The Supreme Beauty Fell in Love with Me

Chapter 136: Petty Tricks

"You're really too cocky, kid." Luo Guoqing gave Lin Chuan a glare, saying, "I know you're skilled, but an open spear is easy to dodge, a hidden arrow is hard to defend against. Don't you even understand this basic common sense?"

"I do." Lin Chuan nodded, saying, "But, I just can't stand these two brothers, doing sneaky, underhanded things all day, I can't bear to watch it anymore."

"You still have to endure it." Luo Guoqing said solemnly, "I know you have a sense of chivalry, but you still have to understand the severity of the situation. Just because Song Ming doesn't want to deal with you now doesn't mean he won't want to in the future."

"Don't worry about that." Lin Chuan smiled, "Song Ming definitely won't act against me just for these two good-for-nothing nephews."

"Now you think you're righteous?" Luo Guoqing chuckled.

.........

The clinic downstairs.

It seemed that Song Wen's broken tooth couldn't be saved. Either it needed to be filled, or pulled out and replaced. Otherwise, the broken tooth would cause his speech to whistle. After agonizing over the decision for a while, he gritted his teeth and said, "Fill it, use the best material you've got."

"Rest assured." The dentist nodded, "We'll use the best filling material available, but it's a long process that will take some time. After all, such fill materials need time to set. However, I'd still recommend removing the remaining half of your tooth and getting a dental implant, a porcelain tooth which would restore it to its original state."

"Does tooth extraction hurt?" Song Wen asked.

"We'll use anesthetic," the dentist said with a smile.

"Never mind, just fill it." Song Wen felt helpless, the thought of the dentist yanking out teeth with a hammer and pliers gave him the shivers.

The dentist followed his wishes, filled the broken tooth, and advised him not to chew on hard foods in the near future. He should eat a soft diet and chew as little as possible. Moreover, he was cautioned not to brush his teeth for a short period, or it could cause the tooth to fall out.

Who would have thought that such bad luck would come from a stumble? Song Wen was furious enough to gnash his remaining teeth.

"Old Two, I can't swallow this anger," Song Wen seethed with anger.

"What are we gonna do?" Song Wu asked, cigarette dangling from his lips.

"Damn it, let's ask Mr. Hu for help," Song Wen took a deep breath and then said, "We absolutely cannot let this go; I feel enraged."

Click...

Song Wu took a deep drag of his cigarette, and said, "We really need to sort out Lin Chuan properly. Otherwise, where will we brothers put our faces?"

"Ever since that guy arrived, we've never had a good day," Song Wen fumed, "That son of a bitch oppresses us every other day. Uncle told us not to stir up trouble, but this time we'll ask Mr. Hu for help. Get some tough guys, bag him, and give him a good beating."

"Hmm." Song Wu nodded, saying, "We'll use the same method on him we used on Luo Guoqing last time."

"Alright." Song Wen nodded, saying, "After work, let's go to Qinghua Pool, see if Mr. Hu will take our side."

The two brothers made up their minds right then and there.

Although Li Minghua didn't make a sound, he listened to everything intently. On the way back, Li Minghua seized the chance to go to the bathroom and secretly sent a text message to Lin Chuan, warning him to be careful as the Song brothers were plotting against him in secret.

Lin Chuan immediately deleted the message after reading it. First, to prevent others from discovering it, and second, because he simply didn't care. If the Song brothers dared to lay a hand on him, he could use the opportunity to teach them a good lesson. Let them taste his prowess and also avenge Luo Guoqing while he was at it.

Lin Chuan smiled, "Even a dog jumps over the wall when cornered."

"What?" Luo Guoqing blinked, asking, "Did Li Minghua send a message?"

"Yeah." Lin Chuan nodded, "You should be more careful."

"It was you who acted, not me." Luo Guoqing said nonchalantly, with a cigarette in his mouth, "I've had my leg broken by them once, and due to my issue, Vice Secretary Song has warned them too. I guess they don't dare to do anything to me, but you're different, Vice Secretary Song also looks at you with disdain. So, you better be cautious."

"I'm not afraid." Lin Chuan shook his head, "If soldiers come, the general will block; if water comes, earth will cover."

It's not because he had the support of Tang Yumeng behind him, but because Lin Chuan innately had an indomitable spirit. Forget the Song brothers, even if it were Song Ming himself, so what? Honestly, compared to those who had died at his hands, Song Ming's little position was nothing. It could be a head of state, a terrorist magnate, a drug lord... all of them were much more powerful than Song Ming, and also much craftier.

Dealing with someone like Song Ming, just the presence of someone from the Discipline Inspection Committee would send him running scared. Why would he even need to take action? He wouldn't want to dirty his dagger with the blood of such corrupt officials. Lin Chuan was utterly disdainful.

