Urban Soldier Young Master

Chapter 84: Torrential Rain

As someone who has read countless books, Qin Ruojing reads very quickly, almost on par with Chu Ge.

In just a few minutes, Qin Ruojing had read through the script Chu Ge had organized from beginning to end, and to her surprise and delight, she hadn't found a single error.

If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, she would have found it hard to believe how high Chu Ge's work efficiency was.

After confirming everything was fine, Qin Ruojing stored the script in the Operation Management Department's safe and deleted the script files from Chu Ge's computer.

It wasn't that she didn't trust Chu Ge, but she didn't trust the others who shared the office with him.

After shutting down Chu Ge's computer and putting the USB drive in her bag, she glanced around the room to ensure nothing was left behind, turned off the lights, and walked out of the office.

"You're done checking?" Seeing Qin Ruojing casually closing the door, Chu Ge was surprisingly astonished, having thought she'd take at least another ten minutes to finish reading the script.

"Yeah, Comrade Xiao Chu did a great job, worthy of praise. Today, because you've worked so hard, whatever you want to eat, I'll treat you. Then I'll drive you home."

With the script confirmed to be fine, Qin Ruojing beamed with joy, but she didn't mention buying something for Chu Ge.

It was an odd feeling; she felt a bit awkward knowing Tong Yaqi had brought Chu Ge pizza, and she had bought pizza too.

"Come on, it's so late already, let's skip the meal; just take me home to sleep. Also, could we perhaps skip the verbal praise and offer some overtime pay instead?"

If it were anyone else, they'd be thrilled to have the CEO as a driver, but Chu Ge didn't find it a big deal. After all, having lived abroad for years, it was quite common for bosses in the U.S. and Europe to occasionally drive their subordinates.

Seeing Chu Ge's indifferent attitude, Qin Ruojing found it both amusing and exasperating. But she knew the workload was indeed hefty and anyone would be exhausted, so she nodded and agreed.

However, as they both entered the elevator, back in the Operation Management Department office, the extension cord connected to the microwave and printer suddenly made a "snap" sound.

Rumble!

As they reached the first floor, a sudden thunderclap exploded in the sky, lightning streaked across the dark night, illuminating it as if it were daytime. Soon after, a downpour began, with raindrops rapidly hitting the hard asphalt, splashing up little sprays.

This was the first rain since the Dragon Boat Festival. Chu Ge looked at the small puddles forming on the ground and then at the Five-Colored Rope still tied around his wrist and ankle, feeling a genuine smile spread across his face.

They say there's no place like home, and no water tastes as sweet as hometown water. Having lived abroad for years, enduring a life full of uncertainties, he couldn't remember the last time he took such simple pleasure in watching the post-Dragon Boat Festival rain.

Seeing the smile on Chu Ge's face, Qin Ruojing felt puzzled. It's just rain. What could make him so happy?

"Chu Ge, what are you smiling about?"

"It's raining. I can untie the Five-Colored Rope and put it in a puddle."

"For something like that? You're not a child, why are you so happy?"

Upon hearing this, Qin Ruojing felt a bit speechless, though she was also somehow touched by the joy on Chu Ge's face, and the rain scene in front of her seemed to turn into something beautiful.

"Absolutely, you don't get it."

Chu Ge chuckled, and at the entrance of Tianjiao Group's building, he removed the Five-Colored Rope from his wrists and ankles. He noticed Qin Ruojing's right wrist and ankle, which also wore the Five-Colored Rope he had tied for her.

Following Chu Ge's gaze, Qin Ruojing remembered those days they spent at home. Somehow, a wave of nostalgia washed over her, and she smiled back at Chu Ge, untying her two Five-Colored Ropes.

"Shall we go?"

"Let's go."

Just as they were about to step into the rain and toss the Five-Colored Rope into the puddle, Qin Ruojing's phone suddenly rang. Seeing who was calling, Qin Ruojing and Chu Ge exchanged a knowing smile, though there was a hint of helplessness in their eyes.

"Hello? Sis, it's raining here. I'm about to toss the Five-Colored Rope. Is it raining over there?"

"Yes, it is. Your brother-in-law and I are about to toss ours too." Qin Ruojing replied with a smile, barely noticing how naturally she referred to him as "your brother-in-law."

"Can I have a word with my brother-in-law? I've been craving his cooking ever since you both left."

Hearing her sister's words made Qin Ruojing realize why recent meals tasted so bland. Like her sister, she had become accustomed to Chu Ge's cooking.

