The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 99: How could we sit idly by?

Sun Wukong brought Golden Winged Great Peng back to Shuilian Cave.

The Demon Kings of Huaguo Mountain all ran over to watch, their gazes filled with curiosity.

"How come they all seem to recognize me?"

Golden Winged Great Peng felt somewhat elated inside; his renown had even reached the demons of Huaguo Mountain.

Sun Wukong then called for Mei Hu to come over and made Golden Winged Great Peng apologize to her.

Upon seeing Golden Winged Great Peng as meek as a sparrow, Mei Hu was immediately no longer afraid.

She gave Golden Winged Great Peng a "friendly" smile.

Golden Winged Great Peng was instantly captivated; she was so beautiful, beautiful like a love poem.

As the saying goes, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder," in Golden Winged Great Peng's eyes, Mei Hu's eyes were seductive and flirtatious, her cheeks flushed red as she walked up to him, placed a gift in his hands, and then turned away.

"This is for you."

That last remark also made Golden Winged Great Peng feel as if he were dreaming.

Watching Mei Hu leave Shuilian Cave, he thought to himself, was it possible that Mei Hu also had a soft spot for him, seeing that she gave him a gift upon their first encounter?

Golden Winged Great Peng looked down.

In his hand was a statue of himself, lifelike, and exquisitely crafted.

There was just one problem—he was dressed in women's clothing and was holding several small red flowers in his hands.

"Pfffhahaha..."

Some Demon Kings couldn't help but burst out laughing.

Mei Hu had been unhappy these days; to get revenge, she made a statue of Golden Winged Great Peng in female attire, to ruin his reputation.

"This statue hasn't been mass-produced yet." Bear Demon King stepped forward and said to Golden Winged Great Peng: "Brother, before it gets mass-produced, you better hurry and give Mei Hu more apologies, get her to forgive you..."

Golden Winged Great Peng's body stiffened somewhat.

And after his arrival, peace was once again restored to Huaguo Mountain.

A few days later, the ships of the Kingdom of Aolai arrived at Huaguo Mountain.

"Great King is currently hosting immortals."

Lady Rakshasa received the King; today there were immortals descending to the mortal realm, so Sun Wukong couldn't receive him at the moment.

The King was curious: "Which five immortals are here this year?"

"Five Virtues Star Monarch."

Lady Rakshasa answered, the immortals descending this time were five Star Monarchs wearing star crowns.

They were Water Virtues Star Monarch, Fire Virtue Star Monarch, Master Wood Star, Earth Virtues Star Monarch, and Gold Star Taibai.

Gold Star Taibai is the Golden Virtue Star Monarch; originally, Sun Wukong had invited the Deity of the Moon, but it seemed she had other pressing matters, so Gold Star Taibai replaced her.

"Usually, Gold Star Taibai descends to earth frequently, the Great King did not see the need to specially invite him."

Lady Rakshasa continued, "Gold Star Taibai had some complaints, the Great King arranged a banquet to apologize."

The King of Aolai nodded slightly: "If that's the case, then I'll visit later."

He and his guards boarded the carriage brought by Lady Rakshasa, flying up to Yunxiao City, where they began to enjoy the sights.

Yunxiao City, despite having risen not many years ago, was already as prosperous as Liu Fu Island; the King of Aolai enjoyed himself for half a day, envy filling his heart as he became even more resolute about the action he was about to take.

Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks.

"Ha ha ha ha."

A hearty laugh came from ahead: "Immortal, how do you find the food here?"

"Not bad, not bad!"

Golden Winged Great Peng and Bear Demon King were patrolling the streets together.

He carried two bags of Flowing Sand Buns, savoring the rich taste in his mouth, "I will no longer eat humans."

"What's so good about humans!" Bear Demon King declared: "They taste awful!"

"Mmm-hmm."

Golden Winged Great Peng nodded while eating his buns, unable to stop himself from enjoying the delicious taste.

