The King of Urban Mercenaries

Chapter 1040: All the Big Players Are Watching

"I won't let you die. Besides, even if I let you die, your sis is also the kind who fears death and clings to life. You better make it happen right now: get that piece of wasteland on the west side of Zhonghai approved for me, and I want all the paperwork complete," Lin Fei said.

"The wasteland on the west side of Zhonghai?!" Wang Hu found it somewhat difficult. He'd heard before that in the bustling city of Zhonghai, every inch of land is precious. Many eyes are on that piece of land, but nobody can seem to claim it. The relationships involved are terribly complex!

"What's up? Don't tell me you can't do it," Lin Fei said in a cold voice.

Wang Hu immediately replied, "Don't worry, Admiral, I'll make the calls. Please wait for a moment." With that, Wang Hu hurried out of the room and began making arrangements over the phone.

Inside the room, Brother Hai and Chen Kang were full of admiration for Lin Fei. Lin Fei is just too impressive! The wasteland west of Zhonghai is the toughest nut to crack, yet the business opportunities there are greatest. Although it seems like just a barren land ordinarily, it's a treasure trove in the eyes of many. Alas, many have tried and failed to seize it.

If you can imagine, if Lin Fei took that wasteland, Zhonghai would be rocked. The west would definitely become a prosperous area.

It would become the second center of Zhonghai, and very likely turn into Lin Fei's gold mine. Therefore, Brother Hai and Chen Kang were thinking they must fawn over Lin Fei well, hoping to get close to him.

Lin Fei resolved the matter and returned to the sofa to watch cartoons with Keke.

Outside the house, Wang Hu was sweating bullets, occasionally shouting angrily. The nurse nearby was so intimidated by his furious demeanor that she didn't dare to approach him.

At this moment, Lin Fei walked out of the house and said, "Wang Hu, keep it down. Go outside to make calls, you're interrupting my daughter's cartoon time."

Wang Hu quickly nodded and bowed while leaving to make calls outside.

After making a dozen or so calls, Wang Hu reached out to every influential figure in Zhonghai he could think of, only to find out that control over that wasteland was due to a single word from a central figure.

And that person is said to be a Major General-ranked individual who once said he wanted a piece of land in Zhonghai, subsequently choosing that area in the west, which ended up being shelved and became a wasteland.

However, Wang Hu knew that in recent years, severe crackdowns were common. The tigers caught were often as good as dead. Those high-ranking officials with lax discipline were living cautiously, and that Major General likely saw the business opportunities there but didn't dare act, thus intervening and turning the land into private property, making it impossible to develop.

Understanding the reason, Wang Hu stepped back into the room towards Lin Fei. A Major General-ranked officer was beyond the reach of him, a prosecutor. Even his superiors would have to handle it carefully, lest they face overwhelming consequences.

"Why are you back? Did you get it done?" Lin Fei asked.

Wang Hu showed a difficult expression and said, "Admiral, this matter may require you to step in personally."

"What do you mean?" Lin Fei asked.

Wang Hu relayed the whole situation to Lin Fei, including the matter of the Major General. Lin Fei nodded understandingly, pulled out his phone, and dialed Song Jiang's number.

Song Jiang listened to the news, his brow furrowed. He was merely a Major General, while a Major General outranks him; he couldn't handle this matter.

Lin Fei sensed the matter was even tougher, so he directly instructed Song Jiang to report it to the higher-ups to resolve it quickly.

Song Jiang felt speechless; did Lin Fei really think the Mo Country's higher-ups were his task force? Nonetheless, Song Jiang bit the bullet, made the call, and awaited the outcome.

Fifteen minutes later, Lin Fei answered Song Jiang's call. Song Jiang sounded shocked, "General, the matter is resolved. High command says your report was meritorious; that Major General indeed engaged in bribery and corruption, so high command decided to confiscate all properties and allocate them to the state. In recognition of your contribution, they directly granted you that piece of land."

"…"

Isn't this too arrogant…

Lin Fei felt he was indeed crazy. Moreover, he sensed a subtle sense of crisis: the Mo Country's high command was so indulgent with him, there must be some hidden agenda—and he had to be cautious.

"Forget it, not thinking about it. Song Jiang, when will the paperwork be approved? I need it urgently; best if it's finished today." Lin Fei said, deciding to boast a bit to Mu Shanshan once home—she might end up in his room, who knows, haha.

Thinking about this, Lin Fei couldn't help but chuckle, seeming rather sly to those beside him.

However, what shocked them more was that Lin Fei managed to settle the matter with just one call; it was bewildering. It gave them insight into the distinction between officials and civilians.

"Admiral, one hour later, someone will deliver the papers to you, everything is approved. You can handle that piece of land as you like, but don't go too far," Song Jiang advised.

Lin Fei laughed, "Too far? I'm taking that land to contribute to the nation's development. I won't harm the country; rest assured."

"Understood. Since Admiral has no other arrangements, I'll hang up first."

"Go ahead."

Upon hearing Lin Fei's words, Song Jiang hesitated. Why did it feel so ominous? He didn't have time to overthink; the documents required swift handling, so he hung up the call.

An hour later, three police riot vans arrived downstairs, personally delivering a stack of documents to Lin Fei and promptly leaving.

Lin Fei looked over the stack of documents containing all the licenses and many other materials and permits. With this stack, he could build an airport on that land without interference.

"Alright, Wang Hu, your involvement ends here. In future, don't say I was your instructor, manage yourself well. Your path depends on you—I won't intervene," Lin Fei said.

Upon hearing Lin Fei was no longer going to interfere, Wang Hu felt as if he ascended to heaven, happiness overwhelming him as a heavy burden was lifted. Wang Hu respectfully bade farewell to Lin Fei, disappearing into the hospital.

"Alright, I'm heading back now. You two can catch up slowly. If you need my help in the future, just call me. I've given you my number, Chen Kang," Lin Fei said.

Both thanked him hurriedly, even Brother Hai tried to get out of bed to see Lin Fei off, but Lin Fei stopped him, worried that Brother Hai's ailment might resurface.
