The Supreme Beauty Fell in Love with Me

Chapter 236: Tang Yumeng in Danger

"Wait for me at Wujiang." Tang Yumeng replied with a sentence.

Lin Chuan floored the accelerator, heading straight for the highway toll station. When the toll booth staff saw the Jiangbei City's No. 1 plate, they immediately raised the barrier without daring to stop him. They could remember almost all the official license plates, except for some obscure ones which would require the driver to present a corresponding pass. However, if they couldn't even recognize the No. 1 plate, they might as well quit their jobs.

Once on the highway, the car sped towards Jiangbei City at a high speed.

"Secretary Tang, I have to say, of all people, why let a bunch of Japanese develop Wujiang?" Lin Chuan asked curiously.

"Who's interested?" Tang Yumeng laughed and said, "Only the Zhu Corporation is eyeing that piece of land."

"I'm puzzled, why are these Japanese interested in that bird-crap place?" Lin Chuan continued to ask with curiosity, "That place is just a mountain ravine; there are at least hundreds, if not thousands, of such places in China. Why have they set their sights on Wujiang? There's no transportation advantage, no geographical advantage."

"I am equally baffled," Tang Yumeng said with a wry smile. "I had my doubts at first too, but the other party has already given Wujiang City a ten million yen earnest deposit. What can we say to that?"

"Fishy!" Lin Chuan exclaimed forcefully.

"Who uses money for jokes?" Tang Yumeng asked with a laugh.

"Maybe what they care about isn't the money," Lin Chuan chuckled tauntingly.

"That's..." Tang Yumeng looked at Lin Chuan in astonishment and said, "I really don't know either, so I need to make a trip there especially. Otherwise, I can't figure it out myself. I don't dare to make arbitrary decisions; otherwise, I would be committing treason."

"That makes sense." Lin Chuan nodded.

Lin Chuan has always been rather casual about driving. Since it's the No. 1 plate, he would drive however it pleased him. Speeding tickets were irrelevant; no fines needed to be paid. Once in the traffic police system, all official vehicles' fines and violations would be automatically filtered out and exempted from payment.

Still, with such high speed, there had been cars following behind all this time, which made Lin Chuan a bit puzzled. Moreover, those two black cars even had Jiangbei City license plates, obviously following all the way from Jiangbei City. Lin Chuan thought it might just be a coincidence, so he immediately slowed down. As soon as he did, the other vehicles also slowly reduced their speed.

This immediately raised Lin Chuan's suspicions.

The journey from Jiangbei City to Wujiang was just about an hour by car, and there were about two exits on the highway, one of which was the Kowloon Mountain exit. Kowloon Mountain is a small city between Jiangbei City and Wujiang, with a population of about 300,000 and a modest economy. Originally, Kowloon Mountain did not have a highway, but after persistent lobbying, China Railway Second Bureau reluctantly opened an exit there, directly connecting a broad road to Kowloon Mountain's urban area.

After passing the Kowloon Mountain ramp, the two cars were nowhere to be seen.

"Am I being paranoid?" Lin Chuan wondered.

The cars that had been following him for nearly twenty minutes had taken the Kowloon Mountain ramp. Could it be that they were not intentionally following him? Just as Lin Chuan thought he was off the hook, suddenly, a huge rear eight-wheeled truck appeared in the rearview mirror. This Hercules rear eight-wheeler was loaded full of gravel, and moreover, had added boards so that the gravel was piled even higher.

Loaded with a full load of gravel, this rear eight-wheeler's speed was pretty fast, its velocity approaching 100 mph.

Lin Chuan was puzzled, as rear eight-wheelers typically wouldn't dare to drive so fast when overloaded, given that on the highway, brake failure could lead to certain death. To avoid this dangerous behemoth, Lin Chuan decided to speed up and get away.

However, after driving less than five kilometers, he noticed a problem ahead. A freight train carrying goods had crashed into the central green belt of the highway, with a deformed front and its cargo containers tilted and fallen over onto the ground, spilling goods all over. The driver was frantically making calls at the scene, having not even had the chance to set up the safety warning signs.

"Not good." Lin Chuan immediately had a bad premonition.

He hurriedly started to brake, and as the car came to a halt, the rear eight-wheeler behind was already rushing up at high speed.

"Ah, behind... behind!" Xiao Xue seemed to have spotted the oncoming rear eight-wheeler barreling towards them with great speed.

"What's going on?" Tang Yumeng also broke out in a cold sweat.

