6 months after Norman's death
Once again, the monster went out of control, and the testing chamber descended into chaos. Amelia sighed as she saw the same problem repeat itself, but she couldn't just stand by and watch.
She teleported a spear into her hand and dashed forward to strike the creature. She easily cut through its many tentacles, but the beast kept regenerating.
Without a doubt, that part of the research was working far too well. The enemies were getting stronger, faster, and their regeneration was even better.
"At least it's good training," Amelia muttered with a sigh, spinning the spear in her hand as she sliced through more tentacles.
Fighting only with physical attacks like that, it would take an eternity to wear the creature down completely. But having to deal with her brother's complaints later would be even more irritating. That was why she avoided using a massively destructive strike.
She kept swinging her spear, and when the monster seemed exhausted enough, she teleported out of the cell, being back at the research lab.
One of the assistant scientists pressed a button, releasing a sedative, and the beast quickly collapsed inside the chamber.
Meanwhile, Amelia appeared in the main research hall, where Wein and Ange were tangled up in a mess of equipment and papers.
"It didn't work again," Ange said with regret, though her eyes sparkled with curiosity. "But this fight gave me some ideas."
"What do you mean it didn't work? My creation lasted ten minutes against that beastly woman!" Wein puffed out his chest with pride.
"Who are you calling a beastly woman?" Amelia's voice echoed fiercely through the room, making every muscle in the former professor's body tremble.
"It wasn't like that at all; you heard wrong," he began to explain quickly, his heart pounding. He knew all too well how frightening his sister could be.
He also knew that despite the freedom he had to conduct his research, his situation was still very delicate after everything he had done.
"Stop focusing so much on making stronger monsters, you useless brother!" the woman shouted.
"I'm sorry," he bowed until his head was touching the ground. "But I'm really giving my all on all fronts and in every possible way."
"That's the problem!" Amelia snapped. "Just focus on getting the monsters under control! We don't need a weapon we can't control!"
While that exchange was happening, Ange was writing ideas on a piece of paper. She had a smile from ear to ear as she thought of new modifications they could make.
She was primarily responsible for helping Wein develop artificial combat monsters with regenerative capabilities. He had already managed to create one a long time ago, the one Davi faced, but Amelia wanted an army of monsters that could fight alongside humanity when the seal was broken.
The big problem was that it was very difficult to maintain control over those beasts.
And the other problem the research was facing was…
"Look," Ange approached Amelia with an innocent expression, then showed her the drawings she had made. "I thought about adding a new composition so the monster can secrete acid. Also, I thought about..."
As always, Ange wanted to add more and more things to the project, making it increasingly complex. Normally her ideas were good, and she worked harder than everyone else, but the lab researchers were already going crazy with her.
Every day, Ange found new ways to increase the amount of work. Without Davi around, her lack of focus was becoming an uncontrollable problem.
Luckily, these problems would soon end.
After hearing that the project was struggling, Amelia offered to help personally. This also allowed her to leave Morrigan in charge of boring administrative matters.
In recent days, Amelia had been doing guard duty. Whenever a monster got out of control, she would attack it with weak attacks, until they could put it to sleep.
The first time, she had completely destroyed the monster with one blow, but her brother complained so much afterward that she never did it again.
Truth be told, if she did that every time, the research would never get anywhere, as they would need to constantly restart from scratch.
Anyway, besides standing guard, which allowed them to conduct tests without worrying about safety, she was also there to organize the project and ensure it got off the ground. More specifically, she was there to keep Ange under control.
"Ange," she began, her tone sounding like the screams of demons.
"Yes..." the little scientist felt her whole body tremble. Without even realizing it, she was already on her knees.
"Focus!" Amelia shouted. "From today onward, you are forbidden from adding anything new to the project."
"But..." Ange tried to protest.
"Until you can create monsters that stay under control, don't focus on anything else, okay?" she warned.
"You're very tyrannical..." Ange complained in an almost inaudible tone. But before she dared to say anything else, Amelia's gaze convinced her. So, she sighed and began to think about her next steps. As much as she didn't like being unable to add anything new, she understood that the research really needed to move forward quickly.
"And one more thing," Amelia snapped her fingers, causing all the papers scattered around the room to fly into perfect stacks. "Organize this place better. You won't be able to work efficiently this way."
Truth be told, Amelia didn't worry much about the mess. She herself wasn't an organized person, but Davi had told her to make sure Ange organized herself. The ideal would be to simply let Davi himself command the project, but the boy was already very busy with his training.
"You're talking about organization, sister?" Wein, showing rare courage, commented with an ironic tone. But he quickly fell silent after the hateful look his sister gave him.
"You're right," she smiled eerily. "Since I'm not good at organizing things, that job will be yours."
"Organize everything, brother," she ordered in an imposing tone.
