Rescuing people was simple, just a matter of a few words.
Actually, they didn't really want a fight to the death; they just wanted to get control over the troublemakers. Once Lin Chuan, the ringleader, arrived, they were happy to release the captives, after securing a few promises.
Those villagers who had been detained were also released, and Gou Dan, despite being injured, was still as sly as ever.
"Master," Gou Dan chuckled.
"You all right, kid?" Lin Chuan patted Gou Dan's buzzcut.
"I'm fine." Gou Dan touched his arm and said, "It's just a bit swollen, nothing else."
"That's good," Lin Chuan nodded in response.
Once Gou Dan and the others were rescued, the villagers of Dragon Spring Village followed Zhao Zhonghai back to Dragon Spring Village.
...
When Tang Yumeng woke up, it was already afternoon. She hadn't woken up on her own, but rather was lured awake by the fragrant smell wafting from the room. She hadn't eaten properly for the past few days. Now, the tempting aroma of food had roused her out of sleep.
"It smells so good," Tang Yumeng opened her eyes, inhaling the scent in the air.
Tang Yumeng hurriedly got out of bed, feeling a bit light-headed as she did so. Looking down, she realized that her clothes had been removed. Though she was still wearing her undershirt, the thin fabric couldn't conceal her voluptuous figure. Her face flushed with embarrassment; she quickly wrapped herself in her jacket, slipped on her shoes, and walked out.
Outside the door, Lin Chuan was carrying out a freshly cooked plate of spicy chicken from the kitchen.
"Sis, you're up?" Lin Chuan said with a smile.
"You…" Tang Yumeng looked at Lin Chuan. "You cooked?"
"Yeah," Lin Chuan nodded. "I figured you'd be waking up around this time and knew you'd be a bit hungry, so I made a few dishes for you. Do you think they'll suit your taste?"
Looking at herself, disheveled and dirty, Tang Yumeng was far from feeling like a goddess. She said awkwardly, "I haven't even brushed my teeth or washed my face yet?"
"No problem, I've prepared a new toothbrush and towel for you," Lin Chuan said with a smile.
"Okay," Tang Yumeng nodded.
"Sis, go freshen up," Lin Chuan said, pinching Tang Yumeng's nose. "I'm sorry for the simple conditions at my place, so please don't be picky. The brushing station is just outside the door, and I've placed some water for you to wash your face in the washroom. If you want to take a shower, that's also possible!"
"No, I'll just freshen up a bit." She still wasn't accustomed to such rudimentary conditions.
"Alright then," said Lin Chuan, not insisting. He headed back into the kitchen.
Before long, five dishes were served on the table, each of them full of color, fragrance, and flavor. Though not comparable to a five-star hotel's chef, Lin Chuan's cooking was definitely top-notch. The taste was undoubtedly good, and besides, the dishes at five-star hotels are more about looks than flavor.
After a brief clean-up, the weariness on Tang Yumeng's face was swept away thanks to the nap. She looked like a blooming lotus, captivating to behold.
"Sis, you look so beautiful," Lin Chuan said with a smile.
"Hmph," Tang Yumeng snorted. "Am I as pretty as Fang Yuan?"
"Uh…" Lin Chuan's face was a picture of embarrassment. "Fang Yuan and I are just friends, sis, why do you keep bringing that up?"
"How can I not mention it?" Tang Yumeng said coldly. "That woman is not simple. You'd better be careful not to be sold out and help count the money afterward."
"I know, I know," Lin Chuan quickly nodded. "Hurry up and eat."
Lin Chuan had already served Tang Yumeng some rice.
Tang Yumeng curiously asked, "The dishes look good, but how do they taste?"
"Of course they're good," Lin Chuan said with a smile. "My cooking skills have been trained."
"You've learned how to cook?" Tang Yumeng asked.
"No," Lin Chuan shook his head.
It wasn't because Lin Chuan had intentionally learned to cook, but because he had made a mistake while in the army and was thrown into the logistics unit, winding up working in the canteen. He was forced to be a cook for a few months. Those months certainly boosted Lin Chuan's culinary skills, as he learned from the chefs in the army—specifically, a commander's personal chef. Although it was only half-learned, that was more than enough for Lin Chuan to use for a lifetime.
Tang Yumeng took a bite and couldn't help but exclaim, "Wow, this is really good."
"Hehe, tasty, right?" Lin Chuan grinned.
"Yes, not bad," Tang Yumeng nodded eagerly. "I didn't expect you to be such a good cook. Delicious."
Tang Yumeng began to eat voraciously, bite after bite. Lin Chuan had always seen her as very ladylike, and this was the first time he had seen Tang Yumeng eat so heartily. As she ate, she praised, "Really good, indeed."
After two bowls of rice, Tang Yumeng finally felt full.
"Sister, want some more? Come on, let's keep eating. Today, we'll stuff ourselves and laze around at home, no work," Lin Chuan suggested.