"Is that..."

The King of Aolai watched as the two figures walked away, "Could that possibly be Golden Winged Great Peng?"

Lady Rakshasa nodded: "It is."

Sun Wukong instructed Golden Winged Great Peng and Bear Demon King to work together in disciplining some mischievous demons.

Originally, the Demon Kings were somewhat guarded against him, but Golden Winged Great Peng unexpectedly adapted to Huaguo Mountain—having tried all the taverns within a few days.

The King of the Kingdom of Aolai couldn't help but sigh, "The Grandmaster was right; technology can change everything."

Over the past twenty-plus years, he had witnessed time and again the benefits technology brought to Huaguo Mountain.

The King of the Kingdom of Aolai lingered until dusk before receiving a summons from Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong invited him to Shuilian Cave for dinner.

After dinner, Sun Wukong finally asked about the purpose of his visit.

"Grandmaster."

The King of the Kingdom of Aolai stood up and respectfully performed a bow to Sun Wukong: "I would like to ask you to establish a Spiritual Network for the Kingdom of Aolai and impart some of your Daoist Skills to us."

Upon hearing this, the other demons present were all startled.

"Big brother."

Ao Luan directed his gaze at Sun Wukong—this was not a request that could be easily granted.

"We've finally come to this point."

Sun Wukong thought to himself, yet his expression remained unchanged.

He took a sip of tea, stood up, and said, "Come, walk with me outside."

Sun Wukong led the King of the Kingdom of Aolai out of Shuilian Cave for a stroll in the mountain forest under the night sky.

"Why have you had such a thought?"

He asked.

"A few days ago, Grandmaster, you were competing with Golden Winged Great Peng over the East Sea."

The King of the Kingdom of Aolai followed behind Sun Wukong and spoke: "It truly terrified me."

On the first day of the competition between Sun Wukong and Golden Winged Great Peng, the waves stirred up by their fight reached the Kingdom of Aolai, instilling fear in all humans.

Although they were protected by dragon scions and the Kingdom of Aolai suffered no damage, the impact of a battle hundreds of miles away made the King feel powerless due to his nation's weakness.

As the trade hub between Huaguo Mountain and the human world, the Kingdom of Aolai had prospered over the years. The King hoped to establish a Spiritual Network similar to that of Huaguo Mountain and learn Daoist Skills, to protect his people from harm.

"So it is..."

Sun Wukong understood.

Inadvertently, he had facilitated this situation—an unintentional outcome that wasn't a bad thing.

But in terms of timing, the idea was still premature; Sun Wukong was not yet fully prepared.

Should he agree?

Sun Wukong fell into deep thought.

He had to consider the ripple effects this would have on the Four Great Continents, as well as the Heavenly Palace.

Unconsciously, Sun Wukong followed a woodland path, leading the King of the Kingdom of Aolai to a cliff.

A gentle breeze wafted as moonlight shimmered like water.

Sun Wukong looked ahead, Huaguo Mountain's nightscape unfolding before him.

Suddenly, he remembered many, many years ago, when he too had walked a similar night path with his Grandmaster.

Sun Wukong's eyes softened.

"Have you thought this through thoroughly?"

He asked, his back to the King of the Kingdom of Aolai.

Establishing a Spiritual Network, imparting Daoist Skills—it would change much that was already established, not only for Huaguo Mountain but for the Kingdom of Aolai as well. It would have a profound impact.

If the people began to wield power, what would become of the Kingdom of Aolai's royal authority in the future?

Sun Wukong knew that the King of the Kingdom of Aolai had undoubtedly considered these issues.

"..."

The King of the Kingdom of Aolai fell silent for a moment, then nodded: "Grandmaster, I have thought it through."

"You have ambition."

Sun Wukong turned around, his smile blossoming: "I am pleased."

If even a mortal possesses such resolve, he, already an Immortal, certainly cannot sit idly by.
