The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 187: Arrogance

"What does he mean by that?"

Emperor Yao looked at Immortal Zhenyuan's retreating back with curiosity.

"Each Star Palace has the record of Hongmeng Totems etched onto its stele."

Hovering in the air, Sun Wukong pondered for a moment, then replied, "Perhaps, the Grotto Heaven where the stele is located contains something that can suppress the Totems."

"So that's how it is!"

The eyes of Earth Virtues Star Monarch and the others lit up.

How come they hadn't thought of the stele?

"If that's the case, things are simple."

Earth Virtues Star Monarch said, "The Immortal can use the Immortal Stones of the Grotto Heaven to create a small world!"

"Simple? Can you produce the stones from that Grotto Heaven?"

Sun Wukong's voice carried surprise and doubt.

"This is not difficult. After you, Heavenly Emperor, had left, we spent a great deal of time studying them."

Earth Virtues Star Monarch replied, "We have already refined many of the Immortal Stones from that Grotto Heaven."

Sun Wukong was both shocked and pleased; he hadn't expected the technology of the Three Realms to have advanced this far.

"If I had known this earlier, I would have pressed Ao Luan for more information."

Sun Wukong lamented that if he had known about this earlier, the progress of the small worlds would surely have been faster.

Fortunately, it wasn't too late now.

"Crack crack!"

Not long after, above the chessboard in the sky of Virtue Palace, snapping sounds echoed as the light began to dissipate.

After the light vanished, the chains of fire around Sun Wukong also disappeared.

"Take a rest."

Sun Wukong descended from the air.

His eyes were bright; he walked over to the Immortal Mirror and watched the actions of the undying people within.

"Emperor Yao, when have you seen these undying people?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"It's been a long time, right when my Immortal Court was destroyed."

Emperor Yao's expression darkened as he said, "They were two groups of uninvited guests. This woman might even be sent by the Venerable."

"It shouldn't be."

Sun Wukong looked at the undying people, "She's not sent by the Venerable."

"Since she's not sent by the Venerable."

Earth Virtues Star Monarch immediately asked, "Can we turn these enemies into friends?"

"Impossible!"

Emperor Yao decisively interjected, "The undying people are a great enemy to all beings of Chaos."

Earth Virtues Star Monarch looked astonished, turning his gaze to Sun Wukong.

"Heavenly Emperor, what do you mean by..."

"Extremely difficult."

Sun Wukong also shook his head, saying, "We are not the same kind of people."

"What do you mean?"

Earth Virtues Star Monarch didn't understand. Sun Wukong was usually open-minded and wouldn't easily regard others as enemies.

"The way the undying people look at beings of Chaos."

Sun Wukong replied, "It's similar to how Heavenly King Li once looked at Demons."

Earth Virtues Star Monarch was taken aback.

"No, maybe it's even worse..."

Then, Sun Wukong shook his head again, saying, "They are even harder to communicate with than Heavenly King Li was back then."

Although using Heavenly King Li as a comparison was not very flattering, that was probably the most vivid explanation Sun Wukong could find.

The undying people disregard others, not even considering other lives to be on the same level as themselves.

Upon their first meeting, Sun Wukong immediately discovered that the Immortals viewed Chaos beings with the true eye of seeing ants.

Sun Wukong did not know where this mentality of the Immortals came from.

In Wanling City, an Immortal woman walked on a colorful path, disdainfully avoiding the dense crowds.

At this moment, Wanling City was enveloped by nightfall, with thousands of floating lanterns fluttering above the streets, illuminating the paths for every passerby.

During the days of Wukong's absence, these floating lanterns underwent a new transformation; they could even actively detect the needs of passersby and follow alongside them to light their way.

Yet all this convenience only served to infuriate the woman.

She had walked through Chaos, seen various Star Palaces, and knew that only a minority mastered Spells and had never seen a world where it was as widespread as in the Three Realms.

"Since the destruction of Hongmeng, such lanterns have been unprecedented in the world of mortals!"

"These people of the Star Palace are desecrating the Heavenly Dao!"

The other voices by her ear were even a bit anxious.

The woman came to a floating palace.

The palace was majestic and beautiful, only three meters off the ground; rather than there being no place to build, it seemed it floated intentionally, showcasing its construction technique.

A desire to destroy it flickered within the woman's eyes, which twinkled with starlight.

"Calm down, Nine."

"Go inside and have a look."

The voice by her ear soothed her.

The woman reined in the starlight and walked into the palace, which was densely packed with books and bustling with people, its four walls adorned with animated paintings that seemed to narrate the history of the past.

This was the Heavenly Dao Library.

The Immortals knew there were secrets of the Heavenly Dao hidden here, and had the woman investigate.

The Heavenly Dao Library had its own system, but in front of the woman, there was no privacy to speak of; all books were open to her, coming to her with but a gesture.

The woman learned and understood the Heavenly Dao in the library.

In just one night, she had a rough understanding of the Heavenly Dao.

However, the more she understood, the brighter the starlight in her eyes became, almost uncontrollable.

"This Heavenly Dao is too dangerous; it cannot be ignored."

The woman said, as starlight began to churn in her eyes.

Her companions were also angry: "These ants do not know the immensity of the sky, yet they dare to plunder the power of this world!"

The Immortals felt rage, for all beings in Chaos, in the former Hongmeng World, were ants unworthy of even having names.

These ants were not supposed to be capable of casting spells, yet somehow they survived the great catastrophe, took over the homes, and began to plunder power, giving birth to Immortals and Devils.

This would have been enough—but now, they dared to plunder even more power.

"We cannot let this Heavenly Dao continue to spread."

A voice by the woman's ear shouted, "If mortals continue to desecrate the power of Hongmeng, we will never be able to find our way home!"

"Everything in Chaos comes from the Totem, from the gifts of Hongmeng, yet these ants don't know gratitude or reverence."

"We must destroy their Heavenly Dao at once."

The Immortals said.

The woman nodded, her heart filled with the feeling that something precious had been defiled, just like her companions.

"We cannot make the same mistake again!"

At the same time, a fear emerged from the depths of the woman's heart.

After the destruction of Hongmeng, the emergence of Immortals and Demons in Chaos was beyond the Immortals' expectations.

The appearance of those with Great Divine Power altered the existing trajectory of the Immortals and even gave rise to beings beyond their control.

The Venerable—one such abomination born from their negligence.

The consequences were unimaginable if another such monster were to emerge.

The starlight in the woman's eyes boiled over, radiating light.

However, just then, a horrifying explosion sounded outside, causing the entire library to shake.

"Totem?"

The starlight in the woman's eyes vanished, and she turned to look.

"Why so many?"

Surprise was undeniable in her eyes.