"Here, Ruoying wants to talk to you."

As Qin Ruojing handed over the phone, she mused over when she'd next get to eat Chu Ge's cooking.

"Brother-in-law, want to hear a secret?"

"Hmm?"

"Hehe, I'm debating whether to do a surprise check on you guys tonight. Do you think I'll actually do it, actually do it, or actually do it? If both you and my sister turn off your phones, hehe..."

Qin Ruoying's voice suddenly cut off at that point. Chu Ge glanced at the disconnected call and touched his nose, feeling speechless inside.

"What's wrong?" Seeing Chu Ge had a wry smile on his face, Qin Ruojing couldn't help but ask.

"Your sister said she's considering checking on us in the middle of the night, and she wanted me to guess whether she'd really do it. She also mentioned if we turned off our phones..."

"What if we turn off our phones?"

Chu Ge shrugged helplessly, "I don't know, she hung up before finishing her sentence."

The smile on Qin Ruojing's face also turned into a wry smile. She knew her sister too well, and although she didn't know exactly what her sister would do, it definitely wouldn't be anything good.

In fact, Qin Ruojing had always been worried that her sister would pull something like this, and now her fears had indeed come true.

"What should we do?"

"What else can we do? What do you think?" Qin Ruojing sighed helplessly. Although she already had an answer in her heart, after all, she was a girl, how could she easily say such things out loud?

"Sigh, it looks like I'll just have to stay over at your place," Chu Ge also sighed, feeling utterly resigned.

Seeing the expression on Chu Ge's face as if he had been wronged, the bit of anxiety in Qin Ruojing's heart instantly turned into annoyance.

"Why are you sighing along with me? It's as if staying at my place is such a big grievance for you. Do you know, no man has ever entered my house over here."

"Can I not sigh? Up until now, you haven't even discussed the cost of after-sales service with me. I don't owe you anything. Helping you is a favor, not helping is my duty, don't you agree?"

Chu Ge's words instantly choked Qin Ruojing, because that was indeed the case. Although she couldn't help but feel awkward hearing it.

"See, you have to admit it, right? And even leaving that aside, considering I'm one of your subordinates, I've only been working here for a few days, and you've already got me working overtime this late. If I stay with you, with your workaholic lifestyle, won't you make me work around the clock?"

Looking at Chu Ge's expression of exaggerated grievance, Qin Ruojing felt even more speechless.

"And plus, look..."

"Alright, stop with the 'and plus.' Once we get home, I'll pay you the overtime fee for today directly."

"Hehe, that's more like it."

Chu Ge's face changed as dramatically as if he had flipped a switch. One moment he was listing grievances with his fingers, and the next he was grinning from ear to ear, as if a serf had been liberated.

Seeing Chu Ge's radiant smile, Qin Ruojing felt a sense of being duped. But before she could say anything, Chu Ge had already walked into the rain, placing four Five-Colored Ropes into a small puddle on the road.

Qin Ruojing rubbed her forehead and quickly walked into the rain as well, placing the Five-Colored Ropes into the puddle, and then ran towards her Audi A8.

As Qin Ruojing was running, the raindrops above her head suddenly seemed to stop. She paused for a moment, looked up, and found that Chu Ge had taken off his jacket to cover her head, shielding her from the drenching rain.

"Thank you."

Qin Ruojing came back to her senses, feeling a warmth in her heart, and said instinctively.

"What are you daydreaming about? Run quickly. If you get sick, and something happens to the company, and it goes bankrupt, who will I get my salary from?"

Just as the warmth began to well up in her heart, it was completely dispelled by Chu Ge's words. Seeing that trademark smile on his face, Qin Ruojing immediately had the urge to kick him aside.

With a bellyful of frustration from being teased by Chu Ge, Qin Ruojing unlocked the Audi A8 and directly got into the passenger seat.

"Didn't you say you'd drive for me?" In the driver's seat, Chu Ge glanced at Qin Ruojing somewhat puzzled.

"I just changed my mind!" Qin Ruojing said with a stern face.

"Tsk tsk, not even a bit of integrity. How do you manage as a chairman?" Seeing Qin Ruojing even more frustrated, Chu Ge couldn't help but laugh heartily, greatly amused.

As Chu Ge stomped on the gas pedal, the Audi A8 sped through the rainstorm.

Meanwhile, as Chu Ge drove away with Qin Ruojing, a faint light appeared in the Operation Management Department's office.
