Mystic Overlord: Reading Gives Strength

Chapter 823: Epilogue

The battle had come to this point.

The outcome was already beyond doubt.

Yet, under the influence of extremely intense emotions, the remaining three summoned creatures on Ronald's side, who had been preparing to attack, fearlessly launched their assault.

The attack methods of two of them,

were somewhat similar to that of the unfortunate lizard that had met a tragic end earlier.

They spent time accumulating power within their bodies and then spewed an unknown but surely offensive liquid toward Ronald from their mouths.

As for the last one, it bore some resemblance to the leader of the summoned creatures.

After this period of preparation, this summoned creature, resembling a swamp monster in appearance, revealed a dried-out state on its surface.

Despite lacking the physical prowess of a close-combat warrior,

it maintained this bizarre and abnormal posture as it lunged directly at Ronald.

...

For such a desperate fight to the death,

Ronald's response was quite simple.

With his empty left hand, he activated the power of the [Archangel] to manipulate objects, first deflecting the two streams of liquid rushing at him; then, facing the swamp monster that was now before him, he raised his right hand and brought down the saintly relic in his grip.

Snap—

The pitch-black saintly sword claimed another defeated opponent.

After the usual act of slicing his enemy in half, Ronald understood the purpose behind the enemy's bodily transformation.

Severed by Saint Catherine's sword, this summoned creature was actually filled with a large amount of liquid that instantly sprayed out upon death.

Conversely, the creature's dry skin rapidly absorbed moisture from its surroundings as everything unfolded.

As for Ronald, who was close by,

he immediately felt the air he breathed grow exceedingly dry while the white light from the [Guardian Angel] enveloping him shone fully.

The essence of this summoned creature's ability,

was its powerful water absorption capacity, draining moisture from everything around it.

—In all fairness,

—a very dangerous enemy.

If Ronald hadn't employed a magical defense or allowed this creature to get on him,

this moisture-draining ability would have certainly put Ronald in a perilous situation.

Unfortunately, Ronald was not careless, as his mastery of various spells had prepared him for all situations.

Thus, this summoned creature's final desperate strike,

was ultimately just a futile effort against the defense of the [Guardian Angel].

"Humans, do not think today's battle signifies your victory!"

"My brethren will come to this world."

"And then take everything from you!"

At that moment,

the leader of the summoned creatures, transformed into a metal golem, finally recovered the strength drained by the [Power of the Sun] earlier.

Yet it also saw a battle that had completely lost hope.

So it roared, using itself as a shield to protect the remaining two summoned creatures, and, like its subordinates, charged fearlessly toward Ronald!

"Mai, Suo Ling!"

"Go back and tell everyone about the information we gathered, what happened here!"

Bam—

The leader of the summoned creatures undoubtedly intended to sacrifice itself to buy its companions some time.

So, as it shouted this command,

Ronald leaped into the air, landing right before its roared face and kicked it.

The massive body of the metal golem,

was once again sent flying like a cannonball.

It crashed even deeper into the cave wall than before!

This time, Ronald had used his full strength.

Though the leader of the summoned creatures did not lose its life instantly from this strike, it could no longer maintain its will.

The enormous metal golem-like body lost control, rapidly shrinking like a deflating balloon, returning to its original size within seconds.

Yet, at that very moment,

after Ronald cleared away the obstacles blocking his view, the positions where the two summoned creatures had stood were now just fading traces of spell light.

They had succeeded.

Under the condition of their leader sacrificing itself, the two companions under its protection seized this final opportunity to successfully dissolve their summoning contract and escape.

Even though Ronald could completely overpower his opponents in battle,

facing such a decisive retreat left him with little recourse.

Swoosh—

Simultaneously, Audrey finished off her last enemy.

With Ronald clearing out his side of the battlefield,

the Inspector nun also completed her combat objective.

Unlike the composed and collected Ronald,

after confirming the aftermath and scanning her surroundings, Audrey let out a sigh of relief and found herself unable to maintain an upright posture, plopping down on the ground.

"Audrey, are you alright?"

Seeing the nun's reaction, Ronald immediately went over to check her condition.

Fortunately, Audrey had no life-threatening injuries,

or more accurately, she had already healed all the injuries she sustained during the battle through her own skills.

The reason she sat down all of a sudden,

was simply because the battle had exhausted much of her energy and spirit, leaving her unable to remain standing when she finally relaxed.

"..."

Looking at Ronald checking her body with concern,

Audrey didn't pay it much mind, and casually said,

"Ronald, you've become much stronger than when you were in Berenwich."

"When I first heard the news from the church, I thought it was just rumors because something had gone wrong on your side."

"Haven't you also become much stronger?" Ronald replied with a wry smile at Audrey's attitude, his tone carrying a hint of apology, "I feel bad; I let four of them get away."

Audrey showed no intention of blaming Ronald,

"The result is still quite good."

"You know, the order I received to go here was actually just to investigate the possible presence of summoned creatures."

"I detected the sounds of battle beneath the ice and hurried down here because of it..."

As Audrey shared with Ronald her reasons for coming here,

while recovering her strength, her gaze involuntarily shifted to the sword in Ronald's hand,

"Is this... the Saint Catherine's sword?"

Ronald nodded and then generously placed the saintly relic before Audrey.

"Take a look at it first, I'll go retrieve those four over there."

After giving a simple instruction,

Ronald turned and walked towards another side of the cave.

While rescuing the four human casters he had earlier pulled into the crevice for protection, Ronald's gaze drifted to the unconscious leader of the summoned creatures.

"You'll be the one I'll rely on for interrogation later..."
