treasures Pool."

Buddha placed his palms together: "Truly a sin."

He never expected the Seven Treasures Pool to have transformed into a novice monk.

After a brief contemplation, Buddha formed a Dharma Seal and was about to strike the novice monk.

However, before he could strike, the pavilion suddenly shook violently and then, with a whoosh, sank into the ground, taking the novice monk with it.

Thrown back onto the ground, Buddha had no choice but to continue searching.