The fully loaded rear eight-wheeler was charging towards Lin Chuan's Audi with a speed exceeding 100 mph. Should a collision occur, the Audi would undoubtedly be sandwiched into minced meat between the collapsed freight truck ahead and the fast-approaching rear eight-wheeler from behind.

"Hold tight." Lin Chuan gritted his teeth; he stomped on the gas pedal fiercely, and the engine of the Audi roared to life. Lin Chuan decisively released the handbrake, and the car instantly burst out. Lin Chuan jerked the steering wheel hard.

Screech...

The rear four-wheel drive played a huge role at this moment, propelling the car forward as the two rear run-flat tires left a strong scent of charred rubber on the ground. The intense smell was almost like a whiff of danger itself.

Roar...

The engine burst into massive torque, sharply increasing the car's speed.

However, the eight-wheeler following behind seemed unwilling to concede. It was like a colossal beast that had its prey within reach, ready to devour it at any moment. Lin Chuan clenched his teeth; this was a race against time. Unfortunately, the Audi was simply too heavy; despite its immense torque and power, it could not overcome the weight of the car itself.

"It's over, it's over." Xiao Xue clutched her chest, screaming loudly, "It's coming!!!"

The opponent was a hundred meters away, charging towards their car at a speed of over a hundred kilometers per hour. And Lin Chuan's Audi was trying to evade such a ferocious, intense, high-speed beast from a standstill—a near-impossible feat.

Tang Yumeng was also breaking out in a cold sweat.

As she saw the fierce beast rushing towards them, the Audi had already begun to turn, with the overloaded eight-wheeler just tens of meters away. At speeds of over a hundred kilometers per hour, such a distance was practically nothing for the eight-wheeler.

"Lin Chuan!" Tang Yumeng screamed.

Screech screech screech...

The Audi's rear tires rubbed against the ground, emanating a series of charred smells that filled the car, making Xiao Xue choke. Lin Chuan was also sweating profusely; at this point, failing to escape would likely mean three lives on his hands.

Boom...

Then a tremendous vibration followed by a loud noise came from behind. It was almost as loud as the sound of an earthquake. Xiao Xue was so frightened that she dove under the seat, curling up beneath it. Meanwhile, Tang Yumeng slumped in her seat, completely drained.

At that critical moment, Lin Chuan demonstrated incredible driving skills.

Although the eight-wheeler eventually hit the Audi, it only managed to smash one of the taillights. A broken taillight was inconsequential compared to three lives. Lin Chuan astonishingly swung the car's rear wheels out from a stationary position, requiring extremely calm thinking and proficient driving skills. Others might have only thought to reverse a few meters and then maneuver a turn away.

But for such a long vehicle, making a turn on a two-lane highway was a strenuous task. Not only would it be time-consuming and strenuous, but danger also lurked right behind them. Furthermore, even if you tried to turn, the eight-wheeler could judge and accurately ram into you during the slow turning process; even if you managed to turn, it would likely be to no avail.

Lin Chuan's idea was to escape, but how? Only by moving unpredictably could he evade capture. Thus, he had to be unexpected. Lin Chuan kept pulling the handbrake and revving the engine, trying to produce the car's maximum torque and power in an instant. This way, he could dodge the incoming collision the moment it happened.

It must be said, Lin Chuan succeeded!

When the eight-wheeler hit the Audi's taillight, although it caused a severe tremor, fortunately, the car was heavy and nothing serious happened.

"Are we okay now?" Xiao Xue emerged from under the seat, her face pale.

"Yes." Lin Chuan nodded, quickly wiping the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve, saying, "We're fine now, we've escaped disaster. Those who survive a catastrophe are destined for good fortune."

"My God." Tang Yumeng was stunned, amazed by the scene before her.

The heavy eight-wheeler, after hitting the accident-stricken cargo truck, immediately kicked up a cloud of dust. Dozens, if not hundreds of tons of gravel fell, effectively blocking both lanes of the highway. The collision between the eight-wheeler and the cargo truck's container was so violent that the eight-wheeler's driver was killed instantly, while the cargo truck's driver had already escaped to the other side of the guardrail. He witnessed everything firsthand.

He was thrilled about the Audi's escape, yet regretted his own container being destroyed. At least his life was spared.

"My God." The cargo driver was dumbfounded.

The piled sand completely blocked the two lanes and even accumulated into a thick mound on one of the lanes.

"Lin Chuan, what... what should we do?" Tang Yumeng asked in shock.

"This was a premeditated murder." Lin Chuan coolly analyzed.
