Beast Taming: Slaughter Atlas

Chapter 305: Crushing the Soul-devouring Beetle

Seeing the undead army half-cleared, Chu Chen couldn't help but sigh in relief.

However, his expression quickly became serious. The gray mist continued to spread, and the number of undead was rapidly replenishing, adding more than a thousand in just a few breaths.

Aside from Nirvana, the remaining three Guardian Beasts were heavily drained, and it was difficult to unleash large-scale skills again in a short period.

Even though Feng Shuang had the talent of reversal, it could only restore sixty percent of its star power, and it would take at least another minute to unleash the Furious Blizzard again.

Chu Chen quickly retrieved some Star Power Pills from the Spatial Ring and tossed them to the three Guardian Beasts.

"Cage, Feng Shuang, take the elixir pills and recover quickly; Nirvana and Shadow Kill, head up and hold them off."

Upon hearing this, Nirvana and Shadow Kill rushed forward immediately.

Cage grew anxious at the sight; its physical strength was tremendous, excelling in close combat, but it had overexerted its star power just now, leaving its body somewhat weak.

Seeing the anxious Cage, Chu Chen stepped forward, patted its body, and said, "First refine the medicinal power to recover quickly, and observe how they are fighting."

Cage let out an unwilling low growl upon hearing him.

Chu Chen ignored Cage and focused his attention on Lei Yao.

At this time, the other jaw of the Soul-devouring Beetle had been shattered by Lei Yao, and it resembled a tiger without teeth, hardly posing a threat to Lei Yao.

Moreover, it had expended most of its star power summoning the undead army and could now only rely on physical combat. Even the incredibly durable insect armor was under immense strain.

Cracks ran all over the insect armor, and dark green blood kept seeping out. Without other means, it would soon meet its end.

Having gained the upper hand, Lei Yao did not let up in the slightest, its attacks growing increasingly fierce.

The Soul-devouring Beetle sensed the threat of death, raised its head high, and roared in anger, causing the undead army to erupt into chaos.

Unbothered by attacks from Nirvana and Shadow Kill, they only charged unrelentingly toward the position of the Soul-devouring Beetle.

Even with the strength of the two beasts, they couldn't completely fend them off, so they had to retreat while fighting, soon finding themselves near Chu Chen.

At this moment, Cage abruptly opened its eyes, its snake-like eyes glinting with a chilling light.

Twisting its body, it charged straight into the undead army, its massive form thrashing wildly, sending undead creatures flying in all directions, temporarily halting their charge.

Seeing this, Chu Chen remained grave because the number of undead had not significantly decreased, and there seemed to be more and more of them.

Chu Chen sighed and turned his gaze to Feng Shuang.

It was perched on Chu Chen's shoulder, eyes shut tight, brow furrowed, clearly focused on refining the medicine power.

At this moment, a group of Daoist Soldiers also entered the mist-shrouded area.

A young man, looking at the dense horde of undead, nervously said, "Captain, there must be at least ten thousand of them."

The bearded brawny man nodded solemnly and said, "Let's fly over them from above and find that guy called Chu Chen first."

The undead army paid them no mind and continued their charge forward.

"Captain, why aren't these undead attacking us? As far as I know, the undead lack reason and attack all living beings."

The bearded man furrowed his brows and, after pondering, said in a deep voice, "There is only one reason for this circumstance, and that's because the Soul-devouring Beetle is facing a life-or-death crisis. We must hurry."

"How could this be? How could one person hold off an undead army of this magnitude?"

"Who knows? Let's hope he can hold on, or else we'll be in trouble," he said, urging his Guardian Beast to rush forward at extreme speed.

Moments later, they saw Nirvana and other beasts holding off the undead army and breathed a sigh of relief.

The bearded man came in front of Chu Chen, clasped his hands, and said, "I am Captain Wang of the Secret Realm Guard Squad."

Chu Chen clasped his hands and replied, "Hello, Captain Wang. I am Chu Chen."

"We mustn't delay. I'll lead you out of here immediately."

Chu Chen shook his head and said, "I'm afraid that's not possible."

"Why not?"

Chu Chen replied solemnly, "The Soul-devouring Beetle is at its end. If we leave now, it will surely gather the undead army to kill us, and we will all die."

Upon hearing this, Wang Cheng's expression changed. After a moment of silence, he said, "The Soul-devouring Beetle cannot be killed. The Daoist School placed it here to obtain its Beast Taming Egg, and if we kill it, it will be hard to account for that."

Chu Chen coldly responded, "Account for what? Our lives are at stake. Don't forget that the headmaster is my teacher. You don't need to worry about the accounting."

Hearing this, Wang Cheng just nodded; he showed no surprise, it was clear his earlier words were meant to place all responsibility upon Chu Chen.

Chu Chen did not find this annoying, instead watching him with interest.

He never imagined that someone with such a rugged appearance could be so calculative.

Wang Cheng, feeling awkward under Chu Chen's gaze, gave an embarrassed smile and said, "Please understand, I had no choice."

Chu Chen waved it off and said, "Alright, but when holding off the undead army, don't slack, otherwise…"

Chu Chen didn't spell it out, but with Wang Cheng's wits, he understood what Chu Chen meant.

Wang Cheng hastily nodded and immediately commanded his subordinates to join the battle.

Seeing this, Chu Chen nodded in satisfaction. With Wang Cheng and his group's addition, the undead army wouldn't advance easily for a while.

Chu Chen calmly made his way toward Lei Yao's battlefield.

By now, the Soul-devouring Beetle was heavily wounded, its dark green blood soaking the ground, its domain withdrawn.

Chu Chen raised his hand and sent a transparent Soul Spike flying straight toward the Soul-devouring Beetle's head.

The Soul-devouring Beetle sensed the danger and tried to dodge, but the Soul Spike wasn't a conventional attack; it pierced the insect armor and directly entered the Soul-devouring Beetle's Soul Sea.

"Roar"

The Soul-devouring Beetle let out a painful roar, blood gushing from its mouth and nose, its body trembling, losing most of its combat power.

Lei Yao flashed to the beetle's side, its shoulder sinking as its legs burst with Giant Power, charging at the Soul-devouring Beetle.

"Boom"

With a muffled sound, Lei Yao crashed against the side of the Soul-devouring Beetle, flipping its mountain-like body with tremendous power.

In a panic, the Soul-devouring Beetle flailed its insect legs, trying to use the barbs at their ends to flip itself over.

Lei Yao wouldn't let it have its way, letting out a low growl as it leaped onto the beetle's belly, its right leg stomping down, embedding it into the ground.

Raising its right arm, dense thunder and blood elements rapidly gathered toward it.

Its already strong right arm swelled larger, entwined by the Thunder Dragon and Blood Python.

"Roar"

Lei Yao let out another low growl, its right fist punching hard at the beetle's belly.

Feeling the essence of death, the Soul-devouring Beetle let out a mournful cry, opening its jaws wide, releasing a slime-coated orb.

As Lei Yao's fist landed, a loud "boom" resounded, and the beetle's belly exploded instantly.

Before it could even scream, it lost all signs of life.