The ambiguous attitude of Tang Yumeng made Lin Chuan somewhat conflicted. He wasn't quite sure if she agreed with him or not.

However, from her attitude, it seems she hasn't rejected me just yet. That is to say, she probably still has a good impression of me. So why doesn't she accept my confession? Lin Chuan is extremely baffled by this. Women are indeed peculiar creatures. It's hard to know what to do with them.

After work, Lin Chuan heads home.

Now, this Beijing Jeep has become Lin Chuan's ride. And truth be told, the performance of the car is quite good, especially after Zhou Kai made some modifications to it, significantly enhancing its capabilities. This made Lin Chuan feel more at ease while driving.

The skies of winter grew darker still, and by the time work ended, it had turned to night with streetlights flickering on.

Lin Chuan drove up to the gate of the Changlin Factory community. A Volkswagen Touareg was parked across the entrance of Changlin Community. Several unfamiliar faces stood nearby. Judging by their stance, they were clearly up to no good. Lin Chuan cracked a sly smile, rolled down his window, and said, "What is this, a mugging in the middle of the night?"

A burly man toyed with a switchblade in his hand and slowly approached Lin Chuan, saying, "Are you Lin Chuan?"

"My name remains the same whether I stand or sit; I am indeed Lin Chuan," Lin Chuan nodded.

"Get out of the car!" The burly man narrowed his eyes.

"May I ask what advice you have for me?" Lin Chuan asked curiously.

"Our boss wants to see you," the burly man said coldly, almost gesturing with the switchblade right in front of Lin Chuan.

"Who's your boss?" Lin Chuan asked with a light smile, composed as he spoke: "I don't know him, so why should I bother meeting him?"

"You!" A glint flashed in the burly man's eyes as the switchblade he was playing with suddenly flew towards Lin Chuan.

Lin Chuan didn't move an inch, not even blinking, as the switchblade whizzed past his face and, after a loop, returned to the burly man's hand. Surprised, the burly man looked at Lin Chuan, not expecting him to be so fearless. He gave a respectful gesture, saying, "Impressive!"

"Child's play!" Lin Chuan scoffed as he jumped out of the car.

Just as the burly man was about to get angry, Lin Chuan snatched away his switchblade, flicking it casually.

Snap...

The switchblade instantly stuck into a large tree ten meters away. Lin Chuan smiled and said, "Left eye."

The burly man was stunned, not understanding Lin Chuan's meaning. He scoffed derisively, "What is this supposed to be..."

He ran over to retrieve the switchblade and when he saw it, he was dumbfounded. The tip of the switchblade had actually pierced the left eye of a reptile, which was still struggling beneath it. The burly man swallowed hard, realizing he was showing off his axe at the door of a master carpenter.

Clap clap clap...

Suddenly, the back door of the Touareg opened, followed by a surge of crisp applause.

A man in a black coat stepped out, with a conspicuous scar on his left eyebrow, wearing a felt hat, and shiny leather shoes on his feet. This man was Mr. Hu, the owner of Qinghua Pool. He was practically the ruler of the entire eastern district of the city, his strength was naturally not to be underestimated.

"Are you Mr. Hu?" Lin Chuan asked.

"You impertinent fool, watch your language!" barked another burly man standing by the car's hood: "Show some respect when you're in the presence of Mr. Hu."

"Young man, it's common to be ignorant," Mr. Hu smiled and said, "Lin Chuan, you are young, so I won't hold it against you."

"What do you want with me?" Lin Chuan, calm and unhurried, lit a cigarette and stood in front of Mr. Hu. Although the man had an air of murderous intent, this had no effect on Lin Chuan.

Mr. Hu was baffled as well. Having been in the underworld for decades and having taken countless lives, he had naturally developed a fearsome aura. Normally, people would turn pale with fear upon seeing him. New girls at the Qinghua Pool, during their tests, would be frightened half to death by his presence, forgetting all their moves and poses. Yet, Lin Chuan stood before him utterly composed, calmly lighting a cigarette. Seeing this poise, Mr. Hu felt his trip had not been wasted.

Clearly, Mr. Hu appreciated Lin Chuan's calm and confident demeanor.

"I've come to talk business with you today," Mr. Hu said with an open smile.

"Lately, there have been too many people wanting to talk to me," Lin Chuan quipped: "I'm afraid... you might have to get in line."

"You insolent cur!" The burly man who had been playing with the switchblade cursed loudly: "You're nothing special. Mr. Hu personally seeking you out is already a huge favor, yet you're not appreciative. Be careful, or one day you won't even know how you died."

Lin Chuan gave him a sidelong glare. The burly man instantly fell silent. Lin Chuan's gaze was full of horror and terror, the kind of murderous aura that couldn't accumulate from just killing one or two, or even a dozen men. It was something built up over many years, having taken countless lives.
