Chapter 35: Assassinating the King and Killing the Emperor

Inside another villa for final contestants.

Sallet was extremely wary, completely disregarding decorum before the king, as tomorrow was the day to change fate. If there was an assassin among the maids, it would all be for naught.

But the organizers would not compromise either. The final agreement was that he could keep his mask on, and only the female supervisor would attend to him personally, limited to one person.

If someone wanted to kill him, Sallet was always watching, ready to defend himself.

Because it was a full-body cleaning in the hot spring, it was impossible not to react. There were some small incidents, but those were inevitable. Even if the flag was raised, Ghost Eye Mad Blade, with his paranoia, would still be staring intently with the eyes beneath his iron mask.

This made the supervisor speechless.

During the bath, she kept reminding Sallet of the precautions, but Sallet was not responsive, not saying a single word from start to finish.

It was the Royal City Army outside, casually reading the newspaper.

"Damn it!"

The Royal City Army, seeing the content of the newspaper, couldn't help but curse.

The reason more soldiers were guarding Kai Deng and Sallet than the other contestants was due to a previous private fight they had. It wasn't just a simple scuffle; the two indeed intended to kill each other.

In terms of their combat strength, everything in the room at that time was chopped into pieces, clearly not within the scope of a brawl, but rather an attempted murder.

These Royal City soldiers, curious about the reason, thought they had gotten familiar over the days and asked, but the two would not express any thoughts, leaving the soldiers to guess blindly.

It all makes sense now!

The epic showdown, Thief Guild versus Heaven Port.

The adventurer's guild revealed that today two whistleblowers came to the guild, and for their protection, their identities were processed anonymously.

Both stories involved the Overlord Descendant, but they provided two different versions of the tale! One of the stories is false.

The first story.

It's a soul-stirring love story of course, Sallet, to escape Liszt's pursuit, brought the Overlord Descendant to Aran, risking his life to participate in the martial arts competition, only seeking a place to settle.

The second story.

It's even more of a damn soul-stirring love story.

The chivalrous Kai Deng of the Thief Guild, to rob the rich and help the poor, boldly stole treasures that Liszt had seized from countless impoverished folks in the Heaven Port Mansion, aiming to destroy his evil ambitions of ruling the East Sea.

He discovered Liszt's incredible secret that he was imprisoning the legendary Overlord Descendant.

The two fell in love at first sight and developed feelings for each other, embarking on a forbidden romance.

Just as he was planning to rescue her, he encountered the notorious rogue of seven years ago, the mass murderer Ghost Eye Mad Saber Sallet.

This man roamed free, slaughtering innocents in the East Sea, plundering treasures. After Doringger's death, he immediately betrayed him, proving disloyal, and joined forces with Liszt to guard the Overlord Descendant.

Sallet had many allies, together with countless infamous criminals and pirates, intending to kill Kai Deng.

Kai Deng, outnumbered, had no choice but to leave a promise to return and take his beloved away.

So he participated in the Continent Martial Arts Competition, hoping to gain a position and lead the Aran Heavenly Army to Heaven Port to rescue his love!

Liszt realized the plan was exposed and immediately sent Sallet to the competition to intercept Kai Deng.

"What an ultimate cliché love triangle!"

Even the Royal City Army captain was dumbfounded after reading the newspaper.

These two versions of the story were both placed in the trivia section. The adventurer's guild had already covered themselves, only aiming for traffic, without guaranteeing authenticity, so don't look for me if anything happens.

Everyone knew the guild's newspaper loved to exaggerate, so the key was not in these brainless romance stories, but in the four words: Overlord Descendant!

It was simply too impactful!

That was a legend from ancient times, the only legitimate ruler of the Sides ancestors, the true King of the Western Continent!

Both stories were extremely unlikely, or they wouldn't have been called trivia, but when compared, it was clear the latter had a higher degree of credibility; Diaz played a higher hand.

Sallet was inherently evil, a top wanted criminal, as a supposedly loyal boyfriend fleeing with the female lead, even not forcefully seducing women on the streets suggested he was in a good mood.

In the Continent Martial Arts Competition, he was known for killing with two blades, leaving no survivors, extremely ruthless, loved decapitating heads, hurling them thirty meters away, with blood spurting like a fountain, and you tell me this guy is a pure love warrior.

So they say good looks are a long-term advantage.

Kai Deng was no good either, often leaving no survivors in the competition, but people chose to believe him, as good looks equate to justice.

Sallet looked like a damn ghost.

The Thief Guild had already set the script for Kai Deng, recruiting him into the Royal Court, allowing him to command troops under that name to attack Liszt. Liszt had stolen a Dragon and made trouble in Mulong, and had even robbed the train, and the Alan Royal Court had long been displeased with him.

Timely! Advantages of location! And harmony!

What could Liszt use against Diaz? This borrowing knife to kill not only let Liszt drink a cup, but fed him to the full.

The Royal City Army captain was extremely shocked. Though knowing the adventurer's guild newspaper likely published fake news, riding the trend, but the four words, Overlord Descendant, were too powerful.

Just as the man of the event was bathing in the room, it was unbearable, and after knocking on the door, he entered the bathroom directly with the newspaper.

"What are you doing here?"

The female supervisor was startled, in the middle of deep cleaning Sallet.

But in Aran, the military police and special forces were no match for him, the rank of the Royal City Army captain was far higher than hers, he completely ignored her.

"Don't come any closer!"

Sallet said coldly, full of vigilance, seeing everyone as potential thief assassins.

The Royal City Army captain knew Sallet was paranoid and simply rolled the newspaper and threw it over, which Sallet caught steadily.

"Is it true?"

The Royal City Army captain's curiosity reached its peak. Their work was inherently boring, with hardly anyone daring to cause trouble under the Emperor's feet in the Aran Imperial City. Such an event made their gossiping soul soar.

Sallet looked at the newspaper, eyes as deep and dark as water.

After a long pause, realizing this was Diaz dealing with Liszt.

No doubt, both were worried about many variables tomorrow, so both tried to strike preemptively.

Both taking the first step meant neither did.

But in any case, it had already pushed Liszt himself into the limelight, even if only rumors, Sallet and Kai Deng, the protagonists of the stories, would face trials tomorrow, along with the authenticity of the Overlord Descendant.

"Shit..."

Even Sallet couldn't help but curse, as there was still a major event tomorrow, the Pope would be on-site, and that doctor would bring the gift the Pope intended to present at the competition.

Liszt had already become one of the main characters outside of the competition arena.

Too many fierce goods, tomorrow's direction still uncertain, the ultimate Rashomon.

Inside another villa for final contestants.

After bathing, Gedre also looked at the newspaper, feeling slightly relieved. It was best to have these distractions.

He glanced at the pillow beside him, where he had hidden the Curse Poison given by the Witch King beneath, which must be carried from dawn tomorrow, bypassing all checks.

The flames of hatred.

Ignited…

All the resounding firewood.

Crackling.

The next day.

September 9th, the annual Stargazing Festival, 8 AM.

A clear sky, bright and cloudless.

The Church's exclusive train had entered the central north of Aran, the whistle of steam and engine sounds resounding in the ears, reaching the Imperial City would be a matter of the evening.

The shutters cut the sunlight outside, casting striped shadows inside the carriage.

Making everyone's faces appear extremely fierce.

"Two more stops, and I won't be able to accompany you, after this, you will be on a direct ride to the Imperial City."

"Okay."

Mika suddenly opened his eyes.
