The King of Urban Mercenaries

Chapter 1029: The Attitude of Mo Country's Leadership

Lin Fei's words, "I don't accept the title," immediately stunned everyone present, and the atmosphere in the room froze. Afterwards, all eyes turned to Song An with disbelief.

"This..."

Colonel Song Jiang couldn't make sense of the situation at all. In his view, his mission to promote Lin Fei to Admiral seemed like such a major opportunity that no one would refuse. However, before he left, he met a General who warned him that Lin Fei was a difficult person and advised him to handle the situation cautiously.

At this point, Colonel Song Jiang seemed to understand the deeper meaning of those words: a general's rank, an entry pass to the upper echelons of Mo Country, and yet Lin Fei didn't want it? And he rejected it outright? What was going on? Was there something wrong with Lin Fei, or did he have compelling reasons? Song Jiang really wanted to know.

Lin Fei's words obviously shocked Mu Shanshan and her father Mu Hong as well. The title of Admiral is the goal of every soldier, one that many would do anything to achieve. Yet, Lin Fei, with the rank of Admiral within his grasp, refused it. None of them could understand Lin Fei's thinking.

"Admiral Lin Fei, do you have some unavoidable reasons?" Song Jiang asked.

Lin Fei picked up the tea on the table, took a sip, and said, "No, there's no reason, I just don't want to accept it. Go and tell your superiors yourself."

The others didn't know Lin Fei's thoughts, and his words left Song Jiang at a loss, taken completely off guard. In the end, Song Jiang had no choice but to temporarily take his leave of Lin Fei, go outside to the courtyard, and make a call to consult with the higher-ups.

Inside the room, Mu Shanshan and Mu Hong did not ask Lin Fei the reason. Since Lin Fei had made a decision, there must be a reason for it, so they respected his decision, even though it was indeed a shame to refuse.

Only Lin Fei knew his reasons for refusal, the first being that Mo Country's upper echelons were too chaotic, and he didn't want to get involved. He wasn't good at intrigue, so he was reluctant to deal with such matters. Another issue was that the Mo Country high-level officials hadn't given him a satisfactory answer. Even though the situation with Xiao Hu was because of Wu Yufeng, the Mo Country leadership still owed him an apology!

Therefore, until these issues were resolved, Lin Fei would absolutely not accept the title of Admiral. To him, it was just a shackle; if it meant losing his freedom, he would rather not have it.

Before long, Song Jiang returned from outside and said, "Admiral Lin Fei, I just spoke with the higher-ups. They asked if you have any requests that you can make, and if the problems aren't significant, they can accommodate them."

Song Jiang appeared calm when he said this, but his heart was in tumult. He couldn't imagine that Mo Country's leadership would go to such lengths for one person, willing to elevate him to the nation's admiral and even let him make requests. This was unprecedented. Song Jiang couldn't see what made Lin Fei so exceptional, but he was more convinced that the leadership's decision wouldn't be wrong.

"So, the higher-ups don't have anything else to say to me? If not, just leave, I have no time to dilly-dally with you." Lin Fei said. He suspected that Mo Country's higher-ups might know something, or they wouldn't be so enthusiastic. If that was the case, they should also know what he needed.

However, Lin Fei was more concerned about who knew his situation. Otherwise, was it possible that someone planted an informant around him? If this was the case, then it made sense.

After hearing what Lin Fei said, Song Jiang couldn't understand Lin Fei even more. It seemed to him that Lin Fei was being too demanding. Nevertheless, even though he thought this way, he dared not express it. Mo Country's leadership treated Lin Fei this way. If Lin Fei claimed it was because of him, causing his rejection, he could only smile and cry.

"Admiral Lin Fei, please wait a moment. I'll go ask." Song Jiang dared not offend Lin Fei, so he quickly left the villa to communicate outside.

Inside, Mu Shanshan and Mu Hong exchanged a shocked glance, filled with disbelief as they looked at Lin Fei. They too couldn't understand Lin Fei. Until now, they realized they had never really seen through Lin Fei, because they didn't know him from the beginning, not his history or past.

It was only now that Mu Shanshan realized that the man she lived under the same roof with, whom she could also call her husband, was so mysterious that she couldn't see who he really was. Even Mo Country's leadership bowed; it was unbelievable.

Just then, Song Jiang returned, and with a stunned expression, he spoke, "Admiral Lin Fei, a certain Commander asked me to pass on a message. He personally apologizes to you and asks that you accept the rank of Admiral."

As Song Jiang relayed this message, his voice trembled. He couldn't believe that a Commander would apologize to Lin Fei; it was inconceivable. It was something Song Jiang had never dared dream of before as he wasn't even qualified to meet someone at a Commander's level. Thus, to Song Jiang, Lin Fei was remarkable, turning the impossible into possible.

Lin Fei frowned. A certain Commander, apologizing personally? He thought for a moment; this Commander certainly wasn't Wu Yufeng's grandfather, and he didn't know any other Commanders.

"It seems Mo Country's higher-ups are indeed very complicated. Even before joining, someone is trying to win me over, and Mo Country's leadership isn't as peaceful as I thought."

This turbulent water, Lin Fei decided to stay out of it for now. He said, "Song Jiang, you can relay my demands."

Song Jiang was startled and immediately focused, intensifying his attention. "Admiral Lin Fei, please go ahead."

With a serious expression, Lin Fei said, "For me to accept Mo Country's Council's promotion, they must comply with two conditions: first, I accept the rank of Admiral, but the Council cannot interfere with my freedom; second, even if I accept the promotion, I can refuse any orders from the Council!"

Upon hearing Lin Fei's demands, Song Jiang was completely dumbfounded, as were Mu Shanshan and Mu Hong. Lin Fei's two demands were too excessive.

Not to mention the part about not following orders, why would the Council need him then? What's more, not interfering with his freedom equates to a perfect pass, yet the Mo Country Council wouldn't be permitted to command Lin Fei to do anything. Would the Mo Country Council agree to such demands?
