"Brother, wait for me."
Seeing Chen Nan walking toward the cave entrance, Shi Fanzhen sent a thought transmission and quickly caught up.
Behind them, Black Feathered Chicken also followed closely. The two men and the chicken, while being cautious of their surroundings, entered the Cold Spring Cave. Especially for Chen Nan, his feelings were indescribably excited.
Once inside the Cold Spring Cave, it was a narrow tunnel; winding and twisting, its depth unknown.
The two men and the chicken kept walking forward, but this underwater tunnel seemed endless; they walked at least a thousand meters and were still in the tunnel. However, the tunnel gradually started to slope upwards, and moving forward, it was obvious that the path led upward.
After walking about another two thousand meters, Chen Nan could clearly feel the water pressure weakening. Clearly, as they continued to ascend, they were getting closer to the surface.
But at this moment, two paths appeared ahead; the tunnel split into two.
"Brother, which way should we go?" Shi Fanzhen looked at Chen Nan.
Chen Nan looked at Black Feathered Chicken and transmitted, "One of these paths might be a dead end. Dead chicken, you have some expertise in things like Qimen Dunjia; can you discern anything?"
Black Feathered Chicken stepped forward, stared at the entrance of the two paths for a moment, then shook its head helplessly: "Chen boy, your luck is usually good; it's better for you to choose."
Clearly, it also couldn't tell which was the better path.
Chen Nan smiled bitterly; it seemed they would have to rely on luck. He strode forward to the left-hand tunnel.
He had only just walked in a hundred steps or so when he heard a "boom" as rocks flew around inside the cave, the entire roof shaking violently and starting to collapse downward.
It was unclear how long the tunnel was; the weight of the above ceiling was immeasurable. If it fell, the two men and the chicken would likely be crushed into pulp. Shi Fanzhen yelled and swung his two Drumming Golden Hammer up, smashing at the falling ceiling.
"Boom"
Debris fell, but the descent of the cave's ceiling didn't slow at all.
Chen Nan's face changed dramatically; he knew Shi Fanzhen's strength. The pair of hammers alone weighed a million pounds, plus his own strength, this strike must have several tens of millions of pounds of force. Yet, it couldn't make a dent in the giant rock above.
"Brother, what do we do?"
Shi Fanzhen, panicked, forgot he was underwater and accidentally swallowed water when he spoke.
The giant rock was grazing the sides of the tunnel, falling slowly rather than crashing down, so its speed wasn't very fast. Chen Nan immediately summoned the Divine Ship. The two brothers and the chicken quickly boarded the ship, and Chen Nan steered it forward.
Though the resistance in the water was substantial, it didn't affect the Divine Ship much.
On either side of the Divine Ship, sparks flew when it rubbed against the cave walls. Chen Nan pushed the speed to its limit; only by reaching the exit before the rock fell could they save their lives. Otherwise, they would surely be crushed.
But if there wasn't an exit ahead, and it was a dead end, the consequences would be unpredictable.
"Kid, are you crazy? Turn around and retreat; there might not be a way out up ahead!" Black Feathered Chicken screamed.
Chen Nan didn't slow down, staying calm: "Didn't you say I was lucky? I believe this is the right path, and there must be an exit not far ahead."
At this moment, it truly was a life-and-death escape.
Finally, when the giant rock was about to touch the ship's top, an exit appeared in front of them. At the very last moment when the rock fell, they were saved.
Chen Nan was shocked; they almost lost their lives there.
But when they got off the ship and looked back at the tunnel they just escaped from, they found no giant rock on the ground. The rock that had fallen simply disappeared after falling, and the tunnel was unobstructed and completely restored as before.
How could this be?
As Chen Nan pondered, Black Feathered Chicken pointed its wing forward: "Choose."
Chen Nan was taken aback. He turned around and saw four identical cave entrances ahead, showing no indication of any difference.
Earlier there were two, now there were four; would there be eight next, even sixteen?
Chen Nan felt this Cold Spring Cave was unbelievably tricky. If among these paths, only one was a way out and the rest were all dead ends, then the chance of successfully reaching the end would be too slim!
"Damn it, are they really trying to kill Grandpa Chicken!" Black Feathered Chicken cursed vehemently.
Chen Nan hesitated for a moment then walked toward the one farthest on the left. As soon as he reached the entrance, the Golden Phoenix Wing Mace hidden in his Sea of Consciousness suddenly rushed out uncontrollably, floating in the air, pointing toward the second cave on the left.
Chen Nan was dumbfounded; did the Phoenix Wing Mace have its own consciousness?
He quickly grasped the handle, trying to communicate with it using Divine Sense, but no matter what he said, the Phoenix Wing Mace gave no response, only pulling him toward the second entrance.
Chen Nan tightly held the handle, glanced at Black Feathered Chicken and his silly brother, and signaled them to follow.
Since walking was too slow, Chen Nan summoned the Divine Ship again, flying forward rapidly under the guidance of the Phoenix Wing Mace. This time he was not in as much of a hurry as before, so he controlled his flight path better, avoiding the ship's sides colliding with the cave walls.
The tunnel's upward trajectory continued; inside the tunnel, it was unclear how far they flew before emerging above the water surface.
The waterway in the tunnel remained clear, and theoretically, the water surface at this point should match the Cold Pond Shore's height, but these details were irrelevant to Chen Nan at the moment.
Soon after, Chen Nan saw the exit ahead.
Outside the exit awaited eight cave entrances, seven of which were dead ends, with only one being the right path.
The Phoenix Wing Mace pointed to the third path from the left, and Chen Nan maneuvered the ship into it.
He was curious about the mysterious capabilities of this Phoenix Wing Mace; how could it discern the fortunes within the Cold Spring Cave?
Could it be that there was some connection between the Phoenix Wing Mace and the Cold Spring Cave?
Chen Nan had always thought that the Phoenix Wing Mace was just a superbly handy weapon. It was incredibly heavy and though it didn't have the power of the God Beating Whip, it was extremely resilient, impervious to any weapon.
Now, thinking back, Chen Nan realized the Phoenix Wing Mace was far from as simple as he'd imagined.
After all, it came with the eighteen forms of the Tang Technique, and the mightiest move was even stronger than the Chaotic First Form!
When they reached the next exit, they encountered sixteen entrances.
Beyond that were thirty-two, sixty-four, and finally, an astonishing one hundred twenty-eight entrances.
Evidently, traversing the Cold Spring Cave and finding the only safe path amidst these was exceedingly difficult. Fortunately, with the Golden Phoenix Wing Mace in hand, Chen Nan easily navigated the correct path and reached the final exit.
